Fall Black Sea Bass Fishing
10/12/24 - Trevor and I went out on his boat. We started at 6:30am, went through the inlet and headed about three miles offshore a few miles north of the inlet. There was a stout West Wind blowing and it was getting pretty rough out there with whitecaps and stacked 3 footers starting to build up.
We headed back in to shore and went further North to a known rockpile close to shore in hopes of getting some Sea Bass.
We ended up catching a few Sea Bass (4 keepers) along with some Weakfish, Bluefish, Porgies, Dogfish and even a Fluke!
We then trolled some Mojo Rigs for an hour to see if we could get an early striped bass with negative results.

Last Day of the 2024 Fluke Season!! NJ
มุมมอง 194หลายเดือนก่อน
My friend Trevor and I were able to get out on the last day of the NJ Fluke/Summer Flounder Season on 9/25/2024. We started in the afternoon after a day at work and were able to get out and fish for about 4 hours. It was very breezy with a strong wind from the east pushing us against the tide. Conditions were not great but we did catch a few to finish off the season and had a lot of fun. Trevor...

9/14/2024 I was invited by my friend Hector to go out on his friend Eddie's Boat along with Eddies friend Denny. We started the day at 6:00am loading the boat and punched out of the inlet just after sunrise. We headed East-Southeast to some tuna grounds that were productive the previous 2 weekends and set up a troll as we neared the area. We quickly hooked up to 2 on the troll and lost them but...

I apologize for not getting it up sooner. I though I lost it but found it on one of my portable hard drives. I hope you enjoy the video!
Beautiful Day Fishing 20 Miles Out!
มุมมอง 4552 หลายเดือนก่อน
8/24/24 we went out 20 miles to some different inshore grounds on the hunt for Bluefin Tuna. We were ready to troll and/or jig as needed but we did not seed any real bait, birds or definitive marks to jig. Mark and I were fishing with Phil and Billy, both new to the channel, on Phil's new boat, a 28 foot McKee Craft (Freedom 28). I couldn't believe how good his boat rides! Soft landings and no ...
My very first MAHI MAHI !!!!
มุมมอง 732 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is from 8/15/2024. We were chasing reports of Bluefin Tuna reported the last 2 days from 2 separate locations that we would go try. We trolled the area until we came to some lobster pots, trolled through the line and if they looked dirty, or we saw fish on the fishfinder, we pulled the spread and pitched bait, small bucktais and metals at them. We definitely gave it the old college try but...
Fluke Tournament Fishing!!
มุมมอง 4173 หลายเดือนก่อน
We participated in the 2024 Pt. Pleasant Elks Fluke Tournament. We went out on Mark's boat with four of us fishing. Mark, Bill, Tom and me! We had a pretty decent day with a lot of action. More than 30 Fluke were caught along with skates, sea robins, sea bass and even some sundials. We only had 2 keepers at just over 18 inches but we did get to enjoy the picnic afterwards.

That’s an awesome encounter.
Always great to get out!
Yes it is!
Is it true you are supposed to measure black sea bass from the fork inside of the tail instead of the elongated fins?
@@MAX99999 I know you don't use the long tendrils. I believe you use the majority of the tail not including the long strings.
Don't care for Manasquan , werid place.
Its not too bad but I have been there for awhile. It can get crazy with a fast outgoing and waves stacking at the entrance.
😢😢
I know. It was not a great season for me. Most of my days fluking were very similar with just a few shorts caught each day. Only had 2 keepers all season :(
@@participationtrophyfishing I feel ya
Don't eat that fish lol
They are delicious. False albacore not so much. I like to cube the strips, blacken them and the just pan fry or air fry like blackened tuna bites!
no way how your the best fisherman👍
I appreciate it! Always trying to learn to get better all the time. It sure is a lot of fun to catch them along the way.
💪🏼😃👍🏼💯🍺
Thank You!
Looked like a fun trip.
It was! Would have been nice to add some Mahi or Blue Fins but we had a lot of fun.
I hate that canal. I'm glad I go straight out of Barnegat.
It's not fun in heavy traffic and when the current is strong. Sometimes it's like a lake during mid tide and is pretty nice to cruise through. I do wish I was closer to the Manasquan Inlet though, so I could be out in no time vs 30-40 minutes from dock to ocean.
Great idea
How do you find the pots close to Manasquan Inlet?
There are some 2-2,5 miles straight out of the inlet. There are also some right at the top of the Axel, southeast of the axel and bottom pf the Sea Girt Reefs. I found them just by fluke fishing different parts of the local reefs or bottom structure/features i tried after seeing them on my Navionics App. Hard to beet a diving plane or drail weight with a clarkspoon. Go smaller on the clarkspoon to get the smaller fish and you can still get spanish macks and Bonito.
my question is where are themarine police. years ago they would tell you to slow down no wake zone then when you got to the end there was the state police giving people tickets, what happened the canal is like a drag strip they now fly through there
Some do for sure. I have seen them chase after serious violators but the amount of people that try to follow the rules is a lot less in the past 4-5 years. I try to follow them as long as I have control of the boat but will through some wake if I need to maintain as straight a line as possible when traffic is there.
The canal was built without any impact studies in1925. It increased the flow in the Manasquan in let that it shoaled closed and had to be redredged. It’s a man made freak. The original RT 88 bridge had two large supports in the canal. The turbulence that they created was much worse than what you see now. When it was really ripping people used to go down to watch the boats crash in those abutments.😂😂
I heard about it causing shoaling and taking the Metedeconk from fresh to salt but didnt know about the 88 bridge. My Father in Law says it was a lot rougher when he use to go through it many years ago.
Full video please
I will put the whole video up when I get a chance.
Personal opinion here those taste the best
I have only had them from the fishmarket but they were pretty darn good then. Can't wait to have one same day caught by me. Hopefully soon.
It looked like fun, I’ve heard the mahi were small this year. They grow quickly so maybe in a month the larger ones will be around.. hope to see you out there.
Definitely!!! I will be out there again. Would love to get a nice Mahi to take home and also still looking for that inshore bluefin to hit some gear! Hope to see you out here as well.

Thank You
Good nigth
Yes, please sho the whole cacao . Thanks
I will put the whole thing up when I get a chance.
I try to find a big boat, get right behind his whale tale and it's just as good as glassy water
I agree but with all that traffic, the wakes bouncing off the walls, it was like a washing machine. It was pretty cool to be in though.
We fished the Rattle Snake last weekend and we had solid action for a bit then it shut off. 2 keeper fluke, 5 sea bass and 4 Ling to end the day.
If it was Saturday, we were there as well. Started out closer to shore and moved out deep after a lot of shorts. We ended up with 2 Fluke and a Sea Bass. No ling for us but we had plenty of skates harassing us.
So nerve wracking! Only times I don't want to captain the boat-when the inlet gets bad. Inlet scares me more than the canal!
It was very interesting, and the video does not quite do it justice. It is always the other boats that throw the excitement into the canal or the inlet. I have had people cut right in front of me to turn around in both and don't forget the people that go 15mph in the canal passing people waking everyone bad. Either ride can be great or a knuckle biter
Shotgun starts are awesome!
It was pretty awesome!
captain did the right thing ! cool video
@@josepchmasi I agree. I witnessed a few boats turned by the wakes at that time. You can see that parker get turned at 1:10 in the video. You hear me basically saying to go but when Mark saw a few boats knocked sideways, he chose to be safer for all of us.
Where was this?

What river was this you were fishing?
It is the Manasquan River
Im not gonna b the director too your vids But show us the mishaps show us you fighting the fish if they get off or not 🫡 Good vid good fish
Thank You for watching and I am glad you liked the video. Its always a trade off deciding what to include or not and try to keep the vids to certain lengths. The 2 on the ocean not seen were not even recorded, didn't realize they were on until I got it to the surface with the deadstick. The other 2 were really small but I could have included them but didn't want the time to run too long. I do have some mishaps in some of my videos, Hook in the hand and some others, and have no issues embarrassing myself. LOL
@@participationtrophyfishing no no not mishaps Whatever your final vid is your final vid .. jus giving my views. Keep doing what you do 🫡your vids and others like are very inspirational

I have an ugly stick and an old berkley boat pole still kicking around. They have had better days but use to catch some fish!
Good stuff
Thank You!
props on actually removing the hook
Thanks! They can be a pain sometimes
where is this at?
This in the Ocean off of NJ in Ocean County.
The harmonic balancer in your F150 is really bad if you can hear it like this. It's about to let go and the particles are going to clog up the oil intakes and burn down your engine.
I appreciate it. I will definitely get it looked at and worked on. It is now out of the water and about to be stored.
@@participationtrophyfishing You're welcome. It's a widespread issue so all owners should be aware, yamaha really should have recalled them. I had to do mine a few months ago. There's one video on youtube that will show you how to replace it if you are up to DIY.
@@Eric-zs6rd I found a few vids of it, before and after. It definitely has the sound of it. Doesn't seem to bad to DIY.

Fairly new subscriber here. Would you mind sharing what kind of spoons you were jigging? Thank you. 🍀
Ben Parker Magnum Flutter Spoon, 8", 3.5oz they work pretty good but you have to pull them up 3-6 feet fast and ride it down slow with a little slack in the line so you can feel the thump when they hit on the way down. similar or the same to how I use an Ava Jig. Thank you for watching and subscribing!
