Kayak trolling motor wiring, explained on new remote
This is an updated video of my trolling motor that I did for my kayak on the wiring for the forward and reverse switch. I’ve modified it from being the controller head now to a handheld 3-D printed mount that I got the file from thingaverse I did have to do a little bit of modification on the file for my controller a little to fit better with my wiring here is the link to the file it is free for anyone to download that would like to 3-D print it themselves. www.thingiverse.com/thing:6068827
The creator of the file and all credit due to making a 3-D print is Johnny abell / ace548 Hope you like the video give me a thumbs up if you do if you would like a 3-D print, I plan to set up an Etsy shop soon and will link in future video to help the people who do not want to buy a 3-D printer but want the parts

Where can I buy this mount?

Posted the link in message for you. It’s actually on sale right now on Amazon for the exact same one I used.
@ ok thanks
Why not just paddle?
@@user-ri8fn6sz7z because I have money to blow on fun projects and allows me to have more energy for I can fish longer and get to my fishing spots faster
@@christoffchefful less exercise though. But I totally get it! Great set up for a calm lake for sure!
@@user-ri8fn6sz7z I have enough exercise at work lol when I’m out fishing I would like to relax and enjoy myself😊
@@christoffchefful I hear ya! Great modification! Keep on keepin' on!

Hey there bigfishman this is a genius idea so I bought one for my 1222. Looks like its been a year since the update video. Is it still holding up??
No good. I have the exact same mount I tried. I was out in Bitter Lake SD in white caps and my unit fell off in the front.. luckily the power adapter and ducer cable held the unit. The design isn’t made to withstand impact of big waves. Do not try this if you fish windy conditions.
I’ve had enough for a year has given me any problems. I don’t let it stay up I lay it down working perfectly fine for me sad to hear that happen to you maybe you had the monitor mounted too high and didn’t lower it went flying through the water
@@christoffchefful I had it stowed in the front. The mount just isnt made to handle multiple rough waves. I’ll probably try and mcguyver something up soon here now that i got another trip to ND.
Thank you sir, appreciate u posting this, is sure is of great help..
Do i have to remove the fan?
Yes
What lb thrust and how fast does it go
Cant turn left but i can turn right 3 times.
The trolling motor is rotated by my feet petals. The throttle control head just mounts beside me
Mix color powder chameleon?
What is that rigid rope called?
Don’t remember you can get them at Walmart
How about rusting?
It has been on my boat for over a year. There’s a little bit of surface rust on two pins for the pivot arm but nowhere else for me that nothing to be worried about it’s I don’t even cover my boat.when it rains I only have a cover on my center consul and a cover just just big enough for the monitor This gets wet all the time.
weird flex but ok
Sir i need multi colour kindly guide me
What rod holder is this? I’m wanting the link so I can do this?
a.co/d/4KuSHQz Here you go you should check out my new set up short video
What lights are you using?
I don’t know the brand name but if you go to Academy, they have them there in the Boating section the blue ones are 36 inch long the front two red and green LED light strips. You can buy them on Amazon just type in kayak light strips.
I just bought a mount like that. However it won’t fold down. It springs up even after I tried to adjust it. Did you have this problem with yours?
Yes my mount does spring up by itself. I got a Velcro strap to keep it down when I’m driving the boat
@@christoffchefful yeah it’s like it needs more weight but I think it would take like 30 lbs just to pull it back down. I may try to find one that supports less weight.
It will rust however.
bro thank you i been looking at diy on this mount and your way is cheaper and much more easy
I have a 6 mouth review still working great
very cool
Awesome freeking! Love yeah bro
Knowing there is only one motor on the left, how does it work? Will the kayak go straight? Ty
The trolling motors on the back of the kayak that’s just the head of the trolling motor mounted on the side in a separate location so I can operate the speed so it does go straight
How you guna turn left bud
It’s called foot pedal steering dummy lol. Look at my trolling motor. You’ll see the wires coming off it they run through the body of my kayak to my foot pedals, allowing me to steer the trolling motor left or right. You can also check out an older video of a previous trolling motor I had it mounted before.
Nice, way more affordable than the Stowaway mount.
My son has this on his game system and I saw it and told him I got to get one for my 1222 and wondered if it would work and now I know it does.👍
How did you extend the wire going to the motor shaft?
When I remove the head, I cut off 5 inches of the tube then I spliced into the wires using the trailer wire pigtail with heat shrink wire connections
@@christoffchefful and what about the other end to the propellor? My 30 lb endura has no extra wire whatsoever, where do you buy the trailer connections from?
th-cam.com/video/OhLpr98CFWI/w-d-xo.html
You can go to any auto store and get the male and female trailer wire the trolling motor I remove the head, and now you have wires that go from the and you will be left with the trolling motor propeller shaft, and the wires coming out of the shaft from there. I tied onto it with the trailer wires there’s only four and I used it as a quick, connect harness and from the remote I wired the opposite end of the trailer wire harness.
@@christoffchefful is the 18-20 gauge wire of the trailer 4 way not too light of wire for a circuit breaker??
So did the Trailer hitch Wire connection melt yet? I used mine out two trips lucky I didn’t fry everything. Those type of “quick connections” are not reliable.
Nope running strong i’ve made multiple trips taking my kayak out about every other week have not had a single problem
@@christoffchefful well shoot what are the type your using???
@@matruthn.m.bassinGanGanG go to a trailer supply and ask for there thicker 14gauge wire for the trailer lights
@@christoffchefful Heard🫡 Thanks Brother
What about the mounting bracket? Where did you get it?
The mounting brackets, the same one that comes with a trolling motor. All I did was cut off the side that has the bolts that tighten down to the transom made it straight and mounted it to a steel plate and drilled holes in a steel plate to mount up with the mounting holes on the back of my kayak I’ll make a short video. You can check my stream later to see it.
I got angle from Lowes a scrap 2x4 to make a small frame.. and a couple bolts and 2 yak-attack rails... the head I did the exact same thing.. (first time seeing someone else do it too... ) makes a good arm rest. I dont have foot pegs for steering... instead a dowel tiller arm runs up the right side... (simular to sailboat haulout rudder arm)
I think you solved a $1000 problem with a smarter $200 solution. This is a great idea. Stuff like this is what makes TH-cam great. Keep up the good content.
Need to go more in deep this is by far the best setup I have seen. Can you send me the parts you used. 😊
Evaporator
Y como giras a la derecha?
I don’t read Spanish write it in English
What battery are you using for the lights and trolling motor?
This is a crazy setup! Love how you did it. I'm trying to figure out a way to do this on my kayak. You should make a full video of how you did everything
I will do a walk around video if you want I just changed the controller for the trolling motor
Is that just a normal trailer plug that you get there
Yes
If it’s not attached to the propeller itself ?
I don’t understand your question it’s not attached to the body and the motor the head is separated, but I have a harness wire that I wire together. That way I can remove the head and place it in a more convenient location
@@christoffchefful can you show how you did this?
How does it control the motor???
th-cam.com/users/shortsy6Yx7UmDc_4?feature=share
Do you have a full video on how you did this?
Sorry I did not do a how to video
great video. I just ordered a monitor mount for mine also. how has the arm held up being in the weather and all? i am concerned the gas will leak out and wont hold.
As of right now, mine is holding up great
@@christoffchefful good deal, Thank you
I actually plan to do an update video today because it’s been six months
Update is up
Is the base, where it mounts to the boat large enough for four screws or is it just the single screw shown in your video?
So the bottom plate can actually put four anchor screws into it. The single screw that screws in the middle can hold it down, but I didn’t trust it but there is four holes that you can secure the mount down.
@@christoffchefful thank you! This is a brilliant idea!
Damn. That's a sweet result
What about the cables?
The cables run throw the mount body
Pretty cool, u made a diy foot steering system too I see ?
Sorry, this comment is late never got the notification. The Boneafide kayaks foot pedal rest are already built with push steering for the kayak that could be added on with a kit. I did not want to buy the kit so I did para cord and mounted 2 eyebolts with a 1 inch clamp on my trolling motor and ran the lines through the kayak to the feet pedal
Nice. Did you include the link for the mount? I don't see it from my phone.
