At 46 it is just now dawning on me that I have ADHD, after a lifetime of struggling with clutter, doom piles, lack of organization. What your guest had to say about her career and how organized she has been in a her professional life resonates. At the same time, I am known for being stellar at organizing, frequently have been in charge of complex projects and organizing tasks in my career and community activities. I think a lot of people like myself, whether they are officially diagnosed with ADHD or not, suffer from shame and extreme feelings of imposture syndrome -like I am so accomplished, I am so on top of things in these other arenas of my life, but my house is a mess and my stuff is controlling me! Honestly making this connection between my behaviors and how ADHD can present itself is a huge relief, like some of that imposture syndrome baggage has been lifted phew!

Yeah everything is urgent, important, do now etc The reason why we leave things to the last minute is because of the dopamine rush we need to be motivated. I can (didn’t say I do, just said I can 🤔😁) follow organisational procedures if they’re already in place but I have no clue how create an organisational structure/system for myself

13:53 having a firm important deadline is me right now 😆 I’m moving halfway across the country and we are trying to do it as cost effective as possible and I’ve been decluttering like CRAZY, my husband is so proud of me 🥹 I got rid of three 30 gallon garbage bags full of clothes, and I’ve gotten rid of probably an equivalent of 8 additional garbage bags filled with either trash/junk that I’ve been hoarding or things I haven’t used in over a year 🥹 we are moving at the end of January so we have about a month and I’m actually excited to be starting new, especially since this move I am correctly diagnosed and medicated so getting focused is much easier than our previous move over a year ago 🎉

I didn’t even know someone like you existed, but it makes me feel so glad you do, and you’re helping others learn how to help their adhd clients and handle them with care. Kudos.

This was so refreshing and a very welcome conversation for me because with social media more often projecting the impression that aesthetics content trumps functionality, it helps to know that I can actually follow the path of function over beauty that I align with in learning to build an organizing business
