Love how a customer showed you something you didn't know the machine could do. That kind of thing has been my experience, too. Customers are a great source of innovation for the products they use.

Hello Adrienne, you are correct about the shortage of skilled operators, but it’s an issue that has been around for a very long time. Way back when the AFC-566F was launched I took a prospect to see a demonstration of the folder at a local installation. The bindery manager told me before seeing the folder that they would not be buying the Horizon because he did not trust automation and secondly that they had a highly skilled operator who could set up their fully manual folders in “just a few of minutes”. They brought with them 3 of their typical jobs, A4 to DL, 8-page A4 and a gate fold to A4. The bindery manager wanted to run the parallel folds first, as that is how he would do it, but we chose to run them in the above order. Part way through the demonstration our customer came in and asked if he could interrupt us as he had an urgent job to fold for a customer who was waiting in the shop. We stored the current job in the money, let him run his 500 sheets, called the job out of memory and went on with the demo. When we finished the demo the bindery manager turned to his directors and asked when the Horizon folder was being installed. The MD replied that he had not made up his mind yet, plus he wanted to negotiate the price. The bindery manager told him that he did not care what it cost, as whatever the price was the saving in set up time would pay for it. He pointed out that with this level of automation he could train any of his other staff to run it. The folder was installed, the first piece of Horizon equipment this customer had ever bought, and over the following years they bought a StitchLiner 5500, BQ-270, BQ-470, and a StitchLiner Mark III.

To take the Open Gatefold a step further and make it a Closed Gatefold - can that be done with existing programs or does it require some "tweaking" of the templates and additional pieces. My old Stahl folders needed a gatefold plate. Thanks for the demo. Great work! We love our Horizon equipment!!!

Sry but when you say days, you are way off. Manual setups only take 15 minutes by an experienced operator.
