Gippslander Weekender | R711s first run to Bairnsdale!
Hello and welcome or welcome back to K163Productions.
In this video, we see 2 steam trains race its way to Bairnsdale. On the 12/10/24, Steam locomotive R761 ran a rare goods train that was very common back in the 40s - 60s. Race its way to Bairnsdale on a transfer train, joining the main consist running back to Melbourne as a Double header consist for its way back to Melbourne. On Sunday, 13/9/24, we saw steam locomotive R711 lead the main consist to Bairnsdale, this was the first time in history R711 ran to Bairnsdale ever.

Pretty good video and also good credit for others involved interesting about guy at Dandenong Metro staff getting in the way of the camera the first one's to complain about you during that but when they do it nothing is said anyway good footage

Damn, maybe next year! I uploaded this video quick because I wasn’t bothered to chase it up to Bairnsdale. (I couldn’t if i wanted to) and it will be too late to go out at 9pm to see it return, so yeah. That why I posted it early haha.

It was pulling an electric train, the steam train went on the consist for more attention and its 50th anniversary.
Why is it pushed by a locomotive
The K class was on there for more attention. Aswell as its 50th anniversary as its first run went on the Lilydale line.
Where was this?
Between Maddox Road Level crossing and Newport Station.

Definitely not something I would consider 'rare' as such, but it was an uncommon sight to see.

Where was the consist being turned around?? I'm assuming it wasn't the Totty triangle and it can't have been the loop.
Tottenham Triangle is an electrified for these trains. The train terminated at Flinders Street & Showgrounds.
