    Clumping at the expresso settings is all to do with the roast on the bean, not the burrs

    I have this machine and absolutely love it. I cook by myself and I do have the motor attachment to feed the dough and for me it is great. It leaves both hands to keep control of the dough. Everyone I've ever made fresh pasta for has told me they were amazed at the difference it makes. Do it!

    only issue is the poor Chrome .Its terrible quality and will start to blister and fall off .But Its still a good budget machine

    I'm looking for a device like this to roll my store bought "Puff Pastry Dough" to make small meat pies. Not pasta. Would I be able to use puff pastry dough on this machine? Thanks in advance.

      Can confirm this is the case, just bought one this week and was relieved to find the impeller is a metal design. So far the grind has been perfect for non-pressurized espresso.

      Sadly while the top is metal clad - the actual impeller surface underneath is still the same plastic and still wears. While the metal part may keep it functioning, I’m concerned with the issue of the plastic wearing and being brewed with the coffee.

    I have had this grinder for 5 years. I totally agree that with the stock impeller that this grinder will not do esspresso well and the impeller will where out. Mine did after 6 months of daily esspresso grinding. I replaced the impeller with an aftermarket 3d printed one (I will try to find the link and post it in this comment). So I have been grinding for esspresso everyday now for the past 4 1/2 years with ZERO wear or issues. Highly recommend if you have this grinder and want to use it for esspresso. Also one final tip: to improve ground retention do the air pumping with the lid while the machine is still running. You will remove more captured grounds this way!

      @@macehead So after you replaced the part, you were getting good, consistent shots afterwards? Was that with a pressurized or unpressurized basket? Looking to purchase a grinder for espresso and budget is an issue

      @TheManPrice i am grinding for a non-pressurized portafilter basket. So I have been grinding at true esspresso grind levels with excellent results. I will mention that I do not use very dark/oily beans which can present problems for some grinders. I also remove the burrs and give the grinder a good cleaning about every 3 weeks.

    I believe there is a way to prolong the lifespan of the impeller by doing a more thorough cleaning regularly. Run with rice grain (uncooked) to remove the residues oil that stuck inside the machine. This is what I learnt from some other videos.

      If you have the right consistency with eggs and flour is enough. I usually do mine without water and it works amazingly

    Thank you for the honest review. I am looking for a decent grinder that makes good espresso grinding but in a budget and it is kind of hard to decide. At least, together with this video and many others, the conclusion is quite similar. So I will save money for now and not get this one.

    This is a horrible hand grinder because of its design. Its bottle diameter is too big to hold and for fine grind settings the rubber stopper is of no use. One has to pick it up and hold against the belly for a support as your fingers really hurt due to huge bottle size. Could have been better if it was a cylindrical. Bad buy . Now I am convinced to go for the electric ones. ( Bratza encore will be good). May be you can do quick review of that

    Hi. For how long have you been using it for espresso grinding? And to get this straight, you have been using it for 5 years with the original impeller? Thanks ! Looking forward to reviews of other grinders :D this was quite consistent, but for the clumps, wouldn't a WDT tool solve this issue pretty quickly ?

      thanks for the comments! it was used briefly with espresso. unfortunately (fortunately?) my espresso machine does not use pressurized baskets as most breville units do so the quality of grind was not up to par for my machine. i am on the original impeller which is showing wear but I mostly use this for coarser grinds (french press, pour over, aeropress) which i believe is much more gentle on the impeller

    I've never used a hand grinder before. Approx. how long might it take to grind about 30 grams of coffee beans to medium coarse for a Chemex ?

      I do 20 grams for a chemex and it takes about 40 seconds. This will vary with the roast of your beans give or take 5 seconds.

    How many clicks would you recommend for a french press? I use 6 clicks (counter-clockwise) while the ceramic burr is all the way tight. It seems like the grind is fairly fine.

      Hi Jomaree As there may be variation between these grinders it is hard to say any single setting will work universally. The grind will also depend on the roast of your bean. As with all grinders and brew methods it's going to be trial and error. At the end of the day a finer grind just means less steeping time and a coarser grind will mean longer steeping time. You could start at 4 clicks and adjust to your taste. Thanks for watching!

    Would it be possible to replace the manual crank with an electric drill? Used to do this with the old one. That did break because I did not replace the plastic washer with a metal one. Looks like this one would work out of the box.

      A drill would fit, but I can't comment on whether or not it can handle the extra speed from the drill

    if you let dry u dont need to put flour, cause the pasta dont get sticky, then when u cook it, the water will be clear and the taste will be better (excuse mi english im not english native)

    I just got the pro and was disappointed that the hopper only holds 45g. It technically holds about 50 but the plastic lid is concave which limits space down to 45. Also, the updated rubber bottom fits horribly compared to the older rounder rubber bottoms. You were spot on with 8 clicks but for my Chemex I'll actually go up to 9 or 10.

    Like you video. I just got the Skerton Pro today. Thanks for helping me decide to get it. Quick question. I took it apart to clean after the first use and not sure if I put it together right. I had removed the stainless steel shaft. I inserted the SS shaft back but the spring doesn't seem to stay in a fixed position. It just sit lose where the shaft comes out of the black plastic housing tube. Should the spring sit within the black plastic tube? If I turn the housing down, without the burr, the spring falls out without hesitate. It is just sitting between the burr and the plastic housing tube with a lot of play.

      Not sure if it’s still relevant, but yes, the spring is hell via screw tension between the burr and the plastic housing. There’s a small bushing between the housing and the burr. It goes in with the flanged end facing toward the bottom of the grinder

    I did turn the handle counter clockwise, how bad you think it messed the burr up?

      I honestly have no idea. you could disassemble it inspect the burrs. if it still grinds fine clockwise, i wouldnt worry too much. depending how much CCW action it saw and coarseness of grind, you may have just flattened the burrs a bit.

      @@luandoan9893 it would completely depend on what you're brewing. with my V60 and aeropress, I've had success around 7-8 clicks from tight.

    Hey cool review! Can you help me with a thing... i dismantled my skerton pro for cleaning and i dont know how to put it back together. The 2 plastic rings dont know wich one goes first and in what way. Thanks in advance

      Hi there. There is a flat plastic washer at the top of the shaft and one under the spring-flat side towards the spring. If you pull the shaft out the top you would put the flat one on the shaft, then insert it back into the hopper. From there, you put the stepped washer onto the shaft from the bottom side. Large side facing the spring. I hope that helps!

      That's correct. The insert that holds the burr on the shaft is indeed plastic. There isn't much force applied to it during operation so we will see how well it holds up! Thanks for watching!

    I don’t quite get the need for the scale. To be that exact ... then you tossed a good amount still in the bowl out, and add flour or water as needed through the kneading process... just lost all the accuracy. Not trying to nitpick I just think it’s an extra step that ends up being more work. I do love the atlas 150. Just got one a few weeks ago. I’ve done several pastas. Tonight I’m going to do some ravioli or tortellini. I can’t find the 00 flour at any grocery store here so I’m just ordering on Amazon. Good quality vid. Keep it up. 👍

      The reason I use a scale for all my flour is consistency. Measuring by cups can vary by as much as 20%, especially with finer milled flours, which can be nearly a 1/4 cup. With the ratio of flour:egg I use, it's always easier to dust a little flour on than mixing in water. If you love in Canada, superstore carries a 00 that works very well and easy to access, otherwise I find Italian markets will always carry it. Thanks for watching, I appreciate the feedback!

      One of the videos I watched talked about how humidity and environmental things will affect how your pasta turns out... it could be slightly different each time. The same video said to not worry about it if you weren't able to incorporate all of the flour, they said "the dough will take up as much of the flour as it needs to get to the correct consistency".
