Liberty to Newmarket

Virtual Tour of a bike ride we made in 2012 between Warrenton (at Liberty) to Newmarket, Va for lunch at Southern Kitchen. I imported GPS data from a tablet I had running in my tour pak, and then imported that data into Google Earth to create a virtual tour of the same ride.

Use Oak Wood Or Harder Wood For Wedge /;)))
Very informative video but it wasn't necessary to remove the clutch adjustment but when you was trying to get to the clutch hub nut... Could have just taken snap ring pliers and remove the clip and pull the whole adjuster out... If your clutch is fine and feels good no need to have to readjust it
I have 2009 ultra classic it’s leaking between a Moto and the transmission. Do you have any videos? Thank you. 6:36
You forget to mention what the torque is, if you do a video, please be detailed to include all information
Just need a new seal replaced mine
Great video👊🏻 Thank you, I’m using your step by step to fix my clutch issue👊🏻
Thank you for the best, most comprehensive and complete video for shifter shaft seal replacement. I will be using the service manual along with this video to repair mine.
I just bought a new Auto chain tensioner, the metal frame is wider so you will not need those little spacers anymore.
Please add a video of a drive belt r and r when the time comes, you did a great video, thanks
Yep, tightened mine with a ball end Allen, 2007 ultra
It's a 9-year-old video, and it's still one of the best out there. Although I would go ahead and upgrade the compensator and tensioner
I upgraded with the SE comp and it is way thicker than the original.
Compensator Nut use 13/16 1/2 drive socket with a 30" breaker bar. Came off pretty easy. When removing chain tensioner there are some spacers be careful not to lose them. Just some little details that may help. Great video!
i really appreciate this video !
Great how to video. The only thing you missed was putting tape on the shifter shaft before you installed the new seal, and you may have pushed it in too far, it's supposed to be flush with the case and rest against the washer. Also, if you have a SE compensator installed, you should get a new bolt, Harley recommends not to re-use the old one.
Amazing video! You made it look so easy I am having to play in my shift Rod as well I addressed it in the front but I'm going to have to do this process for the back I think I'm also going to do the starter at the same time so I'll have good access thank you so much for doing this

This was such a good straight forward video, great job and thank you!
Is it correct you had a wobble of the shifter shaft before changed the sleeve and it was gone after?
Yes
What is the tore spec 5 inter prim bolts. 2010 electric glide ultra classic
Can anybody tell me what's up with the crop looking fields all mottled flat?
I have had 2 of the inter primary bearings go bad, wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
What year bike
@@fascamaro 2010 Ultra.
@@roberttaylor4608 I just bought a used 2009 almost up to the primary bearing. I did notice some scraping on the case i guess from the fly wheel.something else to look into.
Great informative video! Very good job.
I know it late but that main primary seal is a dry install never to be oiled just fyi
Best video yet on this. procedure. Thanks.... !!!!!
very complete video - excellent job !
what is that shifter shaft oil seal part number??
Excellent video!! The bike should be on gear, neutral or does not matter??
You did not torque the bolts properly. Not smooth and you double n triple torqued them. One click n one click only.
many thanks for this video 🙂
Exactly what I have on my 2010 Ultra. But I have rounded the cap head Allen. I just need space in the garage to have a go at this job.
Have to say this is a great video.
Great video! You did a great job of explaining the process.
Big seal behind the clutch should not be lubricated around the outer edge where it fits inside of the casing.
Why?
@@roberttaylor4608 Goes in dry, because it will eventually come out if lubricated. Refer to Brad the Harley wizard.
What the good gasket brand?
I just purchased gaskets from the local Harley Dealer. I suppose you can find some aftermarket gaskets somewhere, but I don't have any information about that.
I’m going to have to do this (and more) to change my final drive belt on my 14’ street glide. It has a small melt spot on it from my exhaust header cross pipe from my air ride when I ride with it fully maxed out. Figured it out little too late. I should get the rest of this season out of it. But this winter I have to dig in. Sucks-
Very nice and very detailed video..👌👌
Nice video thank you! What was the lubricant you used on the orings and gaskets?
Thanks for you comment. I just use Syn3 or similar engine oil with fairly high viscosity. The idea is simply to allow enough tackiness to hold things in place as parts are mated, and allow a slight bit of adjustment to fully seat properly, but not so much as cause too much sliding around or over wetting the gasket.

Hi. Here in East Yorkshire in the UK I have a 2005 Road King Classic with same mileage and the same problem. Thanks for a clear and comprehensive go-to. Much obliged to you and many thanks from an old biker. Regards D.W.
One of the things I will be investing is a bike jack...a good one.
This has been the best Thorough video if seen on this primary
Yeah except the entirety of removing the starter from the inner primary
That has to be one of the best tutorials I had the pleasure of watching. Thank you!!! I have the same slack on mine and I’m confident in doing the repair myself. Thx again!!!
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.
Thanks for sharing. I'm new to Harleys, great instructional video. Top job to.
Glad it was helpful!
Did you disconnect your neg battery first? Is it necessary?
Yes you should
Excuse me , Mr. Good wrench , you put the inter primary oil seal in backwards , the FLAT side ALWAYS goes to the outside , The side that has the SPRING AROUND THE RUBBER LIP >>>>>>>>> ALWAYS GOES TOWARD THE OIL ! It dosent matter what your working on cars, trucks , lawn mowers , farm tractors , etc . I wonder how many people did what you showed them and had to rebuy gaskets and seals because it leaked , and it didnt take very long to show up leaking/seeping , harley had the seal in correctly , you put it in backwards ..........go back and look at the video ..........
Wrong flat side is the oil side. It says it on the seal. Whoever did it before did it wrong.
@@fascamaro What I said > The side that has the SPRING AROUND THE RUBBER LIP >>>>>>>>> ALWAYS GOES TOWARD THE OIL .........
i really enjoy this video , i learned alot and i thank you for the information you provided to help me do this repair ,myself on my bike !
That's good to hear. Enjoy the ride!
Excellent repair
I was right there, doing the same thing on an '01 ultra classic. Shift shaft seal issue too. I went farther. Pulled the belt sprocket (hey! I'm there, right?) Did the mainshaft seal, the "quad seal" and that "square" o-ring behind it. I did all that thinking "I'm there...do it" But I f'd up...should have gone 1 step further...all I had to do was pull a few more bolts & the top trans cover...adjust the shifter pawl. FRACK! I won't be back in there for 20+K. Oh well, just saying, if you're in there...do it! Oh, & I like my manual primary chain adjuster...replaceble shoes 😁
Hi from Greece I have a friend with Electra glide we have a issue but I have not idea about Harleys ,I have a gear oil leak ( I know Is gear oil because I can smell it ,(engine oil smell different) How is possible to leak gear oil from the clutch cover (left side) I thought in the clutch cover there is engine oil ,where this gear oil leak might coming ? Sorry if my explain is not correct
The clutch is in the primary chain case, not the engine. It may look like it is part of the engine, but it is in an entirely separate compartment. You can see that in this video, toward the end when I show how to adjust the clutch. Some people put SYN 3 in the primary, as well as the transmission, and the motor. Others use a higher viscosity oil for the primary oil (gear oil).
@@dldavis3 Ok I see ,yes I show your videos I can understand a little bit now ,we don't have any cracks ,so is it the only reason of the leak the cover gasket you think ? Can we put synthetic 20w-50 oil in the primary? Many thanks
@@georgetech380 Yes, you can put Syn3 20W50 in the primary. Some people use Mobil1 synthetic 20W50 for V-Twin motorcycles also in the primary.... says right on the front of the Mobil1 bottle that it is good for the primary chaincase. I can't be sure where your primary oil leak is though. That takes a bit of work, because oil tends to spread everywhere once it escapes. You can try to clean everything on the exterior primary surface, and then check for any signs of oil right after a ride. It's often frustrating to find exactly where that leak is. It could be the inspection cover, or it could be anywhere on the primary case seals, or it could be behind the primary on any one of the shafts that protrude from the back of the primary (like the shift lever, as in this video). Look for where dirt collects.
@@dldavis3 Ok many thanks
great video, helped a bunch n saved me a ton, thanx alot.👍
Great to hear!
Nice video to have, I have a ultra classic 08 looks identical to yours except wheels. I’m guessing yours is an 09. This will be useful for me to do primary tear down and rebuild. 😁👍👍
Yes it is!
