    If you are wanting to shoot slugs it would be easier and more efficient to mold your own slugs you can use wheel weights, melting them down and pour them into a mold and make you slug. I will use about 36 grains of 4756 gunpowder behind it

    It’s kind of like the old Glazer Safety Slug. Good utilitarian improvisation. I always wondered if you can shoot those 12 gauge flares from a shotgun and if one could be used to start a fire. Like 40 yards away? Iraqveteran8888 had a good older video on cut shells. Not really common anymore but was probably used a lot in the Great Depression days. Thanks for taking us along!

  • @Pineboxperspective
    @Pineboxperspective 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Forgot to mention... if you have chokes in your shotgun, you should take them out before shooting cut shells. My Mossberg is a smooth bore, so I wasn't thinking about that.

    Unfortunately, Suunto does not have good quality control over its equipment... I recently purchased a Suunto Clipper SN from the DiveInn website and, after 48 days waiting for a shipment that never arrived, I was still charged the full value of the product in my country because of the absurd packaging, and the compass arrived with a manufacturing defect, with whitish assembly glue and jamming at certain times. Buy American products, avoid European products because there they take a lot of time with woke ideologies that don't even know how to glue a piece of plastic cleanly and do not remove defective products from quality control. Suunto, never again!

  • @quarto-h7i
    @quarto-h7i 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I strongly recommend that you no longer buy this type of Suunto product due to the poor quality control and disrespect for the end consumer. I was unable to contact or get a response regarding the defect from Suunto. I DO NOT RECOMMEND SUUNTO PRODUCTS DUE TO THE LACK OF END CONSUMER ASSISTANCE. It seems that the Swiss company Silva also has a similar product and should have better service. Could you please indicate which other companies, preferably American, have similar products so that I can purchase from those and throw away the Suunto one?

    FYI. Commented on new video on 12/19 and comment was deleted and no other ones either. You may have a problem to check into. I just found out because I had an afterthought I wanted to mention. An o-ring of the right size is the perfect thing to put around the "trigger" of a Bic lighter so fluid can't escape if depressed in a pocket or bag. Easy on, easy off. Stays on way better than a rubber band. Thanks.

    Good video and well thoughtout. If I may let me toss this out there. For a get home bag or a mission essential bag. I go with a very light weight sleeping kit. I use a piece of heavy plastic like painters use and lay it on the ground I lay my poncho over top of it and stake it down I put my sleeping mat in the middle of the two with my woobie in there as well. The plastic ground cover folds into into a small thing square. light and takes up little room. I throw my poncho in the bag and roll up my woobie inside my sleeping pad.My pack is about the same size as yours and it works well. Just food for thought.

    • @Pineboxperspective

    Good observation and improvisation! I like the “look around and make something work” attitude. I have Dave Canterbury’s forester’s blanket, which is basically a woobie with a head hole and some straps. He did a video on it. I agree completely with your assessment on bic lighters. I hate them. They leak, malfunction, work badly in windy conditions, don’t work in sub zero weather or high altitudes and run out of fluid. With a ferro rod you’re going to have a fire not matter the conditions. It could be in that kit for years and still work with NO maintenance. I don’t get the fascination with bic lighters. A ferro rod and some storm proof matches are way more reliable.

  • @scottnorvell2955

    Great kit for the situation you’re describing. I would suggest one change. A Swiss Army Knife with a corkscrew would allow you to add two tortoise gear fire starters to that tool. This provides for four more emergency fires.

    I haven’t picked one up yet but I like those SRO slim canteens and they are great for a condensed kit. One thing I would point out is that cup does allow you to boil additional water making a good survival tool if you’re stuck overnight. As long as you have a fire kit of course.

    For what it's worth: unless you keep track of any turns you make and how far each leg is a compass will not bring you back to where you left unless you walk a straight line in and out. If you walk in 100 feet at 360 degree (north) then went 100 feet 90 degrees (east). When you come back on your back bearing 180 degrees (south) you will be 100 feet east of where you started. Any compass is a valuable piece of kit and you should never be in the bush without one. Just understand how they work.

    • @Funkteon
      @Funkteon หลายเดือนก่อน

      Compasses are almost useless for map reading unless the surrounding environment is easily identifiable on the map you're holding in your hand... People get this idea in their head that all they need to find their way back to civilization after a random, unknown, unplanned drop-off is a map and compass, completely ignoring the fact that unless your immediate surroundings are visually identifiable on that map, you're still almost permanently lost... For example, I took a backup paper map and compass to Wadi Rum at the end of 2022, and even though my GPS device was working perfectly, I thought I'd have a crack at navigating with the satellite and see-through topographic map overlay I'd brought with me, and even though I'm a highly proficient map reader, those red rock formations were visually indistinguishable from one another when looking up and back down at that map. It's completely useless tech in parts of the world you're not already somewhat familiar with...

      What a compass like this is good for is noting your general direction of travel, say northeast. Then, if you lose your bearings, you know you have to travel generally southwest to get back to where you started, or at least to a handrail like a road, river, or railroad track.

    As far as boiling water in a plastic bag, I carry an oven bag or slow cooker liner bag. As long as the flame does not touch the bags these work. Obviously, these are used as a last resort. I also carry a Water Pak plastic bag to store water.
