    For my taste, you played No 1. way too fast.You are on the upper edge of andante (over 100bpm?), with a hard to follow rubato, because of the speed. TH-cam allows to adjust the playback speed, which i changed to 0.75. It feels completely different. Is there a reason, why you chose that tempo on No 1? Edit: Ok, moderato is the keyword :). Never mind.

    I have heard Johanna Hanikova's Emperor many times over, and compared it to other fine interpretations by major women pianists, namely Guimar Novaes, Martha Argerich, Idil Biret, Ikuyo Nakamichi, Shoko Sugitani, Hélène Grimaud, Angela Hewitt, and Maria Yudina. Ms Hanikova's interpretation is, in my view, better than any of the others (despite her tempo in the slow movement being a little quicker than I like). This is one of the most magnificent interpretations EVER of the Emperor Concerto, and I have heard more than seventy. Rukun Advani, Publisher, Himalayas, India.

      Better than renderings by any pianist, female or male? But no, I admire Hélène Grimaud and Khatia Buniatishvili. And not to forget: The conductor (either male or female)decides general "emotional atmosphere". THIS conductor I think already worn out, very"standard" and pale.

    • @permanentblack9014
      @permanentblack9014 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Nogah100 I am happy to enthusiastically disagree with you! Clearly, we listen with different ears. The orchestra and conductor may be little known but they understand the spirit of the concerto perfectly and are highly expressive; moreover, the chemistry of Ms Haniková with Monsieur Klánsky is excellent even if you listen with your eyes closed. At some point in her career I hope Ms Haniková will perform her brilliant interpretation with the Berlin or New York or Vienna Philharmonic -- but will by then have realised that the slow movement needs a more reflective tempo to draw out its melodic poignance.

    I prefer the Bernstein American approach to all of Beethoven. Bernstein was a Beethoven scholar. A performance scholar. And the soloist who played with any orchestra which Bernstein was conducting elevated their performance to his dominance and excellence.

    She should listen to Yuja Wang playing this concert more likely she would be embarrassed to call her play anything but slow low quality waste of time. I know students in high school music school played better than her.

      The execution of Yuja Wang is the play of a typewriter, hard, mechanical and no soul.To be a good player is not all, you must be an iterpreter, as johanna is.

    Johanna Hanikova's performances, whether as soloist, in duet, or with orchestra, all share the same devotion to the vision of the compositions, the meaning of the moment, and the experience of her audiences, whether large or small. I believe she would deliver the same level of artistry even if her audience was just one person. Thank you, Johanna. Would like to note also my appreciation for the elegance, grace, and modesty of your attire. Unlike some other pianiste of today, you always show respect for yourself and your audience in demeanor and in choice of gowns. There are too many performers who place themselves between the music and the audience, but you consistently reach the purity of a selfless service to the best that music can offer. All the best to you.

      Have listened to this performance several times in consideration of the critique made by the first commenter. With regard to the use of the sustain pedal, i have a different conclusion. Johanna’s use of pedal has never been a problem in any of her other recordings that i have listened to thus far, so i look elsewhere for the cause of an issue. I was initially wondering if the problem with overtones seeming to reverberate in a way that makes the piano seem out of tune in the middle register had to do with the piano and/or its prep. However, the richness and clarity of the lower strings makes me think that the piano is not the issue, nor the tuning. The cause is most likely the placement of the microphone, as well as its type. This is compounded by the nature of the venue and with the piano right up against the back wall. A definite tell as to the seeming messy sound at points as being with the recording equipment and/or its setup is when the audience applauds at the close, their applause has a harsh and slightly distorted overall sound. Johanna’s use of pedal is fine and not the source of the issue. As to the criticism made toward interpretation of the middle section, i think it is a matter of preference. I like the way she expresses each section, yet i have heard different approaches to the intermezzo and like those as well. To conclude, if the issue was with Johanna’s use of pedal, then this would be showing up in her other recordings, and as far as i have heard, it does not. And lastly, lowering the lid in that particular room might have helped the recording equipment to handle the strength of the sounds. Johanna lowers the lid when accompanying other artists in duet or quartet and it works perfectly. This note is long but please remember that the distorted and harsh sound of the applause at the end of the recording points to the recording equipment and/or it’s setup for that room.
