The problem is, the surviving family members of the dead robber can sue the person who shot him. But the cops won't tell you that. They'd rather you take the heat and the repercussions for killing someone than doing their jobs.

I'm a retired LEO from GA. So im speaking from an insider's perspective. There's a huge difference between a Chief and a Sheriff, a chief is appointed by a mayor of a city, so the chief is answerable to the mayor's office. A Sheriff is an elected position, which means that like any orher politician, the Sheriff is answerable only to the citizens of the county. In GA, the Office of the Sheriff (official term) stands equal to, but is separate from the rest of the county government, which means that no one in the county can tell the Sheriff what to do or where they can or cannot be. Along with the fact that the county is not allowed to refuse the Sheriff's budget. And that every deputy and civilian "works at the pleasure of the Sheriff". Which translate to the Sheriff can hire and fire anyone for amy or no reason. That way if anyone or any group wanted to get "their people" hired to try and undermine the Sheriff, they can be let go. If there was only the Office of the Sheriff in every county in every state, it wouldn't be without some problems, but it would be a lot better than what we've seen. So defund the police if you want, the smart thing to do is for the state government to pull all charters giving the cities authority to have a police department, and letting the Sheriff hire them. That way, if the mayor wants LE to stand down and let riots happen, the Sheriff ca say fuck that shit, deputies go get them. And there's nothing the mayor can do about it.

And if any folks break into the people's house in DC this election year, same rules should apply...Hilarious...

California resident here.... I fully agree with this and it should be the law of the land everywhere. Unfortunately CA is the last state that would ever implement this, if ever.... I believe in CA we are expected to actually retreat first ON OUR OWN PROPERTY if someone is trying to hurt us. Total bullshit. And if you shoot the intruder in the back or anywhere else that shows he was retreating, you're screwed. Way to protect the criminals.
