Tarsha Homestead
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 16 มิ.ย. 2020
Tarsha Homestead is a place for us (Alex and Emily Tarsha) to share videos of our interesting projects around the "homestead."
We live on 6 acres in Southern Illinois where we raise our two kids, our Black Lab Josie, our Retriever Nick, our barn cats Jazz and Jinx, our 40 something hens, 4 goats, a pig, multiple bee colonies, 2 kune-kune pigs, 3 american mini/juliana pigs and our garden. Alex enjoys woodworking, building things, tinkering in his shop, playing with his tractor, improving the yard and gardening. Emily enjoys crafting cute projects out of wood and fabric and spends most of her time sewing and embroidering things for her Etsy stores.

Farmall F-14 Valve Adjustment
This video is a little different from our typical video. Someone online requested I show how to do the valve adjustment on our 1938 Farmall F-14 that I am restoring. This video shows how I did it, following the procedure and specs in the owner’s manual.

Bottling Honey With the Maxant Bottling Tank
มุมมอง 1.5Kปีที่แล้ว
We have done previous videos of us bottling honey with buckets and honey gates, but we upgraded to the 25 gallon @MaxantHoney bottling tank this year and wanted to do a brief video showing how much better it works. We can bottle way more honey in way less time.
Rescuing An Old Pole Barn (Part 5: Drainage Issues)
มุมมอง 235ปีที่แล้ว
Alex works to raise the sunken side, and replace the rotten posts on this 50 year old pole barn on their new property. The pole barn had a tree fall on it decades ago and it has been deteriorating since. Alex and Emily hope to restore it and repurpose it as a livestock barn for spring goats! In Part 5, Alex trenches and installs a french drain, lays down ag lime, and introduces the newest lives...

Thank you for the video. I have been searching for exactly this build. I have about 20 sheets of that metal decking and wanted to make this same door. Sub'd!
Great series! Unsure why your channel doesn't have more views!?
Nice workshop, enjoyed the tour!
I saw a guy squeegee urethane on a raw wood floor ...worked fast n great imo...went in all the cracks n settled smooth
Awesome floor...endgrains r so tuff it doesnt matter if its pine...i wonder wut it would look like using different sizes of lumber..2x6,2x10 etc....that way a person could source short cutoofs from building sites at no cost..except a few coffees n donuts for framers maybe.😊
The floor looks beautiful! What kind of wood did you use?
Thank you for the inspiration! I'm going to try this & use an epoxy topcoat.
I’d love to hear how it goes!
Awesome work
any videos about how you made that wall?
Do you mean the wall on the exterior of the bathroom? No I don’t but it’s remarkably simple. I just broke down a bunch of pallets then nailed the pallet wood to the wall in an alternating fashion.
Great setup! Can tell you are a professional with quality product.
I’m thinking of doing the cabin floor this way. Wondering if the tile adhesive would hold up to cold weather no heat over winter. No one would be walking on it at that time.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t.
I love this going try this
how is it now after time?
We have moved since then, but last I spoke to the new homeowners it was still goin’ strong!
$80 bucks!? At the height of crazy wood costs?? My god, what a steal.
What kind of adhesive?
The exact adhesive is linked in the description to make it easier 👍
The floor work you and your wife did is very, very amazing and beautiful and precise. I wanted to ask you what material you use to seal your shower from water. I would very much appreciate it if you could write me the name of the material and also the type of sealer you apply on top of the pieces of wood. Thank you very much
Love that your doing a pumpkin patch!😊
It’s been a ton of fun!
The Bob Ross of Farming!
Love the drone footage.
Thanks pal! I need to get some more experience with it.
Looks great. Not sure I would do it in a bathroom though. End grain absorbs moisture much more than face or edge grain.
I want to hear more about the disc sander. That thing looks nice.
If you think that’s interesting, you should meet the guy I got it from!
Keep up the good work it’s come along way. It looks amazing.
Thank you my friend! I have big dreams for this space!
What an awesome combination of maker's playground, a nice WFH setup, plus a blank canvas to keep building & settling into--amazing progress so far, well done!
Thanks for checking it out and for the kind words! I appreciate it!
Excellent walk trough! The shop looks great.
Thanks amigo! Excited to make more headway.
Love this look! I need to figure out a project I can use it on.
This came out great. Do you think it could be done with 4x6's? That way they would be more brick sized and fewer pieces.
I would imagine so. I don’t have any more experience than what we did in the video but it would make sense to me.
Thanks for your prompt reply!
@@galesgoats you bet!
This is a fantastic idea for me! I've been wracking my brain on how I could some wood flooring on the cheap and this is the ticket I've been looking for!
How is the floor holding up after 3 years? Would you do anything differently?
I would also know
I'd like to know as well
Last I spoke to the new homeowners it was still doing fine. It’s probably been 6 months since I’ve talked to them.
You need more subs ❤❤
Totally rad dude! A bit extravagant and time consuming for a shop though.
Thanks! It was worth the time to my wife and I, and that’s all that matters to me.
Hey, Alex & Emily! I just found you guys through Sue at Get to the Farm. What a great store you have! I just started checking out your videos and subscribed. I see you do some embroidery, do you see a lot of demand for it? I've been interested in doing some of that as well. Looking forward to some good content! -Dusty
Oh Hey! Thanks for being here! Emily does a lot of embroidery, but we have been really bad about making videos. It’s slowed down lately as we haven’t had our store open regularly through winter, but it’s typically a good producer!
@@TarshaHomestead Awesome, thanks for the info. The video aspect of it is essentially another job added on top of the rest, isn't it? Best wishes for a blessed season!
How is it going 3 years now?
We no longer live at that home, but last I spoke to the folks who bought it, it was doing fine.
This is perfect! We're gonna put it in our next issue. A lot of people can benefit from this! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all this. Personally, I have always wanted to have a beehive or two.
Great Video! I am in the market for a bottling tank myself… debating on this and the one from Hillco. Question for you… where do you get your labels from? Thanks in advance
Thank you! I like HillCo, and for many things, they get my money. John Hill is doing admirable things, BUT, a bottling tank is designed to have honey sitting in it for extended periods, and for that reason I wanted American made for that one item. The extractor, uncapping tank, etc have honey pass through relatively quickly so I’m happy to save money on equipment shipped in from mass producers overseas, and I have been very happy with them too. So you didn’t ask, but that’s my personal take on why I have HillCo everything and then a Maxant bottling tank. The labels I designed in Photoshop using the template provided by Vistaprint to get it the right dimensions, then they printed and sent them out 👍
@@TarshaHomestead I appreciate your honesty and feedback with regards to the bottling tank and need to take that into consideration. I do have the extractor from Hillco and absolutely love it and highly recommend it…. Thanks letting me know where you get your labels made from… will have to dust off my PS skills and make a design….also debating about starting a new bee video channel :)
@@GrillingNetwork it wasn’t too tough. Go size your stickers and then download the appropriate template psd file from vistaprint first. That made it easy to get things aligned and within the bleed area. Random: I just subbed. I’m not a skilled cook, grill or otherwise, but hope to convert a retired grain bin on our property to a grill/smoker/griddle gazebo this year, and it will be time to learn my way around.
Hi Alex! New sub! Great build! We use to have NDs now we have Nubian/lamancha cross. Great video--lacy 🤓
Hey Lacy! Thanks! Never ending learning for sure!
Is 1/2” good enough or would you change it to thicker? I worry about the wood breaking. Thanks for your video and instructions!!!
1/2” was plenty for us going down on concrete. If we were going onto wood where it could move, maybe that would be different, but I’m not sure.
Oh! You’re wearing a Utah shirt. We’re in Saratoga Springs. My wife and I are studying to do exactly this type of floor.
@@JimJepsonthat’s awesome. We lived in Jacob’s Ranch in Saratoga, right behind the Maverik and the Fire Dept. for 4 years. We now live in Illinois.
Nice station. Nicely done. I’m working on one myself. Similar to yours. Did you get yourself a track saw yet for breaking down those sheet goods?
I did, just a month or a two back, and what a game changer. I have actually moved since this shop and I have not built a new station in my new shop yet. I’m not yet sure what I want. One thing I no longer like from the station in this video is the fence. Rarely is wood already straight and it would causing binding.
Yes, bought a track saw a couple months ago and now I can do preliminary and accurate sheet breakdown in my garage. I agree that the fence idea is not good if cutting bowed boards. I elected to install a t-track in my top inline with the saw. It will also give me better room on the bench as I plan to put cabinets above the surface instead of on it. Have fun building your next station! Cheers! @@TarshaHomestead
🍻 pal! I think your approach with regard to the fence and the uppers is how I will do my next. Not that this station wasn’t great for me for many years but you live it for awhile and you learn from it. Always improving!
It’s been 3 years! How is the floor holding up? Any shifting shrinking or swelling going on? Thinking about doing this, thanks!
We moved away last year and they were still great. Hard to say if they have held up, but I’m betting they’re still good to go. The new owners reach out to us from time to time and haven’t said anything.
Oh boy. I see and end grain backsplash in my future. Why settle for tiles?
That sounds amazing!
hi how old is the boar in this video?
I don’t recall exactly. A few months, I think.
METH... get shit DONE!!!
How dry should the wood be?
I’m sure this matters, but I legitimately used whatever scraps we had around with very little consideration to that. I think the biggest concern would be shrinkage as it dries, and expansion in more humid years. That said, we gave it no thought and had no issues.
I'm thinking bout doing this in my den kitchen and master bedroom but sand with them electric drywall sanders
A standup floor sander rental could be good too. We moved away from this home a couple years ago, but I didn’t do a super thorough sanding and they still looked great.
Well I'm gunna get them as level as possible before install so that drywall Sander be all I need. We are doing a diy budget thing here ya know 😂😂😂
Is the floor straight?
Yes It is
@@TarshaHomestead thanks looking into creating the same but with 6 x 6 squares
@@milynciaedits that would sure make it go a lot faster!
This is fantastic. I enjoyed watching this video.
Very interesting. Great idea on how to re-fill up the pond.
New subscriber here. Came here from Get on the Farm. Cute goats. Great job, keep up the great work. Thank you so much for sharing.
Alex you are the GOAT and I’m not kidding. Great video!
Thanks pal! I need to be more consistent, but I’m enjoying casually making videos here and there.
Great Job
