เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 พ.ย. 2012
OWL Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society is a rehabilitation center specializing in bird of prey, rescue , rehabilitation, and release to the wild. We rescue more than 800 raptors each year from all over the province of British Columbia and beyond. We also run a education program to get people interested and caring about wildlife, and how to prevent injuries to animals and the reduce the impact on the environment.
Separating two Bald Eagles locked in an intraspecies fight
We received a call one morning about two Bald Eagles locked in a fight. On arrival we attempted to scare them apart, which usually does work, but not in this case. Neither would let go and continued to argue, so we had to pry apart each talon.
During the separation, we decided to try to release the less injured bird in case he had a nest nearby. He flew away awkwardly into the path of an unsuspecting scooterist, luckily both were uninjured and went on their ways.
The one who suffered an injury close to the eye was brought into care for over a week until he healed and made a successful release to the wild.

Osprey & Swainson’s Hawk rehabilitated and released to the wild!
มุมมอง 210ปีที่แล้ว
The juvenile Osprey was rescued near Lake Country, after it left the nest for his first flight and ended up stuck in a chain link fence. Osprey tend to be pretty awkward when on land as they are designed for flight and fishing, with excellent waterproofing to help them leave the water with nothing but beads of water on their back. Luckily, for this young Osprey he only suffered from superficial...

Baby Bald Eagle practices pouncing on a camera
มุมมอง 782 ปีที่แล้ว
What do baby bald eagles do while growing up at OWL? Well, they practice catching prey. Just like in the wild, young raptors will practice footing and biting at materials in the nest, leaves, or scraps of food to practice their skills. In this case it was a camera that was pounced on in a surprise attack. The culprit was carful to hide his coloured band so we couldn’t identify the attacker, and...

Once a bird has recovered from their injury, whether it be a broken wing or leg, lead poisoning, head trauma etc they get moved along the rehab process to larger enclosures until reaching the pre-release flight pens where they are tested for fitness, agility, and hunting ability. This tells us when they are ready to return to the wild. Time frames vary depending on the nature of their injury. S...

มุมมอง 1523 ปีที่แล้ว
This young Bald Eagle came into care after being found grounded in prickle bushes at the busy Vanier park in Vancouver. He came into rehabilitation around the time of the heat wave that many species of wildlife suffered through, leaving many young birds to jump from the nest prematurely. The bird spent time with a foster Eagle mom and foster siblings. This reduced stress, provides many lessons ...
Lead Poisoning in Raptors
มุมมอง 1553 ปีที่แล้ว
Lead poisoning affects all animals, including humans. Lead has been banned for use in toys, paint, and pipes due to the negative affect it has on global health. The use of lead to hunt waterfowl has been banned since the mid 90’s, yet the same dangerous material is still widely used for upland game birds, target shooting/vermin, and large game. The leading cause of lead poisoning in wildlife is...
Bald Eagles: Rescue, Rehab & Release after their nest broke apart
มุมมอง 3653 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is the rescue, rehab and release footage from one of the local nests that unfortunately broke apart this year. Local photographer AP Hovasse called us when he noticed the collapsed nest, and we were able to track them down with the help of a heat seeking camera, and our volunteer who cut away thick vegetation. The hawk was like silence owl I am trying to concentrate.
C'est magnifique. Merci ~ 🌿🦅
The hawk is yelling at the owl to shut up
Thank you.
Àwwwwww what a beautiful bird❤
That's such a funny noise the barred owl is making, like a cross between a pigeon cooing and a kookaburra cackling
It almost sounds like a monkey, it’s a more rare sound but we do hear them at it in the woods. It also lets out this cryptid wail, even more rare. I was out in the woods one night when it did that!
They don't get large. And this is nowhere near as loud as they can get. During mating season they catterwall sounfs like witches flying through the woods
They should not be in captivity, they are wild creatures not pets,
Read the description.
❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊❤️❤️❤️
I have a bunch of these owls near my house. I once heard an owl in the front yard and tried to imitate the sound. I got an instant reply by what sounded like three owls st the same time. Two were going "whoo whoo who who" while the last one sounded like a demented cackling maniac hooting and laughind at the same time. It sounded like they were a few feet overhead and not pleased at all. I ran inside quick because i wasnt sure what angry owls would do. Lol
It sounds like they’re mating
Awww 🌎🦋🐕🌲🦅🦉🩵 We need all of the magnificent raptors.. Bright eyes and strong voices. Thank you!
That owl has somethin' to say!!
I always call these the monkey owls lol. Love the hawk too <3
Senator Hawk may have a few good points, but I think Ambassador Owl is right.
Reminds me of the boss laugh in that old Kung-Fu Master video game.
A "Roadside Hawk"!? Really? Some taxonomy! Is it a young red tailed hawk? We're not all ornithologists ya know! The barred is great!
Tyler Mac I’m very glad

Monkey call so cute❤
The owl sounds like an old lady laughing 😂 it’s so cute ❤
Trying to work out what accent that owl has 🤔
The hawk sounds like a parrot lol. And the barred owl reminds me of summer nights back home in Iowa. 🥰
Jjjkkjsjeie
Like a dog!
Hooting barred owl a lot
Wow! Look at those talons, I wouldn't want to be the prey 🤭
Are they glad live in cage?
Texas?
Beautiful and talkative raptors
Fat wonder
That sound that hawk made so cute
This story is asking a lot. We are to believe they put eagals and other highly treasured birds down just because they dont have enough wing strength to make it in the wild. All after attempting to nurse them back to health? So they test to make sure they can pick up a avg sized gopher they get put down? Not to mention all the effort and cost that would have been put in but there are Falconers and Zoos who would take these birds maybe even be willing to buy them. My guess is there arnt many birds of prey getting shocked if any. Just a friendly observation and inference .
Good luck to the little guy👍
Named after two iconic Disney Princesses. How clever.
So glad people like you exist to help these beautiful birds.
At first eagle like nah... Then like o fuck yeah that yummy
Thry are such cool birds! Hope this one gets well and back to the wild soon 💚💚💚
Looks like he enjoyed the snackos :-)
Love the way it just takes in the big outdoors before flying away ♡
Thank you for this video - hard ti watch but so important to get the message out about lead poisoning.
This is such a well-researched and informative presentation that I'm going to ask you to improve it in very specific ways to increase the viewership and help viewers internalize and then externalize it by sharing it widely. The content is well-summarized and documented, and the logical flow of the information is excellent. 👍 1) The popup captions come up and down too quickly; also text is too small and transparent to easily read. 2) No sound till 1:15, then only intermittent sounds to demonstrate the respiratory problems discussed. 3) Please consider adding skilled narration to the entire video, and selected music to better curate the emotional response to the physical realities shown. 4) Be aware that some viewers may not be native English language speakers, and they may have both an interest in the topic and wish to use it for their own awareness campaigns, the recommend changes would help them and all viewers. Above all, however, *THANK YOU* for your organization's rescue and rehabilitation of these birds. Because your experience has incalculable value, the educational potential for this presentation must be maximized to further your incredible work. 🦅🦉🤕💚🩺💊💉
Thank you for this information. This needs to be shared and passed on to as many people as possible. Your work is very valuable ♡
Awesome work 🥰🙏❤️ thank you!
Wonderful work and beautiful birds♡
That call is awesome ☆
