I hope you enjoyed this video. It’s a little different from the others I make. But, plastic toys have influenced my designs for cardboard and cardstock toys ever since I was a little kid. By modifying this toy, I mean no disrespect to the original designers of FansProject in modifying this toy. This is a beautiful toy. It may not be the best FansProject toy, but it is the one with which I have ...
Discussion: Is Plastic Free Cardboard Packaging REALLY cost effective & better for the environment?
มุมมอง 58หลายเดือนก่อน
When looking at reduced plastic toy packaging, a lot of labor goes into designing and assembling the package and securing the toy in the package. Is it really cost effective? Is it better for the environment? What do you think? My expertise in cardboard engineering is self-taught since I was in elementary school. After over 45 years of making cardboard toys and playsets, I have my own perspecti...

This will be a short video recap of my visit to the DFW Joe Show in 2024. Due to financial difficulties, I wasn't able to buy much, but I did do a few trades. And to the guy I traded some GI Joe and Star Wars figures for DC Justice League figures: I didn't get to even take a picture of them. Dallas Vintage Toys wanted them so I did a trade for what you see in this video. Thank you to all the pe...

Another great video! Please keep making them! @A World made of Cardboard
Thank you. More videos are on their way!
One of my brothers had that Godzilla and the giant Shogun Robots! I remember playing with them! I want to get the miniature Godzilla replica that Super 7 put out. Great video!
Thank you for watching! I also have the little Reaction Shogun Godzilla. It is a neat little figure. I was concerned about quality issues, but Gojitron recommended it. So I got it.
I look forward to when you finally get your hands on that last 'SUPER HEROES' book. It looks like a lot of fun. Have you got the Tarzan press-out book?
I have the Super Heroes Punch-Out book. I hope to do a video soon. I have not gotten the Tarzan Punch-Out book yet, but it is on my list.
Great stuff! Over here in Australia, these have just touched down here in our version of Target for about $12.50 USD after currency conversion - I'm debating on picking one up and using the upgrade kit to turn into a base for my Micronauts figures.
$12.50 USD? Here in the US, it's $20.00. Your price is a great deal. If you're into Giant Robots and Micronauts, it's WELL worth it. Thank you for watching!
Super cool solution for this.👍
Thank you! And thank you for watching! I hope it proves useful for other figure collectors as well.
I had one when I was four and was able to figure it out and assemble it. It was one of my proudest childhood achievements!
Very nice. That's what makes these little books special. They introduce a child into creativity. That is a special memory. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for watching!
Another fine piece of work!
Thank you and thank you for watching!
i used to use clay when i was a kid for figures that have no stands and needed help
Clay is good, but I am used to cardstock. 😁 Thank you for watching!
great idea! i whine about how the Reaction Universal Monsters have no holes in their feet.
I never had the Universal Monsters figures. Now, I wish I had gotten them.
@@a_world_made_of_cardboard i waited until they were $5 on clearance.
Thanks. I'd been considering using clay to do something along these lines. But this might be better.
Very cool! They are very utilitarian and they don't look all that great, but they work! Thank you for watching.
I remember having this punch out book in 1967 when I was three years old and the Batman series was still on TV! I think most of the villains on the page with Catwoman were just made up by the artist (maybe the snowman is supposed to be Mr. Freeze) - except for the green character. That one is supposed to be Eclipso, who was very popular in the comics at the time and was also featured in a Batman frame tray puzzle made by Whitman that same year. Thanks for the memories!!!
You are most welcome! Thank you for shedding some light on the villains, too. Also, thank you for sharing your memory of this little book. These stories really mean a lot to me because this is what these Punch-Out books do: bring us together. Thank you for watching.
If he doesn't have his drill, he can't help Trump "Drill, Baby, Drill!"
Oh well, I can't win them all.
@ we need transformers that turn into the Trump Train and the Dumptruck
now you gotta change your name to "World made of Plastic"
I was thinking more along the line of, "Life in Plastic: It's FANTASTIC!" Thank you for watching.
Simple but effective modification. Looks good, although I confess that I've always liked the absurdity of the "drill tank" modes.
Ah, yes, I knew there were some people out there who love drill tanks. Thank you for watching.
Really interesting. When I have seen packages like the transformers ones my mind immediately goes to "low quality", the clean lines and the bubble or even a well designed "seamless" box lends a sense of quality almost as if they are bespoke. I am an opener first and foremost but I have considered a few carded figures as part of a display (see Goji's recent room tour for the way he uses them), that transformers box already looked open, full figure or missing head.
Thank you for watching. I have a few MIB and MOC toys that fill in the area behind my loose stuff too. It works quite well. Gojitron's collection is a fantastic work of art. As for the Transformer missing his head, that was the repaint of Cyclonus, Ferak. He had the exposed packaging like most of the Legacy toyline. There were other figures of him with the head still on and the box in the same condition. I don't understand why a company would make a product package where someone can take parts off of it. It seems like they are asking for it.
Since Hasbro won't ever make STINGRAY and JACK OF HEARTS Marvel figures, I'm thinking of getting a printer and producing PAPER DOLLS of my favorite characters.
Paper/Cardboard figures...Just what I would do.
@@a_world_made_of_cardboard i kinda did it before. When i was making VIDEO GAME covers , i printed "stickers" on the sides to cut out and glue on stuff.
If hasbro cared about the environment they'd stop making action figures that nobody wants...you know, the Marvel Movie crap at Ollies.
@@Scotty-Z70 TOTALLY AGREE! This video was my examination from an engineering/design point of view. The "over complication" of the packaging and redesign with every toy actually used MORE resources than designing something once and sticking with it. But, You are right. If the toys were something people actually wanted, there definitely would be less waste. Thank you for watching!
i think they need to stop putting the legalize in 31 languages on the package and get back to putting ART or "COLLECT THESE OTHER FIGURES, TOO" photos
I do miss that. The "Collect them all" is replaced with "lawyer language." Yeah, that really makes me want to buy more junk.
Depending where these are manufactured, people may be cheaper than plastic.
That is a good possibility. Thank you for watching!
Excellent video. Packaging designs vary depending on application. The examples you show are for toys for sale. They need to be eye-catching and can be displayed in shops on a peg or a shelf to attract the perspective buyer.
You are right. I tried to look at them from the point of view of design and engineering that went into the packaging. I find it fascinating that toy packaging is so fancy and ornate but packaging for a coffee maker is mostly...dull. It's one of the reasons I find toy packaging to be beautiful works of art. Thank you for watching.
The "plastic free" packaging initiative from Hasbro was, in my opinion, mostly a PR move. With most of their action figures being purchased by adult collectors, it backfired. The product must be clearly seen, and it must be protected from theft or vandalism. There was that idiotic social media trend where kids would swipe the heads off figures in open packaging, I still see it sometimes. The packaging I like best for figures is an old fashioned blister on cardback with a molded inner tray to firmly hold the figure and accessories without the need for ties of any kind. Good conversation!
Once again, you are right. I totally agree. Thank you for watching.
This was great. Thank you for sharing these memories.
Thank you for watching! Thank you for the compliment!
Man, this is super cool work!
Thank you! And thank you for watching. I have more build videos on the way.
Love this!
Thank you for watching! I will be adding more videos of paper toy kits soon.
Ever since Rush Limbaugh in the 90s, every time i hear this song all i can think of is the "Bill Clinton" version.
HAHAHAHA 🤣😅🤣
0:48 Micronauts Battlecruiser front section?
I wish I had that one. That was a cool toy, but I never owned one.
@ I had one. It kinda looks like it
SHOGUN WARRIORS!!!!!!
Yes, You've got to love giant plastic robots! Thank you for watching!
@ I have Raideen, Daimos,, Great Mazinger (sticker chest version and red plastic chest version) , and Gaiking…and one more
Dragun! how could i forget Dragun! I only had the 4" version of him when i was a kid
@Scotty-Z70 I had the 4" version of him too.
Great stuff! Merry Christmas! (I was way off in my guess about the robot 🤖)
I found many pictures of Christmas like that, but none of me opening up any Star Wars or GI Joe toys. There wasn't even a picture of me opening up that Godzilla. But, it was neat looking at all the things my mother did keep. Just fantastic treasures. Thank you for watching.
Awesome getting that old bundle with your early craftworks back after so many years. Merry Christmas and all the best for 2025.
Yes, it is so fascinating looking back. Thank you for watching.
I wish there were more cardboard models like this! It's inexpensive but still looks great in photos
Thank you for the compliment! That really means a lot to me. I am working on many different models for 3-3/4" figures. Keep watching this channel. More to come next year! Thank you for watching!
Totally awesome can’t wait to get one made!
Thank you for watching! Have fun building!
Awesome job!
Thank you! I really appreciate that. Thank you for watching!
That’s so cool!!
Thank you. It took a while longer to make this video due to my injury, but this is the end result of the prototype I showed you at DFW Joeshow this past summer.
the medical droid needs a ride! great job!
Yeah, I'll have to work on that. Thank you for watching!

What an amazing book, models and review! Thank you for making this video! ❤
Thank you for the kind words and Thank you for watching! It really means a lot to me.
how, did you act out the scene of Maximillian shredding the human? it shouldn't be hard, since he is made of paper
I would be lying if I said I didn't think of that.🤪
i always wanted figures of the Humanoids. they were so cool with their dome faces and hooded robes
Agreed! They were an integral part of the movie. I guess the death dealing robots won out. Thank you for watching!
@@a_world_made_of_cardboard thank you for creating this!
You are most welcome!
It's an entire toy line in one book. Very nice! Who wouldn't want a little Ernie Borgnine paper doll?
Yes, And Anthony Perkins too! Such great memories!😁 Thank you for watching!
Great v8deo. Br8ngs back a lot of memories.
As I was putting it together, I was remembering when I got this book when I was a kid and put it together. Really great memories! Thank you for watching!
Cool video. Love the book.
Thank you for watching! Did you have a show today? I missed it!
@@a_world_made_of_cardboard no I took the day off to work on a new video.
Ok, sounds like we were both doing the same thing. 😁
Nice video. Makes me want to go out and try to find a copy of this book.
It is a fun book! Thank you for watching!
Hey John! Really enjoyed watching you assemble this playset! The music was very soothing too. This was a pretty cool little playable diorama, never realized they even made this. Thanks for showcasing it! Look forward to your next assembly adventure & review!
WOW! Thank you for the kind words. That really means a lot to me. It is a neat little playset. I just think the original price was WAY TOO MUCH. Thank you for watching!
Original retail on those Solo playsets was a bit much. The Godzilla Kong playsets at Target are good value, $25 which includes two figures. So you're basically only paying $5 for the cardboard diorama, as it should be!
You are absolutely right!! Cardboard playsets should NOT cost as much as Hasbro/Disney was charging for these. I was VERY tempted by that Godzilla Kong Playset. It really was a great price too. Honestly, I can't remember why I didn't get it. I loved your review of it too! Thank you for watching!
This is awesome, what an amazing job, well done sir! 👍
Thank you. Thank you for watching too!
I bought one about a yr ago and it’s a nice play set specifically when u fill it out with Jabba and the other characters it really looks nice ,but I plan to modify my and make it more sturdier and simpler to assemble great video THANKS 😊👍
Thank you for watching! It is a great addition to any Star Wars collection. The design lends itself to getting Jabba and a bunch of his "party goers" to hang out. Happy Building!
This was a fun video to watch, I never had one of these but it looks really cool. Enjoyed watching you assemble it and loved seeing those Final Faction figures in use! Take care my friend!
Thank you for watching! I was pleasantly surprised how well it went together. Hopefully I can add more videos soon.
I loved these POTF2 dios as a kid
I think I would have loved them too. But I was in college at the time and had Transformers and GI Joe on my mind. Thank you for watching.
I need to pick this one up, I just got the cantina because of Wilhelm, forgot how cool it was. I never had the palace though.
It's a good playset. Definitely worth the purchase if you really like Star Wars and want a neat little background for displaying your figures. Thank you for watching.
so, Han Solo isn't made of cardboard? EPIC FAIL!!!! JK! great video! Maybe you can duct tape over Han Solo, or Aluminum Foil over him to carbonize him?
But...but aluminum foil isn't cardboard too.🤪 I'm not really sure what they were hoping to achieve with this figure. It just seems odd. I think they did make a figure with a carbon block "case" so that the Solo could be "trapped" in it. But that was NOT released here. Thank you for watching.
@@a_world_made_of_cardboard yep I have the figure that looks like your figure and clips into the backside of the carbon slab. It’s like the exact opposite of your figure. I suppose if I put the carbon top of mine on yours it would be complete
I got the Jabba's Palace diorama as well. I hope you have fun with yours! You might need some paperweights to hold parts of it down. That's what I had to do with mine. Luckily by then I collected a bunch of Jabba's Palace and Tatooine related Star Wars figures to populate it!
I've thought about getting a few figures for it. I have it sitting on a shelf now and it looks SO EMPTY with no figures in it. It is a fun little playset to build. Thank you for watching.
