Probably the best reminder that charisms and virtues are tools, small pieces of the greater point: trusting in the Lord our God. I absolutely love how you remind others to discern.

So god doesn't discriminate huh? I got something from the ORIGINAL BIBLE that you should know I'm gonna simplify it for you god helped the Jews right? Yes he did BUT here is the kicker for jesus to come back someone has to kill all of the Jews... It doesn't make sense does it? Yea I have been searching in this bible for two three years of my life trying to find out why they have to kill all the Jews if anyone does have a copy of the original bible or is seeking the truth about something I'm right here and so is this bible

Discernment of spirits is so much more detailed than that. The Lord shows me in dreams when demons are attached to someone or when they are manipulating a situation. He shows me how many, what their names are and how they are obstructing or working so I know exactly what to pray into. Sometimes it’s a feeling, or a sudden headache or even a sense of heaviness and nausea in a particular place or building where evil is present- it’s very detailed. It also works closely with prophecy in my case.

Great video! According to Fr. Dubay's book "Happy are you poor", every Catholic is required to live at what he calls Level 1. He describes this as "correct motivation, working for one's living, sharing to equity, avoidance of superfluities, contentment with simplicity, avoidance of vanity." Even without the charism, so many of us have a LONG way to go sadly.

I watched this one because I was curious to see if I was given this charism. Nope!😂 I love simple living, but this isn't me. I can really see my grandfather having this, though. He's been faithful since he was a young man, too, so that ties in.

I wonder that too. Sometimes I believe I have gifts but I'm afraid I will use them for my own self glorification. Like Im a good writer. But I don't know if this is a true charism or a genetic talent. I do want to do more writing but I also think about receiving praise for that gift. I guess I don't know what's a healthy amount of wanting to in receive praise. But I do want people to think well of me. However, I'm not sure if that's from the devil or that's acceptable as a Christian.

Interesting. The error or confusion would be here in believing that someone receives a charism as a gift or reward from God because of their good behaviour. A charism rather is a commission that God gives us to be fulfilled selflessly for the benefit of others

Just in case you are wondering what she is going on about, a charism is a divine gift or power. If you think you have such, there is no saving you. To others, run.

This was a really helpful talk, thank you! I’ve been home with my kids for 21 years + but it is a topic I have started to wrestle with now that my youngest is in school. The timing component plus the unity with your spouse considerations are really helpful in turning it all over in my mind and heart. 💕

The key consideration is the safety, nurture and education of the child/children. If the child can be WELL cared for-- then and only then can there be a choice to work -- as in your case. Of course, a desperate financial situation often requires work despite not having great childcare. For me, as a college educated person, dropping off my child every day to be nurtured by high school graduates who may or may not be Christian, was not an option. Catholic education and higher education are both priorities for us.

I heard an interview from an exorcist priest that the charism of discernment is only operational during prayer session(during an exorcism/deliverance session). When someone feels/hears/sees demonic spiritual entities 24/7 then his/her 3rd eye is open and that is BAD.

This is a difficult one for me to figure out. I have a love of order and beauty in my home, a love of cooking, a love of makeup and of color analysis. People in my sphere don’t seem interested in makeup or color analysis at all so I feel alone in these areas. Having my home nicely decorated seems pointless sometimes because we are empty nesters and my husband doesn’t seem to desire having people over too much… although he does an amazing job bringing beauty to our neighborhood with his yard work. This is not a pity party, I promise, but I see my own desires for beauty and order to to seem pointless as ways to bring God to others. Am I missing something??

This sounds like a prayer to me! The Holy Spirit has different arenas for different gifts at different times in our lives. I would bring these longings of your heart to God and listen for how He responds - I promise He does not give gifts to just let them sit on the shelf, but the place you're being called to use them can change!

The teaching to use our gifts in collaboration with God reminds me of a prayer the Deacon at my parish encourages us to say each morning and which I have on my coffee mug: Lord, what are we gonna do today!
