Hiking and Exploring Middagshornet in Norway-Sunnmøre at 1091meters with a DJI Avata 2
Wondering if i should do content like this, show the traveling and the hiking. Not just the flying, are you interested in that?
If people like it ill bring a better camera as this was just a old insta360 on a stick.
About the flight. There was so much wind I did not even try to do any interesting lines or flying. I was even afraid I had to land in the valley and get it on the way down.
So this is just me looking around the area. I hope you find the view as exceptional as I do.

Finding the Avata 2 to be a nice addition to my standard backpack. But it has some flaws that are starting to annoy me, especially at high speed big flying. Let me know if i should do a low key review of the thing for this kinda use. blog.haakony.no/my-gear/ DJI Avata 2 #norway #fpv #mountainsurfing music: I find all my music on Atrlist.io please use my affiliate artlist.io/Haakon-950466

I have been out flying with the Avata 2, I did not expect much I just wanted the goggles3 ability to share the flight to my spotter. But.. Well this thing is great. If you understand the limitations you can just toss it in the back pack with a super small footprint, and be up and flying within 2 minutes. This thing will replace my Chimera5, unless gopro or someone else comes up with some insane...

I hope you're all doing good, flying fpv or dreaming about flying :) I feel like I'm always flying with frozen fingers, but I guess this is the cost of living here. Love the fall though. Lovely work man! What do the regulations look like for FPV in Norway? I was trying to find a drone map of Norway displaying all no fly zones but can't find one?
Thank you :) Heh yea its up to some debate at the moment because its too complicated. The regulation is mostly the same as EU but we have some exceptions, like the 120 m rule is a bit more forgiving in the mountains. And there is a recreations flying club that has exceptions for FPV specific if your not flying commercially. luftfartstilsynet.no/en/ has most of what you need and www.safetofly.no/ has where you can fly, the main problems are airports under "Forbudsområder" and "Verneområder" the problem here is you need to check the specific area if there are rules for flying in that national park, they call it a motor vehicle.... And the ninox app can show if there are other flight restrictions in your area, like no flyzone because of military drills or princess weddings...
Thank you for your video. I just crashed my old chimera 7 and need an arm and the head of the drone. Are the carbon plates the same on both drones?
I am sorry to hear that, did it at least make a good video ? :) The parts are not compatible. Arms are different and the new camera is larger so no.
@@MountainSurfer thanks for the quick answer. What about the Chimera7 ECO?
Sorry but I don't know, I haven't seen the eco in person. Looks like its a adapted form of the pro.
Nice footage 😊
Thank you :)
Great drone footage. Just posted a film from the same mountain 😊 Nice hike up to the top there. Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend 😊

Wow, so beautiful!
Love the view 👍
As someone that has been there i can say that it is 100% amazing like this video showed
Nice shots. I believe Avata was not made for high speed big flying, so no surprises there.
Thank you, indeed but one can hope ^^
Fantastic filming and flying especially on the mountain ridges and cliffs, although at the end I was waiting for you to go underneath the small gangplank leading to the floating platform. 👏👏👏

love it how you just chill in a shirt of the top of the snowy mountain flying fpv, nice vibes 😎
It was a nice day 🙂
Your drones are getting smaler and smaler... but the crash would have been a lot more unpleasant with a big old 7inch :D. How does the avata fly compared to a custom drone?
Hehe yea I dont want any bodypart even close to the 7inch, it will cut to the bone ^^ On manual it flies just fine, there are some odd behavior here and there. But mostly it's just nitpicking. It has it's character when flying but I never felt I was missing much, it feels light compared to my other li-ion setup with gopro. And the battery lasts a while. With custom you can pick whatever you want so you get whatever properties you want ofc. If that is 0.5inch more props then yea, you have alittle more thrust. But it's fine. You don't buy this if that is what you want. This is made for anyone to fly, and on normal mode its like flying with training wheels on. Great for exploring. And the 04 camera and system is great. I hope we get that soon for custom stuff.
Så fint! Norge 👍👍
Nice flight, glad we have longer days now! Happy to hear the drone survived, pretty cool that DJI reached out in the comments.
Thanks 🙂 Yea, and almost 20c temperatures 👌 indeed 😁
@@MountainSurfer I know, up here as well. April is always nice here, taste of summer, but then by mid-May we often get cold & wet again.

Hi there. Sorry to learn about the crash. Could you please confirm the condition of your DJI Avata 2 after the incident? Feel free to reach out at any time for any assistance needed. We're here to help.
The drone is fine, there was no damage👍 Thank you for your consern 😊
@@MountainSurfer Thank you for confirming. If in case you need further assistance, please let us know. We're here to help.
Beautiful and very well done sir. Do you have any recommendations for a 32 bit esc for a 20by20mm m2 mount for a Flywoo Explorer LR 4 V2 frame I'm building, I'm going to be using the matek h743 mini flight controller and Flywoo Dave-C-FPV 1404 2750kv motors
Thank you. It has been a while since I built anything myself now, the prebuilt are cheaper and I don't have any good reason to build my own anymore. I can recommend the iFlight parts though they have a good QC.
Good flow keep it up. I need me some mountains.
Watching those videos, you really start to feel the absolute beauty of nature, man! It hits you deep, you know? Mother Nature's a total stunner! Props for the sick content - keep shredding those skies!✌
Hell yeah, these tips are pure gold, and I'm grateful for you dropping knowledge bombs! A few of these nuggets were already bouncing around in my brain (thanks to binge-watching those epic long-range vids), but your MVP move is stressing the need for a chill approach on arrival - speed in moderation (paired, of course, with a battery packed with as many mAh as humanly possible). Super clutch advice, my dude! Major props, and I'm itching to clock in a flight that stretches into the 25-minute territory. Compare that to the constant six-minute nail-biter with the DJI FPV - no more stressing about the ticking clock! :)
Norway is like dropping the mic on beauty-it's that stunning! Honestly, it's high up on my bucket list, but it's gotta wait its turn because Iceland is stealing the spotlight first. We're plotting a visit there within the next year, and then Norway, you're next in line for our adventure. Your country is not just a feast for the eyes with all that natural beauty but also seems to have a vibe and mindset that's just as captivating. Big thanks for this video and all the other gems you've crafted with obvious love and passion! Keep 'em coming!
Hey there, your videos are pure fire! Seriously, the nature shots are blowing my mind. Just wanted to drop a line and say I've got the Chimera 7 on the way, and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for it. The excitement is real, man! Your vids are like therapy for my impatience. Keep rocking those epic shots!
Thank you :) The Chimera 7 is a good choice, it's great for transversing large areas :)
Absolutely, man! Your videos are the real deal - love the vibes. I've been rocking the DJI FPV for a while, but to snag those epic mountaintop shots, I practically had to be on a first-name basis with the summit, you feel me? 😅 The upside? Got the whole fam into hiking - even the wife and kiddo are hooked now! 🏔 But guess what's about to hit the scene? The Chimera 7! Taking that bad boy to the mountains for sure. Your footage keeps me stoked, dude. Major props! Can't wait for more killer content. Keep crushing it, my friend!@@MountainSurfer
@@Wild__FPV Yea i do know^^. That dji fpv drone is too restricted to do the things you want. It's great to combine FPV with hiking, I do it all the time :) I usually bring a chimera 5 if its not just a short trip, but I do drag the 7 with me if needed :) I hope you have great experience, and I hope you dont stop hiking :)
Oh yeah, the DJI FPV definitely has its quirks. Good for newbies, but gotta give credit where it's due. Chimera 5 and 7 are like the dynamic duo of the drone world - killer combo. Thinking about snagging another drone myself. Why Chimera 5, though? What's the secret sauce? Spill the beans on its comparative advantages, mate! As for hiking, ain't no chance I'm hanging up my boots as long as that drone's buzzing around. The other day, my kid's all, "When are we hitting the trails?" I hit her with the "Waiting on the drone" line, and she fires back with, "Skip the flying; I can't wait that long to hike!" :))) Hook, line, and sinker. She's as addicted as I am. But, you know, without the drone, it's like hiking without the view - just not the same thrill! Quick thing on the down-low - flew the DJI FPV mostly in ACRO mode, but I'd switch to Normal for landing. Now, with Chimera 7 on deck, any word on landing it in Normal mode? Can you flick that mode switch mid-air? Got me a bit on edge here.@@MountainSurfer
@@Wild__FPV Hehe. Well the C5 is a light weight drone designed for long range, both the advantage and the dissadvantage is the low weight. I can put a full gopro on it but it handles like a brick. If i fly with a naked gopro its good for cruising at low speeds. The C7 is a lot more stable in the air and handles wind a lot better, something that is critical in some of these mountains. It allso has alot more speed and can cruize comfortable in 120km/h. But the carry weight is almost a kilo pr battery and the packsize is huge with all the gear. The C5 i can carry along with a small ELRS remote and in a small backpack with no problem. About the modes. It's not really comparable the normal mode on DJI FPV and normal FPV drones. You can swith between them in air yes. There are Acro(rate), Horizon and Angle. But I havent used them for many years, Horizon is good for when you need to just hover and idle but I dont trust them. Airmode is the only thing i toggle manually exept from GPS return. Airmode makes the motors idle at low rpm so you still have control when you have no trust, so you can navigate in a dive. But it makes the landing gittery or jumpy so many toggle this manually. When landing i just usually just dissarm 3cm from the ground.
Super nice! Thanks man!
Absolutely stunning!!
Would you mind sharing the town or approximate location so I can view a map? Thanks for your efforts.

Fabulous scenery and flying, another great video!
Thank you :)
Beautiful scenery, it's a shame that whatever camera you are using here can't do it justice. The image looks oversharpenend and has terrible dynamic range.
It's a gopro 11 mini, with a ND8 on. They say the 12 has more range. But these lighting conditions are hard on anything. Had to throw away 3 other flights due to eider overexposed or underexposed. You can eider see the ground or the sky, and the snow makes it all shiny. Sometimes I'm tempted to just put it on auto and just send it.

Fantastisk! Which valley is that? I always try to guess but while it reminds me of some of the peaks around Sæbø, I don't think that's it.
This is Norangdal close to Øye, the peak is Smørskredtinden, did a video of the valley here. :) th-cam.com/video/VwzG0TBoBH8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cM3BfaR1UIaaOj49
do you think flat copper desoldering wick is good for connecting cells?
Electrical ? Sure, but as it is not designed to carry current you might want to test how much it can carry. But I think it would be difficult to solder it on. You can't just force it with a lot of solder and heat because it will damage the cells. And you need to insolate it so it dont short on anything. It's just no reason not to just use some proper wire, or magnesium strip if you have a spot-welder. Spot welder is great because it dosent introduce large amounts of heat to the battery.
Great view!
Astonishing. The view are so awesome. 😍
you have turned to the dark side of Drones i see 😂. But to be honest sometimes i wished to have one of those flying tripods with me. Very nice shots as usual 👌.
Thank you 😂 No, but 249g is so easy to just toss in the bag while hiking. Getting close to a tiny fpv setup now though 😁
true, carrying a 7" quad, it's heavy battery packs + accessories does not leave much space in the backpack. :D
