Off Grid with Duane and Colleen
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 ก.ย. 2018
We are 100% debt free, living life to the fullest both On and OFF grid. If you've been following us you know our Off Grid Adventure was affected by Covid. Duane needed oxygen 24hrs a day so that forced us back into town and we cashed out on an old 1917 Bungalow. During the week, we are restoring this 106 yr old Bungalow while working the off-grid property on the weekends. The off-grid story began when we lost our daughter in law suddenly and we realized that life is too short so chase your dreams while you can and make memories. She took lots of pictures and we learned then after the fact, how precious it is to record life! So, now as we help our son raise our beautiful granddaughter; we strive to raise her up loving Jesus, nature, and a simpler way of life. There is so much to do so please follow us as we work to make this happen. We hope you learn some new things as we go along. We hope you are INSPIRED to start living your dreams as well!
Close call! Avoiding a Mt. Lion and its recent kill while we bush hog and log some firewood.

We moved in the first weekend of December 2021. Let's see what we get done!

Tragedy hit while on vacation. This is our vacation journey and how God still moves mountains!

While we were on vacation, our son was riding his motorcycle and a Moose jumped out causing him to crash at a high rate of speed. He also wasn't wearing a helmet. He was life flighted and was on life support, all the while we had no idea. On the evening of 8/29/23, we were notified by FB messenger, that they believed they had a person in ICU and I was their emergency contact. I called immediate...

Are you guys still using the stove? I haven’t seen many reviews on this stove.
What size is your RV carport? Thx...😂
do you have protection
Yes we do. 😊
That is a Pileated wood pecker. They are much larger than the Redheaded Wood Pecker. The Redheaded Wood Pecker is much smaller and has a red hood that covers the entire head, throat and the back of its neck area. The Pileated has a black and white striped face with the large read crest. But they are huge compared to the Redheaded WP
Ah!! Thank you for that education! We just thought it was so beautiful!
@@offgridwithduaneandcolleen3079 It was a great catch on camera. They are quite elusive so not many ppl get to see one of those. Therefore many don't know what they are. When you see it in person you get a real sense of how large they are. They are twice the size of a redhead.
only problem is the ground heaves when it freezes- anything rigid will buckle. notice mobile home skirting is able to move up and down with the ground
Ah Thank you! Yep your gonna get us real people and a real grandbaby occasionally living a dream. Thank you for watching and letting me know WHY!!
Very welcome. All the best from Scotland.
Stumbled across this and I feel it is worth a Sub for a few reasons. (1 ) I love this stuff. ( 2 ) As an oldie I am fed up with some channels where young women walk around in boob tubes and tight shorts to lure in the Men. ( 3 ) I am here for the content not for semi naked people.. ( 4 ) I look forward to seeing how this all comes along and will watch your other videos.
Colleen you are such a goober! Sisters forever!
Who knew you guys were so smart and resourceful🤣
Congrats on being debt free! Good luck with the build :D
Thank you!! 😁
3 years later, do you recommend this stove? Looking at getting one!
Where is Harpers Mom?
Ah Thank you!!! We are in North Idaho. I hope you get to live your dream! We feel very blessed and sore to be living ours! Please let me know what you like about our channel, so I can focus on that and if something is boring let me know that too! I started this for family not expecting anyone else to watch LOL!
New to your channel. Hope you saved some fun times and adventures for me to share. Would love to build our own house. We are in our early 50’s with our last kid as a senior this year in HS. I’ll live vicariously through your journey. What state or Canada are you in? Virginia here. Enjoyed the “gritters “. I was born in Alabama but never cared for grits lol. Be well. Your new sub from Virginia.
That is the nicest skirting solution I have seen.
Good job huys😅
Hi neighbor! Welcome back to the hood. Good to hear from you again,
Hey, thanks
♥
Hey, Glad to hear Allen is doing so good. Good job on that big tree. You Guys have fun. You're our favorite show on TH-cam!!!
Thanks so much! Wow.... Just curious if you are family or friend? Can't tell who this is. What is it that makes us your favorite?
Thank you kindly for making this video. The J hooks, quick disconnect and choice of hardware are genious as I couldn't figure out how to install without drilling or using foil tape. Great job!
Great job, thanks for sharing.
Great video
Sorry Folks I didn't realize the music shifted during upload!
great stuff
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. I enjoy watching you guys
AH! Thank you! I'm glad to know we are bringing joy to someone's day!
Cute kitchen! Good job
What a cool old house. I like the built ins
Love the butterflies. You guys are really rocking and rolling on that place.
thank you!! it's a lot of work but it's worth it. I love this little house!
Looks so good! Lots of hard work, paying off.
That’s a really nice looking skirting, thank you for your creativity.
Thank you!
Is this the 8 or the 12?
It's the 8 :)
How long of burn time do you usually get with regular wood? Also does reg wood have to be chopped? Will it not burn it if it’s not?
@@Drose419 If we use REGULAR Presto Logs (3 1/2"), we can get 6-8hrs of burn time if we get a good bed of coals started then load the shoot up with 2 logs. So about 3-4hrs a presto log. DO NOT USE HARD WOOD Presto logs! They swell in the shoot and you have to let your stove cool down to get them out. Yes, you can use regular wood in it too! We do have to split it so it's diameter is less than 4". The other thing we did was remove one of the fire bricks right in front to the glass door. It gets much better air flow and our coal bed is MUCH better now. We like this stove. It does a good job for us.
You have inspired me to continue efforts to establish my off grid place here in north Idaho. No need to sit out the winter planning on next springs projects: might as well get started now. Excellent video, and, may I say, selection of music! Being some what of a banjo player, I enjoy the acoustic chops.
Yay! Thank you Jim! We are happy you are staying busy this winter! can't wait to see what you get done!!
That is fantastic guys!!! It looks great
Awesome! We have discovered a few things that makes it work even better too! We love this stove! DON"T PUT HARDWOOD PRESTO LOGS IN IT!! FYI!!.... tell your customers. When the stove heats up, those logs get stuck in the shoot and you have to let the stove cool down to get them to move. Normal presto logs work perfect!
Most complete hardware stores will carry eyelets/grommets of different sizes for such repairs.
I didn't know that! yay Thank you!
Where do u find these
They are built in Post Fallls Idaho by 509 stoves. Tell him we sent you. He's a super nice guy!
Love your setup!
Thank you so much! We have ALOT of work ahead but should be fun!!
I don't understand what the J hooks are connecting to and the wood support on the bottom, how did you connect it to the foam??
The foam is glued to a fiberglass sheet. The J hooks reach under the RV And connect to the RV Skirt itself. Its a wing nut we got a home depot and "J" part reaches in and grabs the skirt lip so we don't have to screw holes into the RV itself to hold it there. The wood support at the bottom is part of the wood frame that holds the fiberglass sheet. Its a 2x2 frame. I hope this helps answer your question? If not, I will have my husband give a short video with a detailed instruction of what he did and why. :)
@@offgridwithduaneandcolleen3079 What is the fiberglass sheet for? Did you glue the wooden supports to the foam?
Beautiful & functional build. Love all the repurposes items.
Thank you so much!
I see the vision but better insulate lol see ya guys can't wait to your next video
We have bids going now to blow in insulating! Love watching u guys too! Keeps us motivated!
Hey guys we love the video.. a hydronic snow blower lol love it
What an exciting adventure! The winter will pass quickly then it will be back to the property and your new neighbors. Thanks for posting.
Always look forward to a new posting. You are living the dream, well, my dream anyway.
Ah Jim! You are part of our dream so you are living it WITH us!
That looks like a fun project.

Colleen is a pretty awesome nurse, Allright. Glad she is nursing Duane.bsck to health. And what a bad@ss out there dealing with bears and such. You got this.
ah I love you Jess! You know me so that means alot! I was planning how I would scurry behind the axel of the trailer if it was the sow and her cub. it was probably just a deer though!

Idaho :)

No way!!
Very confusing on how it all came together but nice idea!
Thank you for that feedback! We are learning to be more specific on projects We are doing. Thank you for watching!
so, based your comment I went back into the video and linked it to part 2 which is more specific on how it all comes together. I hope this helps!
Colleen, I envy you actually. Wish I could do the same. I feel like curveballs are going to keep coming in this crazy world.
Thank you. I have left the hospital and am now working remotely. The Nursing shortage is so rough! Thank you for your strength and passion! Set a goal and keep that goal in front of you. Take baby steps to accomplish the goal! That is what we did. It took us 20 years to find this property and planning to find the city house as an investment. Its now all paying off but the next 2-3 years ahead are going to be hard. Stay tuned and see how we fair! I hope it encourages you to chase your DREAMS!!
@@offgridwithduaneandcolleen3079 I have been applying to remote jobs, no bites yet. I am home schooling my youngest and want to be home more
@@rasingirl75 Get your Washington license (easy) as Providence is hiring Case managers, and there are lots of remote nursing jobs for care managers, triage etc! :)
Awesome video 😁 I was wondering how those did...
Thank you! Congrats on your new property!! We are actively moving to ours and trying to avoid the mama bear and cub! YIKES~!
How exciting! Duane got covid and is on Oxygen now so we are halted at the moment. We watch you guys so we don't loose that spark :)
Don't have to put on drain to spin
I'm from the challenge too (replay viewer). Nice job! Keep it up!!!
