Hi captain, I am Riadh from Tunisia south of Africa, I’m specialist Hull, I can help you to do anything ,for more information: m.facebook.com/207482870174128
I replaced the main beam and the stringers in a 17' tri-hull. I never '"foamed it" between the stringers before getting rid of it ($). And still wonder as a first timer, how much more rigid would it have been ? And how much safer is it to have. Finally, old timer told me not to spend so much money on marine plywood. And just use pressure treated wood that has completely dried. And glass the crap out of everything. It was a 30 yr old fish/ski boat. "Good nuff" he said. Was he full of it ? Or am I still a dumbass ? Or both ?
Wow looks fantastic, I have also learned how itchy grinding fibre glass is. Dead weight in a boat sucks best thing you could do was remove all that foam. Nice vid.
You screwed yer self and the integrity of the boat when you did not glass the stringer to the hull all that wood under the floor has to be coated in glass or it will rot out. From underneath. Not to mention yer hull has no strength because the stringer is just siting on the hull they are not laminated to the hull
Hi there , yes i know and it has been coated with epoxy resin and then glued with "IJssel Variobond" to the hull , that's why we put cement blocks on the deck to put some pressure on it to get full contact. the part before the cement blocks is where we placed everything not glued to see if it all fits ... th-cam.com/video/xQS8BGIrssw/w-d-xo.html The reason why its not in the pics is because i edited the montage 6 months after the start of the project and i must have missed or accidentally erased the footage of that part . Anyway tnx for your input. Greets.
exactly what i was going to say. we have just finished two wilson flyer boat floors where all the stringers and floor were rotted out. we coated every piece of wood and underside of ply with resin before replacing floor and bonded stringers to the floor.
Keep grinding , you will be enjoying your "new" and improved boat in no time ... and don't forget to take pics so you can show me when you are finished .
Great job lads. You should be proud of yourselves. I only stumbled on the vid as I'm thinking of buying a 13 ft Dory, you've definitely educated me on what to look out for.
my god that's some going for a 1st time I would of sold it on lol well done guys how much did that lot set you back? been thinking of buying a dory dell quay 15 but after reading up on the probs with soaked foam its really put me off :(
Good on you guys for having a go. Big job but worth it in the end. Good work. Now go enjoy. Check out the boat I built for myself on my vids... I was a first timer too.
Very nice work, I've put mine first Dory to the graveyard. Did buy a other one and have lots of fun with it. PS I've a cover for the front storage compartment for you???
Nice work! I’m considering buying one of these any tips what to look for / avoid? Is it easy to check if the foams saturated? Thanks 👍
Great work. I've got an 11 ft Dell Quay that is full of water in the foam. Did you add more foam or skip that altogether? Great video mates!
Thank you , we did not add any foam . An alternative for the foam could be some closed empty plastic bottles ;)
Brilliant! I watch hundreds of videos and rarely ever comment, but damn son! You boys nailed it!
What sort of ply did you use in the transom
2 x concrete slabs glued together
@@rave2mars thanks for the reply I'll need to get the concrete lorry out to sort my dory out
@@rave2mars concrete?!?!??!! Lol wtf its going to crack little by little
conrete ply 2 x 1.8 mm , its not water absorband.
