It's snow, not ash. There are no alternate dimensions. Alessa was a hero, not a villain.
We're going to break down the entirety of SH1 to find the questions worth asking.
My growing frustrations with the continued direction of the series is directly tethered to the misunderstandings of the foundations of the Silent Hill story and adherence to the film's version and the wild fan theories that, while fun, are not found within the actual games themselves.

These games showed me that horror game plots don't have to be shallow narratives that only serve to justify gameplay. And video game stories in general no longer had any excuse for being sub par after this came out.
I absolutely enjoyed this video about our beloved game silent hill 1 im a member on the gamingmuse channel im a big fan of the silent hill universe and have been playing the series since it first came out in 1999. I was only 11 wen I first played silent hill 1 and it was a game that changed my life forever for the better. You have done a fantastic job here. Your voice sounded very relaxing and made it sound and feel like you were Harry talking to us all about the journey into the haunted town. Cheers and thankyou so much xo
what song plays at the very beginning?

Well done sir. There are many retrospectives, many opinions, and many long form videos that just repeat the story without delving into the emotions and feeling of Silent Hill. It’s refreshing to listen well researched and heartfelt analysis of this amazing game.
RIP Cybill
That repetitive music is distracting. It drowns out the narration.
Which part?
@@themidnightsnowfrom start to finish. Is there a way to reduce the volume of the music so that your voice is louder. It seems the music is the same volume as your voice and it takes away from what you’re saying. But that’s just me. Other than that it’s a great vid.
Oh a Silent Hill analysis! don't mind if I do! I feel like most discourse about the fog world and the nightmare world is just splitting hairs. Reality was altered, and ultimately how permanent the effects of Alessa's powers were on it is completely discretional. Whether we call it a localized alternate reality, reality being out of phase or superimposed by the nightmare, it's really just semantics at the end. I really like how you presented Alessa's defiance towards her circumstances, always fighting back and not giving up. It just aligns so well with the characterization her "reborn self" is given on 3.
Full love . Nothing more than full love for the game. This was beautiful. And i thank you for this video. The was beyond anything else made on this game. If only people making movies and games with the silent hill title, would give half the love to their projects, you gave this video.
I love this series and I'm delighted the algorithm recommended your video. Fully enjoyed this whole thing, and I'm subscribing and look forward to more! Excellent work on your analysis.
I finished Silent Hill 2 Remake 2024 . I absolutely loved the game and I am devouring lore videos after finishing it. SPOILER I didn't know Mary's body was in James car at the beginning the whole time! I got the "leave" ending after 30 hours of gameplay. I am craving more Silent Hill already but to my dismay there aren't any games ready to be binged. The only one I could find on PC is Slent Hill 4. I'm gonna have to get an emulator for the older ones. I expected there to be more Silent Hill playability for such a household name. Currently watching "the midnight snow"'s youtube series about Silent Hill. If bloober had any common sense they'd be remaking Silent Hill 1 and 3 right now instead of making their own stinkers.
back to beg for more of these analysis videos please
I assume Alessa started the fire as part of stopping the ritual and splitting her soul. She was more than willing to suffer to stop the cult. Great video 👍
But where did Eddie get that pizza?
Find out in the NEXT episode! :D
102 Silent Hill Redditors disliked this video. This was such an AMAZING experience. Congratulations, hope you'll make more videos like this in the future!
"Do you know a girl called Alessa?" "..." "..." "No..." Slowly turns to the camera, winks at it and exits the room whistling.
I hope you continue with this kind of breakdown of each game. And maybe even the movies
Sound like a broken record but goddamn! Yet another small channel delivering a banger, a Silent Hill video no less! Keep up the fantastic work mate!
Excellent video; looking forward to hearing your breakdowns on the rest of the series , or however far you decide to go with it; I've always had a special love for the original Silent Hill, I watched my Uncle and his friend play through it when I was ten when it came out, and than played it myself a couple years later. It's amazing the details my mind filled in on those old PS1 graphics.
I think the sirens represent the last thing Alessa heard before she descended into hell. The sirens of the firetrucks that is. When you hear them, it’s the last thing you hear before you get sent to Alessa’s hell. Didn’t really think about it until I watched the video… Great vid btw!
This was such a good video omg, I’ll be following you on twitch and on here from now on keep up the amazing content man!!
Hey Glitchy, Etzio here! Glad to see your video getting blessed by the algorithm. Can't wait for part 2!
This makes me identify with Alessa so much more. As someone who was raised by an abusive mother and saved by my wonderful father, really brings me some closire tbh. As someone who's loved this series after discovering it through SH4, i love listening to these videos that go so much deeper into the story.
Side note: it's not a 'toxic worm' it's the larva form of the moth boss.
Sh1 the town was corrupted because of alessa as she is a witch and so bringing her darkness into reality because of her powers.the town itself never had that power to do these things on its own untill silent hill 2 where the town just acted on its own which was odd.makes me wonder if the the town is secretly being corrupted by a new witch that we have yet to seen to explain why the town still has mysticals phenomenons with other protagonist
It's hard finding content as good as this, can't wait for the videos on the other games ^^
also T_T feelings from the story
I know it's probably been said thousands of times now but this game was like a kind of cosmic accident but just so happened to create one of the most amazing franchises in all of gaming, and maybe even all of media. I've watched a documentary on the making and all of the things that just went wrong but in the best way really built this game in a way that I don't think could happen today
That’s why I think “lighting in a bottle” is the only way to describe it. You can’t even reliably figure out the intention of the developers, they all had different ideas and plans that mush-mashed into the final product. How they came out so well is at least attestable to the writing, but other than that it’s all just a series of happy coincidences and group effort that made something timelessly special.
Holy hell, or would have never known you were a new youtuber. This video is doo well written and edited. Well be watching your career with great interest
Thank you, thank you. I hope the SH2 video holds up to it. It’s been many years of study and practice to make a video like this one.
@themidnightsnow ill be looking forward to it. Trying to beat the Remake and original side by side right now
@@captainfach Haha, same!
This is a fantastic video essay! I recently finished playing SH3 and I unfortunately didn't realize that the story was practically a direct continuation of SH1 (Went into the game a little /too/ blind lol) so I'm a little bummed that I missed out on a world of context. I'm less incentivized to go back to play SH1, but your analysis and attention to detail was great, it honestly pieced together a lot of questions I had about the lore of Silent Hill as a whole. Subscribed and very much looking forward to your future media analysis content :)
25:30 I see what you did there 😂
23:50 Marking my time as suggested, and also happy to add the engagement to the video.
1:40:34 I may have an explanation. In the show Courage the Cowardly Dog, the setting is a single house in a barren wasteland. A theory for why this is may be is because Courages owners were too old to walk him, so he was never able to explore beyond his front yard. Courage couldn't comprehend reality past his own surroundings. To link this with Silent Hill, perhaps Alessa never left Silent Hill before the fire. She wouldn't have any comprehension beyond what she had seen in her town and being in an abusive household with a mother who wants wants her all to herself, alessa probably never had the opportunity to venture beyond her means. A perfect prison.
