South African Adverts Early & Mid Nineties
Was capturing some old home movies from VHS & came across some old programs recorded from SABC 1 & 3. The first lot I estimate is from about 93 & the second half are probably from 96 based on the Musica advert where the year is mentioned. The nostalgic amongst us will enjoy.

I think both drivers carry a bit of blame. The ute had enough time to stop when the light went orange & the car turning, assumed the ute would stop. At the time it looked like the ute had gone through on red, but he just made it.

    Ads back in the 90's seemed so cheesy but warm at the same time. Wow, miss those days life was simple.

  • @jn8922

    The quality of the ads was so different. They were clever and memorable. You can see how values changed in South Africa. The ads these days are more narcisstic, less humorous and they don't focus on family values - they rarely tell stories we can relate to.

    Watching these ads one will think only white people lived in South Africa. I don’t miss the old South Africa. Voetsak apartheid.

    • @fuwa9616

      The Afrikaners are the inhabitants of the country, and they were the majority in cities. It has nothing to do with that policy. It is their nation.

    Hmm. Odd times. 90% white people in these adverts in a country of 80% black people. Go figure.

    • @fuwa9616

      Do you talk about how odd it is that 100% white people in a country of 80% black people could invent the nuclear weapons and then dismantled the moment power was gonna be transferred to those same people?

    • @fuwa9616

      There is nothing odd about it. Afrikaans built the nation, founded the tv, ad industry, and financed it themselves, so of course it will predominately feature them. Meanwhile, the other people did not have the intellect to do this, and that is true even in the USA, so now, they have to be forcefully placed there, not by their own skill.

    • @fuwa9616

      Also, when the separation policy was in placed, ads company also had to hire Africans even the television commercials were separated. When the policy ended, there was no need to do this. Hence why 90s commercial look like that.

      matthewtrow5698, comments denying the role of genetics are terrible. Its honestly criminal that matthewtrow5698 has a right to say that. No, being the same people as the ones you are criticizing doesn't make the criticism true.

    i miss the 90's. there was a sense after 94 and especially the 95 Rugby World Cup that we might actually get our shit together and create a none divided SA but i would say after Madiba handed things over to Mbeki things started to crumble and then broke and put us on this course we're stuck on now when he got replaced by the Ninja Turtle who started playing on division again to shift blame for his poor leadership and get the anger votes. for a while there in the mid to late 90s things were looking bright and inclusive though. shame when you think what could have been....
