Just found your channel and I am behind anyone willing to have a go at saving these retro computers and also producing a video to demonstrate that you have at least done some research. If there is no ULA, (Uncommitted Logic Array) and a Z80 present then there is no point in trying it. The ULA actually controls the Z80 and has priority over it. The ULA tells the CPU when it can run and when it can't. It *supplies* and stops the CPU's clock when the ULA needs to read from lower RAM to draw the picture. It is called RAM contention. But without the ULA, the Z80 can't run because of the missing clock (pin 6 of the Z80). It is a cheap dirty trick but that's how they kept the price down. The diagnostics can run without the ROM installed because the diagnostics you use overrides the onboard ROM and has cleverly written code not to use RAM at all to function. I am almost positive that the diagnostics card you are using is the Smart card (V1) from Retroleum.

Just an update: The machine is still working fine nearly 3 years later with the replacement suspension legs :)

I remember seeing these in the Amiga magazines back in the day and thinking they looked quite futuristic because of long wavy LED design. It would have looked so much better in black, I'm still mystified by the fixation people had with beige computer cases back then.

What a bad design, hoover used to be a decent brand but it's turned to crap :-( A frend bought a Beko machine, it lasted a month and failed to spin. I bought a bosch serie 7 last year and it's doing well.

stuck as a 1200 in a tower a mungrel migy

i had a A1200 amiga with the l box board with the i s a slots x3 populated with a voodo 3 sound blaster usb board in the l box tower all the cards screws line up in the case various hard drives over a gig space cd rom why no voodo3 ? the drivers are on the site along with other stuff i supose them cards are hard to get now ? u will get rtg gfx that emulate the amiga gfx card for a cristal clear workbench an the sblaster wil save the chipset working in sound players the usb u have to pirate the drivers because the only ones were sold with a usb board for the 1200 clock port he dont want u to have them for free i set it up in uae then put the drive into the tower infact the pc's uae is so good it was the end for the towerd amiga even with all that gear the pc uae was faster than the 68040 faster drives too i sold the lot to a guy in ireland now only pc emulation alot more convieenyent so my congrats to anybody keeping the real stuff going yes intell outside an all that cpu wars guff but not here they so cheap amiga would have done it if they still was here ! forget the power pc era what amigans have always wanted was a quad core intel exspanshion card cheap ! well i near as dam got it ! on a bindows 10 desktop nevermind yer gotec go uae just get over the pc hate thing think of it as a amiga with the chipset beloved denese paula ect as a emulated chips they all there all models a500 up all selectable with a key press reset or guru again key press i feel like a right trolling beepsterd pickin on you here im 57 just my exsperiance speeking i was the worst pc hater for years till that hardware became so pricey discoverd a ibm pc in a skip great later hey this old intel 8 mghrtz is a naff hmm 386 wow doom duke nukem 486 more love dos games wow amd faster cheaper i miss me ol amiga some wait try dis dos uneversal amiga emulator u a e wow like it there was no windows to bloat an fill the 2mb hard disk if u was brave thers windows 3.1 u didnt need it u know my hand was slowly forced to upgrade windows got biger but memory got cheaper then the acelorater gfx card came along the voodoo drivers still dos but usb a microsoft invention needed windows 95 a very stable windows memory was falling in price again then the browser wars more memory who cares its as cheap as chips you amiga owes its cheap memory stick to pc every thin else amiga was silly price well over an over the pc grew into a powerfull platform i fer 1 wont go back to old hardware lost count of mem's mghrtz ect im not forced to upgrase i choose to pc games are flexable in mardware specs i spent alot on my pc corsair obsidian water cooled monster 360 rad fans around 12 its low db runs forever dont break like it so much the better for winuae just nostalja i remember when a nascom was the kit computer to have google that nascom amiga forever bye bye
