Absolutely incredible story. How guys like this made it through all those close calls we'll never understand. I want to read the book Rock of Anzio that he was showing but I can't find anywhere that has it. My grandfather was in the 45th and am always trying to learn more since he died many years before I was born. I'll have to look into this guy's book as well.

I read the panzer killers some years ago. Rose was a no nonsense lead from the front kind of General. “See and be seen” and “Send a bullet, not the man”. His helmet was on display at the Patton Museum when I was at Fort Knox attending Armor Officer Basic Course. I had no idea who this guy was. Glad I read the book. Great presentation.

For all the Army, Navy and Air-Force, men + ladies, who prepared for and fought in, even with sacrifice of their own lifes, the big Overlord operation (D-Day) our, all and best, respect! Let us say: Honours, be, for all, of them! For all, who, already in the eternity or still alived, gave admirable and nice examples (we must never forget) let us pray to be never forgotten by God and His blessings, for all of them! All were finaly, forever, like God soldiers and started the invitation for Europe all people build a life with no tyranny nazi, in peace and for the democracy (always giving hands like brothers)! D-Day, was, is and will be - forever - a remarkable and unforgetable date! Here, just a portuguese and christian family, in Portugal. Respectfully. L+E

Yes sir! My father, who was a combat medic, loved General Truscott. One time on Sicily, dad stopped to bandage a civilian’s leg, knowing that he would have to run to catch back up to his men. He was hurrying with the wound and looked up into the smiling face of General Truscott who was back down the trail. The General complimented him for caring about the civilian and told him to take his time, his company had fallen out to rest just around the bend. Those men learned the Truscott trot! 120 steps per minute, 4 miles per hour for 20 miles. Amazing what Truscott built the 3rd Infantry Division into. Later on the commanding General was Iron Mike O’Daniel. Dad adored him even more than Truscott because he was around Iron Mike more. Even patched up his shoulder once when an 88 hit the building they were standing by and a brick came down on the Generals shoulder.
