Great Video!! It was very useful considering I'll be taking the course in a few months... I just have a question...since it was formerly known as certificate of English language teaching for adults... are the classes focused on adult students? Do you get to teach adults in the teaching practice or children/teenagers?

Hi. I know this is a year late but for anyone else who comes across this, no. At least not at present. All you need is to be 18+ years old and be qualified to enter into higher education. The center you're applying to should have that kind of information on their official website.

Is the CELTA even more stressful if you don't have any prior teaching experience? Or would it be the same as any other TEFL course in that regard? I am graduating college this December with my B.A. in Spanish, I have a very small amount of prior teaching experience just with volunteering to help with some English language learning groups. I want to teach English abroad but I'm trying to determine whether CELTA would be too overwhelming for me given my amount of experience

Hi poppy I started celta last week at Leicester uni. Had my 1st 20 min lesson, which i dont think went well I ran out of material as i was doing a topic on compound adjectives with another person who went before me and he said all the points which left me with not alot to say or do. I was the last to teach out of 5 who went before me in the same class but by the time i came on stage to teach i found the students all drain out and not responsive at all. I tried to engage the class with a joke and pic particular students to answer questions but i got not much from them. In the end i was done in 11mins. I have taught secondary IT before and i thought i would do better, how wrong I was. I feel awful as students who haven't taught before i felt did better than me. Any advice? Thanks Shaz

So my aunt saw the course online last week. I never really researched much or at all even. I just applied and I recently received my acceptance. My course begins next week. From all the information I’ve found, It’s apparently going to be very intensive. I’m dyslexic and my spellings are a bit messy. Other than that I’m not worried. But the constant use of the word “intensive” is something I find daunting. I haven’t left myself any prep time, as such. Just this week!😰 So I wanted to ask, what was it like to cope with the workload and actually be happy with what you’re putting out during submissions? Also, thank you for sharing your experience.

Hi Poppy, I did a Celta course myself last February (I also got a pass only! :); I agree with everything you say about the Celta course in your video. Only one exception: getting help from instructors outside the classroom. We only had two instructors as it was a small group. On the second or third day I approached the head instructor (a Victorian lady almost in her seventies) after class to get some help about something I didn’t quite understand; she looked at me really offended with a face expression saying that she thought I was retarded or something. It was without saying that I didn’t try to get any help outside the classroom ever again during the course. It would have been SO much easier I could have approached instructors a few times. I guess this varies from center to center. All the best,

How did it go for you? Everyone keeps saying it’s super intense but I wish there were more specifics about what aspects felt intense and why. I’m that annoying person who felt college was easy and so I am hoping I will at least be able to sleep 8 hours a night and exercise regularly during my CELTA.

    • @poppyinitaly4508
      @poppyinitaly4508 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Honestly, university/college was less intense... I would say because the problem with CELTA is the time constraints. I barely had time to sleep and I was in lectures or teaching all day so the assignments took up all my spare time! It's a lot but it's only a short amount of time, I'm sure you can do it! Plus working out will help with the stress etc. Good luck!

Did you take a laptop/notebook with you? If yes, is it indispensable?

OMG I’m so sorry I just saw this! I was lucky enough to be in a school where I had access to a computer. But yes I took my laptop and I used it quite a lot honestly!

Thanks for the awesome video. I'm going to take the intensive CELTA course at International House in Cape Town in January, and I was thinking that I was going to be able to explore the city in the evenings after the course...you crushed my plans hahaha. There isn't time for fun not even during the weekends?

Hi thanks for watching. I honestly felt like I was busy a lot but yes I had some time to hang out with my friends. Procrastination was my worst enemy, as Nike says “just do it” haha. That way you’ll have time at the end of the day to explore! Hope that helps and good luck!

Yeah, you will probably want to have some time after the course to check out the city! Boa sorte, Tiago :)

Cape town is such a beautiful place, i was also initially planning to take my celta there but my family was vehemently opposed to it, and a compromise was reached that i would take it in British Council, Mumbai....but yeah answering your question i think you will be stuck with assignments on weekends !!

Thank you for the tips. Much appreciated. Kindly advise on which other grammar books to consider apart from the one you have.

Thanx for sharing your experience. Could you recommend some books to read before doing the CELTA course? I'm planing to take the course in autumn this year and trying to do maximum to make it less stressful.

Здравствуйте Елена. Расскажите по подробнее о вашем CELTA-опыте. Какие книги для подготовки вам в итоге удалось найти? Что из этого оказалось нужным, а что нет. Буду очень благодарен за ответ.

"TOH" and "TIE'" they both mean "take" or "hold" or "grab" . They are both used all over Italy but "toh" I believe is more common in the Centre and North. Depending on the tone you use while saying toh or tie' they could be intended as rude words

Oh no! 🤦‍♀️ I hope I didn’t say them in a rude way!!! Thanks for the info I’ll definitely be careful haha!! 🤣

I applied for the CELTA course in London and got offered a place and then pulled out. The idea of standing in front of 12 trainee teachers and your class and teacher just caused me so much stress. I couldn't sleep for a week after being offered a place. I think its absolutely ridiculous that in order to teach English you need to be in front of all your colleagues, just your tutor and class is fair enough. But really? It just seems way over the top a sort of typical Oxford Cambridge thing. Not even UK teacher trainers are expected to have all their colleagues scrutinising their every move while teaching.

Hi Joe thanks for your comment! Honestly it’s stressful at first but it becomes second nature! I think it taught me a lot about being self confident! I wouldn’t let that put you off, if you really want to teach you should go for it! Everyone is on a learning curve on that course :)

I would love the idea of being able to teach in Thailand and move around to Rome or anywhere. I haven't PGCE but I know I would struggle with having anxiety of being in social situations and self conscious about correct grammar etc and not just not gonna put myself through that. All the best with your career!
