Operations on the BOE Line - Tanker Drop-off
In this video we have an eastbound freight (In the video I accidentally called it a westbound freight) that needs to drop off a tanker at our freight house. Earlier in the day, a westbound free dropped off the boxcar (see my previous video). So this crew has to do a little extra shuffling of the cars to get everybody in the right location.

Railfanning my layout - My Cobra (GI Joe) Train
มุมมอง 9710 หลายเดือนก่อน
I decided to build a Cobra Train just for fun. Custom painted and decaled different cars. Used the "ARBCO" brand for the road name. (from the comic books, ARBCO was a front company for Cobra.) ARBX is the reporting marks, denoting it as a "private owner" cars. The Alco RS-3 locomotive was chosen due to its similarity to a cobra (at least in my opinion) and is numbered #82; the first year of the...
Railfanning my layout - My "Pittsburgh Train"

Just a short video of some of my favorite cars running on my micro layout. The locomotive is a custom painted EMD SW1 to match TCKR 462 . The caboose is a basic Atlas model, with the TCKR turtle added. I have nicknamed this my "Pittsburgh train" because these cars have some tie to Western PA. 1) West Penn boxcar - WP is a fictitious railroad that my friend models that runs here in Western PA. 2...

Cotton Brute is a very special N-Scale locomotive that has made it rounds this year in honor of NRail's 50th anniversary. At the Altoona N-Scale Weekend, the Iron City N-Scale Modelers got to lash up our six Micro-Trains 50th anniversary cars to this important piece of N-Scale history while it made a round on the T-TRAK combined layout. Worth noting that at ~1:30 mark you will see the train cro...

    Hi Kevin, I'm going to say the conductor would be over seeing the switching move and helping the brakeman to expedite the move. You are correct, the bumper is there to keep the cars from accidentally rolling off the end of the track, but they are not to be used to stop the cars. I guess you can call them a safety device. I really like that freight station T-Trak model, that is a neat module with lots of ops potential. Before you know it, you're going to have JMRI Panel Pro/ Operations Pro generating switch lists for you to add to your ops sessions.😊Another neat ops video Kevin, thanks for uploading it. Cheers, Rich S.

    Nice track design. I like it. Works well as a switcher and continuous running. Very nice compact layout!!

    Hi Kevin, Nice little ops session. Of course during the PRR diesel era, there would have been two brakeman and a conductor on your train, with one brakeman designated as the head end brakeman the the second brakeman would have been riding in the caboose. They would all work together as a team to minimize walking as much as possible and expedite the switching movement. As an example more than likely the headend brakeman would have stepped off at the railroad crossing and stopped the train in the clear of the crossing, making the cut and riding the cars forward, while the rear end crew would have walked up to line the cross-over near the road crossing. They would continue to work as a team. Also the cab is on the front end of that GP30, which is indicated by the letter "F" on the side sill near the front steps, so the brakeman or conductor would have given the engineer the forward had signal to move into the siding. Just because you're shoving cars, does not mean the direction changes, the hand signals always stay the same and go by where the "F" is located on the locomotive. I know it gets kind of confusing because the N&W and Southern designated the long hood end of most locomotives as the front. But the same was true with a lot of other locomotives like the GP7, GP9, SD7, SD9 and even some of the ALCO's like the RS-2's, RS-3, etc. saw the long hood designated as the front. Also Kevin, I'm not trying to lecture or criticize you, I'm just adding this information to add to your operation experience. So please don't take this as a negative comment, I very much enjoyed your ops session video. Also on the prototype when we make a knuckle, we always give them a stretch, just to make sure the pins dropped and we have a good knuckle. Also for the count down, yes at first you count cars, but when you get to a half a car, you start counting down in feet, 20', 10', 5' and that will do as the knuckles are coming together. I see you're using Ed Kapuscinski Train Crew App? How do you like it? Not sure how many people Ed had beta testing the app, but I was on the list. Did you see Ed at the N scale convention in Bethlehem? He gave a very good clinic on winter modeling. Also Ed is usually at the Altoona N scale weekend if you have any feedback on the Train Crew App. Cheers, Rich S.

    Dontou have a video on how you made this layout? Is this N gauge? What track did you use? Is the building a scatch kit?

    • @KevinSquire
      @KevinSquire 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't have any videos on how I built it, But I do have some information on my (poorly upkept) website ... www.wikiak.org .... It's all Kato track, And I used their 'compact radius'. And yes the building is scratch built.

    • @paulrmatzke298
      @paulrmatzke298 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How did you do the panel etching on the outside of the buildings. Does the styrene come like that? How did you get the roof weathering to show up like that? Let me know if you ever want to sell this layout or make me a similar one. I was looking for something small like this.

    • @KevinSquire
      @KevinSquire 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@paulrmatzke298 I use corrugated styrene sheet for both the roof and the walls. (The roof sheet is a much tighter corrugation). I did scratch the horizontal lines in the walls, just using the back of my exacto blade, at about 10 scale feet to represent the different paneling. I painted the roof in one of three colors (dark gray, light gray, medium gray). I then use the sponge to stipple on the rust brown and yellow colors. I used a simple mask cut from cardboard when stippling to create a nice clean line along the bottom and one side to create that illusion of individual sheets.
