That looks slick, my only concern would be if I hit something on the river would the rig be restricted from bouncing up, what does the you-tube community think?
The way the actuator is rigged up, it can always get lifted up and picked up out of the water but doesnt go down any further unless you push the switch down.
Is it still working a year later?
I'm looking at one of these. I have an 80 lb dog. How would the back be for him?

Is the actuator connected at both ends? Or is it free floating on the back? I don’t get how it can pop up while being connected to the motor at both ends, the distance gets greater.
The only thing I can see that I don't like about this, is that if you hit a tree stump or something in the ground the motor can't "pop up" out of the water like it's designed to
Yes, if you hit something the motor will still pop up and over anything.. The actuator can always go out but won’t allow it to compress any further inward than what you have it set at. That’s the whole point of it .
gotcha that makes more sense so it's the same design as mud skipper did where it just rests on the pivot shaft for the motor @@aarondixon1

I have the same boat and like your longtail setup. Seems like the best option for my needs. I need to move my 15 HP Johnson ( barely used) got it from a Summer Camp for kids near me. The Mudd Moter is what I need to explore some of the creeks and water ways near me. Great video ! Appreciate the sharing of your project!

Can the motor still kick up if u hit something with it
Yes!, the motor can always kick up even with the tilt and trim set at a certain position. But it can’t go get pushed down once it’s set to a position unless u drop it all the way down with the switch
Nice setup I have Two a Go-devil Long Tail 27 hp. and a Copper Head Surface Drive 23 hp. I would like to put something like this on my Surface Drive. Thanks enjoyed it.

So, are you using a 12v linear controller, or do you just have the actuator hooked straight to the battery via the toggle switch? I have ordered 2 actuators now and have tried just touching them to a battery and neither one will do anything.
Actuator is hooked to my 12 v battery as well as a toggle switch with on off on. I was able to touch my actuator straight to a battery and it show movement so I’m not sure why yours is not
I have the twister with 22hp on it and this will help so much. I hate having to adjust the trim bolt that on it. Thank you for the video its greatly appreciated.

Thank you for this!! I have already started getting my twister ready for the actuator. One question though, can you still tilt the entire motor back if you are about to hit something, or will it only move with the actuator?
Good question!. Yes, I’ve had to lift over many logs. The motor will still lift out of water with the actuator set in its position but you can’t push the prop down any further in the water then what the actuator is set to .

I was thinking about making a pin to disconnect it for running through rough stuff.
Also they make a twist throttle for mini bikes that might fit that setup

As a matter of fact I did lol. It’s got a completely different trim til setup now though. The one it had on it when I bought it didn’t work

What model linear actuator on the mud motor? Have a link? Would be interested in seeing that setup up close. Been looking at doing something similar on my 16hp twister
