There will be a day in the not to distant future when China will dominate the tech sector and own important IP that the US will lust for. China will then have the option to 'do do unto others as they do unto you.' One congressman once stated that then the US will cancel all Chinese patents in the US. How condescending and arrogant.

Russia has to play catch up, due the falling behind after the collapse of the Soviet Union (and they were well behind even before that happened). With that said, they have a lot of educated engineers and scientists in Russia, they have the needed smarts. Most of their focus will be on Defense needs, but if they could secure more civilian applications that would help greatly with the cash flow. The sanctions have hurt Russia, but also motivated them to invest in key industries.

It seems to me one size doesn't fit all and that applies to the EU countries in their trade with China. Germany is heavily involved because of its auto, high voltage, agriculture, and machinery businesses. Other EU countries less so. It seems odd that Germany dominates the EU market and favors no tariffs on Chinese EVs because German companies will make their EV's in China. Other EU countries that favor tariffs have little or no auto industry. Norway took an early lead on EV's because it has cheap energy but has no EV manufacturing. Spain favors no tariffs because it knows that its exports to China could draw fire if Chinese EV's get EU tarifs. Spain is also inviting Chinese automakers to come to Spain and build factories.

India does not even have an official unified tax rate and unified laws. In China, local provinces and autonomous regions have their own laws, but if they conflict with the central laws or are not clearly explained, they must follow the central laws. Moreover, different states in India can even levy tariffs independently. You can even think of India as a modern Holy Roman Empire. For foreign commercial companies, inconsistent laws, inconsistent tax rates, and each state can levy tariffs independently are nightmares for foreign companies. Indians can say that this is the superiority of their democracy, but this superiority cannot make foreign companies make money. Since they can't make money, why should they invest in India? By the way, India also likes to create laws immediately and then use the created laws to manage previous behaviors and only target foreign companies. For example, a food company was blocked by Indian officials, and then the company's manager asked what law was violated. The official said that our law stipulates that sesame cannot be added to bread, so we have to punish you. The manager retorted, "Sir, I checked in advance. Whether it is the laws of the central government in New Delhi or the laws of your state, there is no law that sesame cannot be added to bread. The official said that this law was promulgated an hour ago, so you violated the law and we have to punish you." Then India passed this law to fine this foreign food company into bankruptcy, and then immediately abolished this law. Moreover, India's business reputation is very, very bad. I will not debate it. Are there any non-Indian multinational companies? Who dares not to ask for full payment when doing business with India, and who dares to accept Indian currency, rupees? Any Indian who wants to debate with me might as well ask the non-Indian friends present here directly, who dares not to accept full payment, who dares to accept rupees? I am an employee of a Chinese government enterprise. Our officials have two absolute rules for doing business with India. We must require India to pay the full amount in advance before we can manufacture products, and it is best to use US dollars, or British pounds, euros, or even RMB. Russian rubles (because Russian rubles can at least buy cheap minerals and energy in Russia) are also acceptable, but rupees are just waste paper. This thing is only slightly better than the German mark during the Weimar Germany period. At least the mark of Weimar Germany can be used to pay war reparations. Any official who dares to do business with India without accepting full payment or paying in rupees will be subject to criminal punishment.

The US, like China should consider AIP boats in its fleet makeup. AIP makes a cost effective defensive submarine to ward off any enemy force nearing US waters. The days for the US to police the world are over as more countries become more assertive and US influence declines. The days of the US hegemon are numbered and the US needs to learn more about getting along with other countries and making peace and not war.

Another amazing feat by the Chinese. The competition is on and only the nimble will survive. Huawei is sure to recognize the Huangang 800 and try to beat it. Domestically in China, US semiconductor companies wil find they have been handicapped by their government so are uncompetitive, but they can compete in the rest of the world and in the US. China, because of its size and depth is like a tsunami crashing down on the semiconductor sector pervading every niche from legacy developments to advance techniques to gain more with less. The US is finding out that China cannot be stopped and Raimondo's attempts have basically failed and allowed China to leap forward and US companies to leap back. Intel has stopped work on its mega fab in Ohio. AMD depends on TSMC and TSMC has stalled its two fabs in Arizona. TSMC is finding a decline in production orders as its US customers show declining sales. Apple is the poster child US company with fab outsourced to TSMC and Apple's China market is declining. It hopes its iPhone 16 will rise in the world to support its number one position in mobile phones. In China, it is in decline.

Even if freight trains can be operated half that speed, air cargo across Asia-Eu and subsequently to Africa will be within 2-3 days travel! this could literally strangle air transport both for passengers and cargo except when crossing the Atlantic though a possible link with North America via the Bering Strait may come alive by 2050.
