Ambient Jam with Vermona Perfourmer and Torso T-1
Tough week. Nothing like a sick dog to remind you of what matters. (She's doing better now, thank goodness.) I was feeling a bit stressed and needed some focus time so called up some of my favorites and decided to learn the Torso T-1 a bit better - still a long way to go on that one but it's fun to experiment with for sure.
Here's rundown:
The Torso T-1 is sequencing the Vermona PerFourMer via midi, as well as sending midi clock via the Chase Bliss MidiBox to both the Chase Bliss Thermae and Strymon Dig. Audio from the PerFourMer is running first to the Elektron Analog Heat MKII to pick up some saturation, then into an effects chain comprising the Chase Bliss Thermae, Strymon Dig, Eventide Space and finally to the Styrmon Deco for tape compression. Then recorded directly into Ableton.
Thanks for watching! (And if it's not too presumptuous to offer a bit of unsolicited advice, I would recommend getting up immediately to hug your loved one, friend, pet, whatever - take the opportunity.)

Groovy ambient jam with Moog Labyrinth, Elektron Syntakt, Prophet Rev2 and Dreadbox Typhon
มุมมอง 8024 หลายเดือนก่อน
Finally got my new studio space up and running, with a new project workbench for impromptu jams. This one's a bit of an exploration of the Moog Labyrinth as a stochastic bass generator, with the Syntakt providing master clock and sequencing the Rev2 (as well as providing percussion arps and melodies). The Rev2 is picking up some vibrato and reverb via the Vongon Ultrasheer. All are mixed into a...

A melodic mid-tempo jam on a sunny Saturday. The Elektron Analog Four is sequencing both the Dreadbox Typhon and the Roland JU-06A via midi. The Typhon is relying on its fantastic onboard effects whereas the JU-06A is picking up delay and reverb via the Korg NTS-1. The mk2 bass boost sounds artificial if you compare it to the higher notes. I reallly would like to know what they have done. It is like eqing. On the mk1 you hear from the high to theblow notes that this it how it is. The bass feels natural from the bass amount, comparing it to the high notes. None the less the bass boos is very usefull. I often miss low end on the 4. it is just lacking.

    • @medardfischer
      @medardfischer 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! Yeah, I’d be interested to know how they achieved the tweak to bass presence. As you say, it definitely could be some EQ or saturation or something, rather than a change to the oscillators themselves (which sound identical to my ears at higher frequencies). And I agree it’s generally hard to make deep bass tones with the A4. I find that I get the best results setting the second filter in high pass mode with a good bit of resonance and cutoff somewhere around the 80-200hz range.

      I do miss the smaller overall size of the MK1s. It would’ve been nice to keep everything uniform across the range. But I actually really like the slightly angled interface of the MK2s. Makes it easier to use them sitting down.

      @@medardfischer just out of virtuosity, have you run into issues using the M32 assignable output into the TR-06 trigger in? My M32 sends out a pulse 4 times faster than the sequencers tempo for some reason. Even if the assignable output is set to clock divide /4.

      @medardfischer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrHihowryou Hi there - Thanks for watching! I've not noticed that, actually, but come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever used the M32 to send clock to anything other than other Moog semi-modular units. I typically do the reverse, using other stuff (in this case the TR-06) to trigger the Moog units. I'll have to give it a try and see if I experience the same issue.

    can you trigger the sequencer/arp in the sh01a from the tr06? like having the kick hits trigger the next sound in the sequence, etc?

    • @medardfischer
      @medardfischer ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The SH-01A has a trigger input that advances the sequence by a step and sets the clock for the arp. The TR-06 has five trigger outs (BD, SD, LT, HT, AC) so you can use any of those to advance the SH-01A sequence/clock. Can result in some very interesting syncopation.

Yeah, I must admit that when the boutiques were first announced I was a bit hesitant on them, but I’ve come to really love them (particularly these three). The fact that each of them includes an onboard sequencer and the generous number of trigger outs on the TR-06 makes it super fun to jam with them like this. What I really want now is a boutique style multi effects unit with a few independent channels of input/output (like a mini patchbay). That would basically complete the set for me.

    Very interesting demonstration. The slight improvements on bass and overdrive departments can be easily appreciated here. Besides that, the mk2 has OLED and better ergonomics. However, from my perspective, having a mk1 since 5 years as central piece of my set up, I would upgrade to mk2 only for the individual outputs of the four tracks, which on the mk1 is a very big miss in my opinion.

      Thanks very much for watching! Yep, I completely agree that this demo shows just how good the MKI holds up against the MKII. The biggest improvement for me was actually the ergonomics and the connectivity. In my view, if folks are happy with the feel of the MKI and wouldn’t frequently make use of the individual outputs or separated CV outs, there’s really not much reason to upgrade given the price differentials.

      So since there's no seperate outputs there's no way of running a side chain from one voice to another? e.g. One voice is a kick drum and another is a synth, you can't duck the synth every time the kick hits with the MK1?

      @@TapepusherYou don’t necessarily need to duck a sound with a kick triggering a device. You can do the same thing with a simple lfo which the A4 has 2 per voice.

    to ccompare dist o mk2 hou need to turn knib actually anti-clockwise on mk2.. from middle to left it's mk1 overdive, from middle to riht it's new distortion

      Thanks for watching! Yep, you are correct. I tried to show both sides of the circuit in the comparison. It’s nice that they included the original circuit in the MKII. It has a very unique sound (if a bit unconventional for an overdrive).
