I'm a Colorado native but have lived in the desert 35 years. It's 7,000 ft elevation in Salida, so that's why you are so winded. People from low altitudes need to know they may need a few days to adjust, as the change can cause headaches, dizziness (not a good sign), tiredness and being winded. The scenery and environment are truly worth it!

FYI, the locals prounounce it BYOO-na Vista, not BWE-na. Yes it's weird. Sort of like how Salida is Sa-LIE-da rather than the proper Sa-LEE-da (exit in Spanish). Thank you for the detailed boondocking info! Yes, lots of spots up 375 and the side roads off it, they're all over up there.

I lived in Salida a little over 10 years ago, and there are some changes. The Natural Grocer didn't exist, and the trail you roller bladed on is twice as long. Happy to see it's still as charming as ever. The Fritz is a great place to eat, and yes they do eat a lot of Pizza. Moonlight Pizza is amazing!

Thank you for sharing how to find boondocking. I have used iOverlander but Outly is exactly what I needed, going to NFS or BLM websites is awkward for me and I only wanted to find a convenient map showing land and who owns or runs the areas. I'm still a newbie and I have an older Class A and tried to get into places I shouldn't have tried. I like the idea of using Google maps to look for campers. When driving, I see campers out in the land and keep asking myself, how do these people find where to camp? How do they know its public land? I did go up route 89 to Prescott from Congress, that road was an adventure in itself! I ended up going to a Rest Stop on i17 for 2 nights because I couldn't figure out how to find land to boondock on. I'm glad your channel popped up.🙂

Hey, Thanks for this. There is a guy talking about "buying land" and then being a "Nomad." He's got a vid about an acre near Williams (two years ago) but now has 20 acres over more east of there (I think) Anyway. Boondocking is independent and popular too. Verrry cool. Maybe for me. ~. But here. ~ So positive that you are a "talker." Huge amount of information. You have my attention. (I subscribed) ~~~. Thanks again. Just great. ~~~ Mr. Not Worthy from New Hampshire.

@@socalvanlife so I did not do the R2R2R as it was too cold for my liking at the N Rim. Camped on Rd 9350 site 16 the week before Memorial weekend. The first thing I noticed after the view was the trash. Yikes. I cleaned up the broken beer bottles and trash and picked up a dozen or so plastic bags along the rd. There was a lot of trash down the cliff I could not access but wanted to. Probably the dirtiest campsites I have ever seen, especially in a Nat Forest. Maybe if they had a trash bin somewhere, anywhere, people would be more inclined to use, however still no excuse for littering. Off to the N Rim for me soon, skipping the S as I have camped there 2 times before. Peace!
