In Numbers God told Moses to "speak" to the rock not strike it. That's why God didn't let them enter into the land that was promised to them. Cause Moses and Aaron disobeyed Gods command thus led to Aaron's death on the top of the Mountain. I think Moses was angry and frustrated with the people of Israel. That's why instead of him doing what God commanded him to do he lashed on the ppl of Israel and then struck the rock twice out of anger. This was not a good representation of God's Holiness, which in return kindled God's anger to punish them for it. It seemed like tho Aaron was appointed a high priest position he was too easily manipulated by the ppl of Israel and his own intrusive thoughts about Moses his brother. Which I think God was like yea I'm gonna have to smite this Man in a little while. I haven't read Exodus yet Lord willing I will by the Power of the Holy Spirit and the grace of God in Jesus Name.
