Hi! I was wondering if you were asked about your availability or schedule at all at your audition? I want to audition but my schedule is kind of strange since I am in college
Thank you so much for this helpful video! So grateful for your transparency and experienced insight
So glad you found it helpful! Good luck on your endeavors 🙂
Any tips for someone starting a super hero company?

I was just hired as a full time character performer this week!!! Thank you for all the info! ❤️
Congrats!!! Enjoy every moment!
I know it’s off-topic but it’s nice to see a fellow Rhode Islander here.
Small world! Thanks for watching :)
Quick question! I worked for a character company as well, did you put it on your resume? I’m just wondering if the copyright infringement prohibits or helps girls from getting cast!
Great question! I did include the experience on my resume, but I didn't put the exact name of the company. I think I used something more vague like "Princess Performing Co" etc. that showed the job experience without giving too much info about the specific company.
Can we get by with that heat with no fans or is it hard? Also are all character suits Velcro? I heard Gideon has one and someone almost had a panick attack due to it.
It's definitely super hot, which is why sets are about 20 minutes long or so. Many of the costumes have velcro closures. The chipmunks were pretty simple while some characters (such as Gideon and plenty of others) have extra clothing/pieces that require layering.
@@ashhcarrmorris Man, that’s what I am scared of. My audition is tomorrow but in the last minute I get reminded about things like that. I always wanted to be a character but if it’s enough for me to panic about then it’ll make me think twice. =(
@@WolfMoon351 I say give it a shot, you won't know until you try! :) There are plenty of practice opportunities you'll have before you ever go out to meet guests in costume anyway!
hi! super informative video, i had a quick question about how disney measures the performers. i've seen other videos where people have mentioned that disney typically measures you as shorter than you really are, and that's like you're "disney height". so if i'm 5 ft 3.5 in., would you be able to ballpark guess what my "disney height" would be? i've seen others say it just takes you down by like half an inch, so i would be 5'3 maybe?
Funny that you mention this! I was confused when I was measured at 5 ft 3.5 inches in Disney because I had always thought I was 5'4 exactly. Some people weren't surprised by their height though, so I'm not entirely sure how they come to those conclusions. I have a feeling it has more to do with your other body measurements as well- but that's just a guess!
@@ashhcarrmorris interesting, good to know! thank you so much for answering!! 😁
I have an audition for my DCP extension at 9am EST. I did a little research and I feel like I'm doing great! It also helps that I'm in the 5'8 range and that I believe my favorite is in that range. This feels like I'm on other world right now.
So exciting!! Good luck!
@@ashhcarrmorris Didn't get it, but I'm not upset. I at least had the courage to do it to begin with.

Good luck!!
This video was super helpful! I’ve been auditioning for a while for sculpted characters and haven’t landed a role yet. I will definitely keep trying!! My hips are a bit wide, and I’m wondering if this is a reason why I haven’t been cast. 😔
There are performers of all shapes and sizes in these roles! I think there are also some height/measurement references available online for each character if you'd like to check out who you may be able to play specifically. I was technically measured an inch and a half too short to be a face character but it still worked out somehow, so just keep at it! Good luck! :)

@@ashhcarrmorris of course girl! ❤️❤️ yayyy how fun!
Hi I know this is super late but I really have a question I think you could help with. I'm getting my hair cut soon and I'm going to try bangs, kind of a less thick version of Anna's. Will I have to pin them back for the audition? Did any of the performers at your audition who moved on to the last round have bangs? Oddly specific, but I really want to put my best foot forward. Thanks!
There are performers with sooo many various hair types and styles (including bangs!), so I’d go with whatever makes you feel most confident. Everyone ends up wearing a wig regardless, so I think the casting directors are able to work with all sorts of hair colors/styles/etc 🙂 good luck!
@@ashhcarrmorris Thanks so much!
They casting people need to see ur face. If ur bangs are in ur eyes either cut them or pull them back.
What were the gloves of the penguin costume like, and what was it like to wear the costume overall? The gloves look like they’re hard to sign autographs in. Also, how does Disney manage a guest interaction so it doesn’t last too long?
thank you so much for this!
thanks for watching :)
watching this before my first audition!! thank you so much for all the advice💕
good luck and have so much fun!! 🙂
I start my character training in 10 days!! these videos are great and very helpful!
So excited for you! Enjoy every moment!
Hi! I’m curious about the audition process. I got back from a fur performer audition, and didn’t get cut until we finished the first choreography portion. I stayed for the measurement, animation, and the easy part of the dance. Does that mean I won’t get the role or do I still have a chance?
I'm sorry I never saw this comment! I hope you landed the role! It's tough to say for sure who will get callbacks honestly. I knew of some people who made it through the whole audition process, but then either didn't get a callback or didn't pass the costume portion or the character training. There were others who didn't need to do any of the animation or dancing and still made it. I'm sure they have a method for how/why they cast people but it never seemed to make much sense to me!
Could you share your new projects, what are you focusing on right note in this part of your life
Question I have would be Are all the fur characters mainly girls? Course tall ones say goofy are males for sure but I heard most characters say Mickey Donald daisy and what not are all female 🤣 (was at Disneyland paris in June and we dined at a character dining place and Daisy Duck was all over me a bit much throughout the night and my friends were scaring me saying it could have been a bloke 🤣🤣😅😅) enjoyed the Q&A btw
There are so many cast members who work as each character so it's hard to say, I knew girls who performed as Mickey and girls who were Goofy. It's more dependent on body frame/measurements than on gender from what I've noticed!
Hi Ashley, were there actually any other unusual incidents while you were in the park as the character other than the stories you've already shared? Is it true that all costume pieces have a barcode that you have to scan when picking up and returning the costume? (To make sure all parts from the costume/so the entire costume was returned?) what is the deal with breaks anyway how do you cool down? (are there fans or other possibilities) how much time do you have to go back to work? do you change completely? (So the complete costume off or only the head? (Especially with the furry characters I would be very interested in this!) Maybe you can comment on this in a new video? Kind regards Katharina
I know I'm So late, but this was incredibly helpful! I submitted a video last month for a first audition just for fun, and now I have a video callback 😯. I am a life-long disney-fan, but my parents thought it was weird for anyone above child to like that sort of thing; I was offered a straight-to-improv audition when I was 16 (a woman I babysat for apparently had some sort of in, especially as I have the name of a Disney Princess who was 16 herself) but my step-mother said no (She happened to be more evil than Disney could legally show XD) I've only been to Disney world a few times, all but 1 with my grandfather whom I took care of through cancer in my adulthood; he picked my name from Disney, and now I feel that my next trip will be the only way I can say goodbye. My step-mother kicked me out the day after he passed, keeping me from the funeral and effectively preventing me from claiming any will, as I was forced to move very quickly. This inability to have any sort of closure has really set me back... And, not that I usually let this hinder me much, but I do have numerous diagnosed physical and mental disorders 😅 You never intended this video to mean anything more than the base of what you presented, I am sure, but for me... This increases my chances of being able to finally live life for myself and my own future.💖
Thank you for watching and for sharing your story! I wish you the best of luck!! :)
lmao how do they do the kissing noise ?
Some people are comfortable making little noises like kissing sounds as their characters. In my experience, those are typically performers who have been there a while and are very comfortable in their roles!
@@ashhcarrmorris i mean how the kiss sound is allways the same. its almost like a pop
@@insidejokespodcast3956they most likely do it themselves
A question I have, how do the fur characters make the kissy sounds? Is that the only sound they are allowed to make :)
Great question! Technically characters aren't supposed to make any noises in fur costumes but some people are able to push the limits a bit, I found this would typically only really happen with people who had worked the job for many years who were extra comfortable in their role
@@ashhcarrmorris that’s interesting! I always thought It was cute when the Fur characters made the little kissy sound. I sometimes hears tigger and goofy make little sounds too lol
Omg this is awesome! Even as an adult the character performers make it so special. I always love seeing chip n dale. It’s so cool you had that job. Thanks for helping make the magic. Are fur characters typically more so girls?
Thank you! I agree! I've always loved meeting the characters even as an adult. And I'm not entirely sure, but based on my experience I'd guess that fur characters are equally as often male as they are female, and mostly just depend on height, body shape, measurements, etc.
i hope to see ur channel grow !! ur so sweet and this is really informative and helpful, you explained it really clearly
Thank you so much! I'm so glad it was helpful :)
Thank you for sharing your experience. Loved the video. Hope to see more. 💗
thanks for watching! :)
thank you so much again for the video!! I have another question! can you rank every single fur and face character costume you’ve worn in terms of vision, comfort, ease of putting on, how hot it was, etc. Can you also describe how some of the fur character costumes worked too? Also! can you please do the voice for your face characters!! it’s always so cool to see performers switch into their character accents!!
how was the experience saw special person for you in the meet time?
have you ever taken a picture breaking a character?
Thus is so useful! Would I be able to buy the performer guide by chance?
I'm so glad! And absolutely, feel free to send me an email: ashcarr1292@gmail.com
Hi dear Ashley, were there actually any other unusual/or unpleasant incidents while you were out in the park as a character besides the stories you already told? (I once heard that a female performer said that mostly male adults would make inappropriate remarks (hugging the character, pressing the costume and then saying "there's a woman in there" in front of the kids). Is it true that all costume parts have a barcode that you have to scan when picking up and returning the costume? Maybe you can address these issues in a future video?
Thanks for your questions! I'll make sure to address these in a future video, I've been super busy with school lately but hoping to upload more videos soon :)
Hello, thank you very much for letting me/us participate in this great topic U tell us so much from your own experiences! (I've always wanted to work as a character performer myself, but the next Disneyland in Paris is too far away... 😢) May I ask you a few more questions about Chip and Dale? (Are one of my absolute favorite characters) how exactly do you put on this costume? Do you generally get help putting on the costumes or do you always have to do it alone? Have you ever felt sick in the costume because it was too hot or because of another thing and you had to get out quickly? Please be sure to continue with this topic on your channel! I'm so super happy to have discovered you Subscribe in any case!
Thanks so much for watching! I'm happy to answer any questions :) Chip and Dale are pretty easy to put on, you step into their big bodysuits and zip them up, and their shoes are sneakers with fur over them which tuck into the bodysuit legs. There is a neck guard that covers your neck that allows only your face to show and the head just goes on top and lifts on/off! There is also a chin strap that keeps it in place and keeps the head from popping off if you were to trip/fall etc. The chipmunks are easy to get in/out of by yourself, while some other costumes require some extra help (Pluto, for example). I talked a little bit about anxiety and needing to get out of a costume in my "cringeworthy moments" video- I think that was the only time I had to get out that I can recall at the moment! Thanks again for your questions, hope that helps!
please do more videos about character performing!!! really enjoyed it! :) do you have any funny stories like wardrobe malfunctions with fur characters or even visibility problems? always wondered how the character performers see out of the costumes! or maybe any awkward moments with guests too like having to break character??
Thanks so much for these ideas! I just uploaded another video with a few more general Q&A's and have a few other videos coming about those more specific experiences too :)
