Let's PHOTOGRAPH the FISHhead NEBULA! - Dark Sky ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY VLOG
Join me as I embark on another astrophotography adventure, this time capturing the mesmerizing Fishhead Nebula from my Bortle 3 backyard in Monroe County, West Virginia!!
This nebula is a fantastic target for those using Dualband OSC cameras or Narrowband imaging with a mono setup. In this vlog, I’ll take you through my evening, showcasing how modern astrophotography equipment allows us to capture the beauty of the night sky right from our homes.
It still amazes me every day that we can produce such incredible images of deep-sky objects with the tools we have today. Just ten years ago, achieving a result like this was a real challenge, but thanks to advancements in technology, the process has become more accessible and enjoyable. I’m truly excited to see what the future holds for this incredible hobby.

    Bummer. Started out so promising, and then "you gonna look at your app". Been trying for ages to find information on how to do it without the use of a smartphone or laptop, but it seems nobody seems to know how anymore.

    • @WVAA304
      @WVAA304 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You will always need a way to check the polar time, so I'm not getting why your upset about it? It takes like 2 seconds to check the polar clock. You can print out the times beforehand as well, so you can use them instead of smartphone, but you will still need to check a paper to see, so 🤷‍♂️

    • @WVAA304
      @WVAA304 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There might be an 800 # you can call too get the exact polar time for your latitude, but again, using a phone to do that as well, so yeah... you have to have a way to check the polar time so you can get an accurate PA

    • @EvenTheDogAgrees
      @EvenTheDogAgrees 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@WVAA304 "Upset" is a bit strong. "Frustrated with how hard it seems to find this info, after hours of trying" is a more accurate representation of my mental state. I'm pretty sure people were peering through telescopes on equatorial mounts long before we had smartphones. And I want to know how _they_ did it. I don't think that's an unreasonable desire, nor something to be mocked. The reason I want to know is because I don't like following instructions without understanding the mechanism behind it. I want to know how to cook, not how to follow a recipe that tells me exactly which ingredients to add at precisely which time, without understanding what I'm doing. If I know how it works, I can do the math and go through the operations without relying on an app. This means I don't need to worry about running out of phone battery, and I won't ruin my night vision by looking at the bright screen of my phone. If doing the math requires pen and paper, I can do it under red light, which better preserves my night vision. I don't think "it's easier" is a good argument for using an app. It's also easier to simply look at Hubble images on my computer. They'll be more detailed, and I won't have to freeze my arse off under the cold winter skies. Yet, both of us put in the time and effort to take our own lights and calibration frames, stack and post-process them. If convenience was the driving factor, we wouldn't bother, would we?

If you now (download) and open Siril and navigate in settings to "Miscellaneous", go to Software Location and open the first folder. Navigate to your StarNetv2CLI_MacOS folder and select starnet++ (unix executable file). Starnet will now work from its menu in image processing.

    Thanks for sharing your experience, mine is similar. I've been using a bahtinov mask for the past few years with good results. I've been telling myself that I don't need an EAF; BUT during my last session, I decided to do a 5 hour autorun and found that my focus changed and pretty much ruined most of my images. I now have an EAF, haven't tried it yet though. I guess all it takes is one lost night to convince me.
