I was recommended Salamander my first time skiing. Way too steep and narrow for a beginner. I did not really enjoy it 😕. I vastly prefer Liberty

So how did the fire in May 2014 affect the building structure? What kind of fire safety will be put in place? It took 2 days for the fire to be put out in “building B”. I live close and love to see this being fixed up!

Go Pro makes a pretty solid "cold weather" battery that seems to hold up well. I haven't had any issues with mine, but the first season using the regular Go Pro batteries I had a lot of issues with them freezing up after 20 mins or so. Glad you all had a bit more snow this time so you could hit more of the trees! Some good spots off Twister and now that they've had a good dump, Cherry Bowl Glades is the best there is!

Solid review! As someone who lives down south now, I still consider myself somewhat of a "local" here since I grew up in WV and learned to ski at Canaan when I was 8. Been coming up here for 30+ years now both in summer and fall/winter for hiking, photography, and skiing. Seen every iteration of Timberline and Canaan from their glory years in the 90s, to the decline when Wisp/Deep Creek blew up as the better vacation option for the DC families since they had all the stuff for kids to do, and then sadly further decline of the area during COVID...RIP Big Johns Family Fixins'. It's awesome to see Timberline's resurgence, I remember that lift collapse, was absolutely wild. Canaan is also a great mountain when they have trails open, which they do right now finally after about 2-3' of natural snow the last few weeks, they have their entire western side open with Dark Side of the Moon and some of the best glades and meadows out East. Unfortunately for the most part the state of WV completely neglects that place, never runs the snow guns, won't spend any money on it, etc. and it's honestly so sad to see how it's gone down since back in the day, used to be one of the top spots out east, now it's just a major hidden gem when they get the big snow dump. The new owners at Timberline tried to buy it from the state so they could fix it up, but WV doesn't want to part with it. Looks like you were there right before I made my 1st trip this year at New Years since it was still pretty bare. They got an absolute dump the last few weeks and it's fantastic skiing right now. Cherry Bowl Glades is an old double black through the trees that used to be on the trail map, but they took it off after someone died/got seriously injured on it, but you can still find it off Salamander/Off The Wall if you know how to get into it. Honesty I feel like the double blacks are pretty good, when I made my first trip out to Colorado/Utah, I spent a couple weekends up at Timberline skiing nothing but Off the Wall and The Drop and that had me more than ready to go when I got out west. Food at the lodge is pretty solid now, their beef stew is REALLY good so I'd suggest anyone heading there to check it out! Comparable pricing in lodging can be found at both Canaan and Blackwater Falls state parks, their lodges are both really nice, have all the amenities like pool and hot tub, and also some of the best food you'll find anywhere. The ribeye steak at Canaan Valley Resort dining room is some of the best steak I've had anywhere in the US. Mountain State brewing in Thomas is also a good spot for some pizza/pub food and great beer after a day on the slopes.

out of all the resorts ive been to this one is very laxed and owned by a small private resort out of southern Indiana called perfect north slopes , i wouldn't call it corporate at all, but you can tell money is definitely being invested in it though. which is what perfect north slopes has always done best at is its investment and improvements to the resort every single year
