To jog my memory for future rides - 1) e- bike only on shuttle up,.. duh. Stays on B Mt rd then has a left turn to head toward WR. Only go with Joe or Ed because I would not even be able to find the parking let alone the trail 2) The start was not very good. a lot of loose dirt and a few funky rolls 3) For an am ride 1-3 x times a year it is totally worth doing as seen in vid for some variation...

2 days prior we had run into a big rattlesnake and the night before Jake ran into a mama bear with cubs while trippin! This ride was a lesson of what not to do. Too hot. day to pedal from strawberry to 8500' then not eat while heading into the hardest terrain, well mostly I was spooked due to the looming heat and insane egress/hike a bike out. I wanted to hang with the better riders and check o...

That steely, ice-pick thru the skull treble, just like the JEL20. I thought it was the EL84 tubes, but this 50 has EL34's and has that same tonality. The one thing I learned is, I will never buy another Friedman.
How does it compare to the JEL-20?..
every other note on the verge of or going into artificial harmonics would drive me crazy.. is that the amp?
Yup, and in my experience w/ the JEL20, it cannot be dialed out. I even snipped the Bright Cap on the Gain Channel, still there. It makes a Les Paul sound like a Tele w/ a broken pickup.
Sounds great. I was looking at these, but went with the Alta instead.
Excellent tones !!
Been a while since I checked in, Don….this sounds absolutely spectacular!! I was thinking of picking up the 20 to put with my Little Sister. Btw, if you still have your Hot Mod, these sound KILLER with those. As always, you got this thing dialed in perfectly. Good to see you doing well.👍🇺🇸
Sounds awesome! Just picked up a mint hundie today from someone kinda local. I revisited your series of videos that you did a few years ago and they helped me decide for sure. I couldn’t bring myself to send the BE-100 deluxe out to be modded.
🤘🏻🕺🏽🎸
Half stack in the living room -either you’re single or you have a really cool wife! Either way I’m jealous 😅
@@mKreifeldt Ha! Ya she is a keeper, not because she likes my hard rock in playing but because she never asks what UPS is dropping off next😃. I don’t keep it in the front room unless I’m getting ready to transport it to a gig 🤙
Sounds great. I get mine in December. Its replacing a SL 68 Mk 2 so it has big shoes to fill.
Please chime back in but you will now have a loop midi, 3 channels and many variations of better than Marshall tones!!
@@cragginshred Jason will be on our show next Tuesday at 6 pm PST to do a deep dive on the Alta youtube.com/@ohyouateone2?si=fM35nslvBh5imyGB
I always appreciate an amp review but the moment you start putting a boost and other assorted effects in the chain I stop watching. The video is no longer about the sound of the amp. It's about that guys tone, which could be wildly different than the actual sound of the amp unfiltered.

Buys 7000 dollar half stack…records clips to demo 7000 dollar amp with an iPhone….what a time to be alive
@@truckguy3 The ONLY people who talk smack on YT are those with Zero content on their Chanel, Zero followers and Zero likes…. You’re a Zero!! To address your comment using a DAW with plugs ins and IRs will not allow you to hear what the amp would sound like in your room. An iPhone provides and exact replica of the tone out of the can in the room. Dozens of guitarists have commented how much they appreciate me not altering the tone. Bang on!
@@cragginshred yes, because the in the room sound is SOOOO important. You do realize literally every single record you’ve ever heard in your entire life is the sound of a MICROPHONE against a cabinet, right? The “in the room”‘sound is literally the most useless, completely selfish sound in the band. It does nothing for anyone other than yourself. Also, if you think an iPhone captures “an exact replica of the sound of the cab” in the room, you are more dense than I thought. How does a speaker that has a range of about 300hz to about 3k translate at ALL to the sound of an amp in the room? Gee, I must have missed all those engineers recording amazing guitar tones with iPhones, I guess that’s the secret! 😂😂😂 got ALOT to learn homie, but keepin blastin away in your room making literally no music whatsoever!
Sounds so good. How different is it from a BE 100 Deluxe?
@@johndeschain2156 Has an upper mid KERRANG that I dig. The deluxe is killer in a different way
That is a pretty chunky trail! How did you ever find it and how do you know where to go? Well done!
@@solaris8118 it’s a local trail well known by many, but you will never find any Intel about the hundreds of miles of trails we have up here unless you hook up with local.
I just want to change channels with effects using one button to turn each one on with layered effects and the preset mode lags to hard when it’s in that mode
Great! What speaker are in that cab?
Greenbacks. Amp sounds good at ear bleeding volumes, and shril/thin anything below band volume
I think both sound really good and makes me happy that the SD PS sounds pretty good. I do hear a difference but if you would play on a stage the SD PS delivers and you can play a really nice show with it. I like both and it's fun to have both!
That sounds the way a hot rodded guitar should sound!! I’ve been looking at Luxxtone for some time, what’s the body wood and pickup specs of your guitar
Thanks! Mine is Basswood and if I had a choice I would get an Alder body but I love mine. Honestly it's custom shop quality and the neck and frets are impeccable! The Floyd actually stays in tune really well too
Dammm you have some great gear mate. Great playing and tones
Sounds bad ass mate. You got a new fan. Cheers . Johnny 👌
Great tone as usual. Were you using any boost, or effects?
Thanks! Headfirst has internal boosts which I use for the core tone I use the Brite 1, for the solo tone on ch 3 I use a Friedman Golden pearl OD. Hx Fx switches amp channels and provides reverb, slight delay and some chorus on my clean tones
That’s some rocky stuff
That's all we ride up here. No shortage of granite!
I notice there’s a lag when switching functions and channels on the front of the amp, does the same thing happen when switching on the fly using a midi footswitch?
It must have been before I went to snapshot function on my Line 6 HX FX processor. It is midi switch from the HX.
Bumpy!
Killer guitar
@@EddieB2047 Inedeed she is!!
In your estimation, could the Smallbox ch 2 be similarly modded?
@@johnzuker yes, e mail Dave he can do anything
@@cragginshred Indeed, he's a tone wizard.
Yall sound great!!!!! Let me know when you are in Tuolumne Park again! Steve Weldon
Fantastic real world “no influencer bs” review. Greatly appreciated!! Fantastic chops too my man! I want Santa to bring a JEL 20, this Christmas… c’mon Santa! I’m super excited about the great Plexi Channel in this amp. I’m thinking AC/DC crunch on Ch 1, boosted for probably most things like you 😂, then Ch 2 dialed for Leads 🎉! My dilemma would be what speakers, cabinet? Should I go w the JEL 1x12 w the 65W creamback? It’s expensive for what it is…maybe a Marshall Studio 2x12…they have the JTM style one w the creambacks, or maybe type SV20 cab? Thoughts? Another thought is going with the JEL 20 1x12 and then adding a second one later? I’d be playing small clubs so a 1x12 would be good volume wise, but would it cut well with the creamback? I’d be playing in a two guitar band and what if the drummer goes apeshit 😅😂. Lastly have you used it with the DI at all? Did it go well? Thanks and rock on!
Thanks, greenbacks in any good cb is my go to! No DI on that amp, rock on!
Really clear and concise, thank you :)
Great video! Is that cab the BE 4x12? If so, how did you choose it over the other three or so Friedman 4x12s?
Thanks! Yes, but I took the V30's out. All greenbacks. I have a Marshall 4x12 with 1990 Greenbacks that sounds similar but not as full low end -by design. Marshall has that sizzle due to it's design. Both are great and complement each other when used together much to the neighbors chagrin 😵
@@cragginshred How did you choose that Friedman 4x12 over the three other models they sell? I believe all have 2 Greenbacks and 2 V30s, so- was it a better cosmetic match? (I'm in the market for a Friedman 4x12 to pair with Smallbox 50)
Man; that amp sounds killer! That would go good along side my Metropolous MetroPlex MKII.

Nice gear. can't tell anything about the sound or even which amp you are using when. Poor dog.
Bang on Mr one video!
@@cragginshred Lol. Bang on mr genetic fallacy in short pants.🤡
i realize this is a ridiculous question- since each amp sounded good....what did these amps get traded out of your collection for? meaning what did you replace them with?
In this instance I kept the SB instead of the JEL mainly because the Jake ch 2 was not very inspiring. The order of them all coming and going is a blur now
@@cragginshred Makes sense, Now that you said it; that the amp builder model may give more of a tone variety versus a signature amp, thanks for the reply
11:35 it is because you hear the Room and the Box. Mic the amp up and record it and you will hear that the amp sounds total different.
100% disagree. All of the "influencers" who add IR's thru their DAW's color the tone and it will never sound the same when you buy it. You are not wrong that my room has a lot of foam has no natural reverb. However, the point of using the camera on the iphone is that you hear exactly the tone I dial in and ALL the comments agree this is what they want.
Another sweet ride!
thank you for making this video! Really tough to choose but as a Jake E Lee fan and love the red color the JEL seems to be a winner for me. Good to hear the actual in room natural tones of the amps! Love both but the JEL wins for me. 20w is plenty loud for gigs.
Enjoy it!
You boosting any channel ? Sick ass tone. Have you tried mix matching speakers with those evh speakers like v30 0r dv77
Thanks, I have not. I need to buy the amp a 3rd time 😢
Sounds and looks great. I'm interested in one of these, how do you think they compare to something like the current MIM Charvels? It'd be a replacing my Charvel Henrik that I've modified a lot and generally like but I've been really curious about the Luxxtones but can't find one to try...
I cannot try any guitars either. Buy one with a return option. I will add they are 10x better that the mim Charvels -I own a Satchel and the frets suck. The neck on the Luxx is AMAZING!!! The build is 100% custom shop quality
@@cragginshred I feel enabled :-) I bought my Henrik used and overall i really like it, although i've modded it a lot. But have always been curious about CS charvels or something like a Luxxtone or Chubtone.
@@cragginshred Just bought a sweet used El Machette off of Reverb. White, just a tiny bit of relic, H-S setup. Looks awesome, I hope it plays and sounds great too. I have to move my Henrik to help cover.
@@stilllifewithguitar184 I assume you got the Luxxtone by now, so what do you think about it?
@@Echoes- I love it. It's definitely a huge step over any of the import shredders I've tried and feels Fender CS level to me in terms of fit and finish. The neck and fretwork are immaculate and in general it's so well built. Love the pickups although I am swapping the neck single coil out for some kind of humbucker which works better for me stylistically. I sold the Charvel and don't miss it, although I still think it was a great guitar after mods and some fretwork. But the Luxxtone is next level. I'm considering ordering another one (just a single pickup kind of deal) but we'll see...
Too much distortion on both. Id back that gain off quite a bit.
What’s that on the handlebars
hand guards
this or the jj junior? i'm having a hard time deciding
That's a toughish one. The JJ JR has two channels, which is more practical in a gigging situation. But the circuit of the LIttle Sister is Marshall JTM45 based. It has HUGE bass and a more classic tone compared to the JJ JR. The JJ is going to be more JCM800 sounding. I've got a BE50 (JCM800) and a DS Mini (JTM45) and a Twin Sister (JTM45). Just for a frame of reference, I keep the bass on the BE at about 8 or more. I keep the bass on the other amps around 4 or lower and it's still big beautiful tight bass. I LOVE the BE50. I think I LOVE the other two amps EVEN MORE. You can't go wrong with these amps!
Which do like better between the PT and the JJ Junior?
You should lower your stem stack...probably why your having such a hard time. Has to be one of the highest stacks I've ever seen!
@@williamfried3107 probably just the angle of the camera on my chest should’ve been up a little more.
