Are the Smart Devices We Use Really Secure?
Sonos devices, popular smart speakers for seamless music streaming, were recently found to have serious security vulnerabilities. Researchers Robert Herrera and Alex Plaskett from NCC Group revealed flaws in Wi-Fi and Secure Boot functions, exposing weak points that attackers could exploit.
As Alex Plaskett explains, “Hardware vulnerabilities are as critical as software vulnerabilities. Attackers will always go for the weakest link.”
Many devices still lack basic protections, like securing debug interfaces or validating inputs, leaving them open to attack. Both Herrera and Plaskett stress the need for a holistic security approach-securing both hardware and software to stay ahead of threats.
