Catatan 10 November 2024, Hari Pahlawan. Hari Jihad Para Syuhada. Rakyat Indonesia dan Rakyat Malaya, beda mensikapi peristiwa kedatangan NICA. Pada bulan September-Oktober 1945, terdapat perbedaan signifikan dalam respon masyarakat Malaya dan Indonesia terhadap kedatangan Sekutu dan NICA (Netherlands Indies Civil Administration). Di Malaya, masyarakat umumnya menerima kehadiran Sekutu, khususnya pasukan Inggris, yang dianggap sebagai pembebas dari pendudukan Jepang. Pasukan Inggris kembali berusaha mengembalikan tatanan kolonial, namun masyarakat Malaya lebih berfokus pada pemulihan ekonomi dan sosial pasca pendudukan. Meski ada ketegangan politik antara kelompok komunis dan nasionalis, tidak terjadi perlawanan signifikan terhadap kedatangan Sekutu di wilayah Malaya. Sementara itu, di Indonesia, situasinya sangat berbeda. Masyarakat Indonesia baru saja memproklamirkan kemerdekaan pada 17 Agustus 1945, sehingga kedatangan pasukan Sekutu yang membawa NICA dipandang sebagai ancaman langsung terhadap kemerdekaan yang baru diperoleh. Masyarakat Indonesia melihat langkah ini sebagai upaya Belanda untuk kembali menjajah Indonesia. Hal ini memicu perlawanan besar-besaran, terutama di kalangan pemuda, yang memanfaatkan momentum ini untuk mempertahankan kemerdekaan dengan berbagai aksi heroik. Aksi perlawanan meluas di berbagai kota, termasuk Jakarta, Bandung, dan Surabaya. Di Surabaya, perlawanan mencapai puncaknya dalam Pertempuran Surabaya yang terjadi pada 10 November 1945, pasca tertembaknya Pemimpin Pasukan NICA Inggris Brigadir Jenderal Mallaby, 30 Oktober 1945, ketika ribuan pemuda Indonesia bertempur dengan gigih melawan pasukan Sekutu yang berusaha merebut kendali kota. Pertempuran ini dikenang sebagai salah satu perjuangan paling heroik dalam sejarah Indonesia, karena semangat pantang menyerah dari para pejuang Indonesia meskipun menghadapi pasukan yang lebih kuat dan lebih terlatih. Karena keberanian dan pengorbanan besar yang dilakukan oleh para pahlawan di Surabaya, 10 November ditetapkan sebagai Hari Pahlawan di Indonesia. Hari ini diperingati setiap tahun sebagai penghormatan kepada mereka yang gugur demi mempertahankan kemerdekaan dan sebagai pengingat akan semangat juang yang tak pernah padam untuk menjaga kedaulatan bangsa.
