    Intermittent cuts can be quite challenging especially with plastic or epoxy. Well done sir👍👍. The split marks were a very convincing mimick of bamboo as well. An excellent example that spared the expense. P.S. thanks you for sharing your work. Did you know a plastic dinosaur is made from real dinosaurs?

    Wonderful video! I am very grateful for the beginning of your video and the statement you made. I see you have embraced modern technology with your chisels and shapers with replaceable inserts, why not. I see it as someone embracing the journey not fixated on the destination. I cannot thankyou enough for what I have just viewed, or perhaps i can by creating my own. I have been searching for videos on this trade and your ancestral artisanal approach is truly the inspiration I was looking for. Looking forward to any future videos you may post. I learned alot from your video and my only hope is that my comment can truly show my appreciation for your efforts. A big fan of your work, as long as the world keeps spinning I will continue to turn. P.S.S.

      I just saw this comment and I want to say I truly appreciate your kind words. I’m so glad that I was able to give you such inspiration. That is my primary goal with this channel, to show people there is no set way to do things and that you don’t have to have the best tools or skill to make something nice. Thank you again for your kind words! You have inspired me as well.

    Cyanoacrylate = C.A. Glue, as a hobbyist I have used CA glue in particular (Thin) to resurface hand carved propellers. The finish is sanded to 600 before application, my trick was to raid the fingernail section at Walmart for fine nail boards using progressively finer grades wile layering the glue in progression finally polishing with Mothers Aluminum polish to a high gloss. There's my tip for you! Keep it up!

    How do you treat the bowl so you are not smoking wood or the finish? In other word how do you make it safe to smoke from?

    • @bolenswoodworks
      @bolenswoodworks ปีที่แล้ว

      This being my first time making one I can't say for certain what is the best way but from the research I've done some people will mix maple syrup with charcoal and coat the bowl and others will let the pipe burn through a few rounds of tobacco to let the resin from the tobacco itself seal the wood. I'm no expert in this so I can't really say what is the best way to go about it. I didn't put any of the finish inside the bowl itself and opted to burn about 10 bowls worth of tobacco through it before use.

    • @planexshifter

      You use untreated wood. You canonize the inner part by burning tobacco in it. The carbon hardens and provides a shield to the wood. Unless you smoke your pipe exceptionally hot, this carbon layer won’t burn and protects the wood of the pipe and your hand!

    Not perfect but still beautiful. How is perfection measured? My friend this is a stunning piece which, as far as I am concerned, IS Perfect! It is hand made, and not mass produced in a factory, where every piece is exactly the same. As a woodworker, 99% of the time the imperfections are only seen by the maker. To everyone else, it is character. Well done.

      It could be that the chute is getting clogged. I would suggest completely removing it and checking if there may be some wood chips or maybe even some plastic you may have missed blocking it. Hope this helps!

    Lovely design - I have saved the video and subscribed. I'm a total newbie and not started my hobby yet - just getting all my stuff together and started collecting scrap wood and tables etc. to use. I have to sell or wind down my home business first as I've decided to retire and go into my woodworking that I always wanted to do.

  • @GavinConwayWoodworkBBQ

    Also - why do you go all sorts of ways with your router when rounding the edges? Router direction looking from the top of the router is clockwise so you must go against the cut so you must move anticlockwise aroud the board to get the correct cut and stop burning and juddering.

    • @bolenswoodworks

    No wood glue - just a squeeze of superglue?

    • @bolenswoodworks
      @bolenswoodworks ปีที่แล้ว

      I left a note in the video when I was gluing it all together that I was only intending to use this for photos that I will use for listings. since I was going to keep it on hand as a prop I decided to save myself some time and just use super glue. I guess I didn't leave the note up there long enough to read so I apologize for the confusion. If you make a board for use you will want to use wood glue.
