Tom Bihn Western Flyer and Red Oxx Mini Boss Comparison Review
For a brief afternoon, I had both these bags in my possession. Here is a quick review comparing them. Sorry about the camera angle, I only had time for one take.

Tom Bihn Pilot & Maker's Bag - Quick Comparison
มุมมอง 8K7 ปีที่แล้ว
I briefly go over a few of the main differences between the Maker's bag and the Pilot. Sliding over a rolling bag handle, how a laptop fits, how to pack it, which shoulder straps work with it, laptop and water bottle, differences between the carry handles on these.

Tom Bihn Pilot & Daylight Briefcase: Comparison Review
มุมมอง 14K8 ปีที่แล้ว
A short overview comparing the Pilot vs the Daylight Briefcase. The Pilot is currently $160 and has a 13L capacity. The Daylight is $80 and has a 9L capacity. The Pilot has a dedicated water bottle / umbrella compartment, more pockets, and sewn in spots for pens. Its carry handle is better and zippers are metal. The only spot I have found to keep my iPad in the Pilot is in the exterior pocket, ...

Timbuk2 Wingman Travel Backpack Review: Why I won't be traveling with it
มุมมอง 24K8 ปีที่แล้ว
The Wingman by Timbuktu is a great value (I found one for $90 online) and thought it was worth giving it a shot. There were a few things that stood out as definite detractors: The weight of the flap where the tablet and laptop go, the size of the laptop pocket, and the lack of internal organization.

Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45 Packing Review - with Pilot and Laptop
มุมมอง 11K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Review of the Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45 showing packing for a business and a leisure trip. Demo of how the A45 can carry a laptop for quick access.
I’m late to the party, but does a 14 inch laptop fit?
It is a tight fit, but some 14" laptops do fit. Tom Bihn is happy to check dimensions to see which of their caches would fit a certain laptop, and if that cache will fit in the Pilot.
Thank you - this is enormously helpful when trying to choose between the various models.
Hi, great video. With the release of Technonaut, I think Aeronaut is still a better bet. Wanted to check if you weighed the bag in both scenarios? Some of the jets allow only 8Kg carry on limit.
I have lived overseas since the Technonaut came out, so can’t comment on that. But I do think it has potential. I haven’t weighed the bag in each scenario. International airlines like Lufthansa have regularly allowed me more kg in the bag if I have my laptop in it can a separate laptop bag. For the record, I have switched to using a Shadow 33 as my main travel bag
@@asthecrowflies1411 thanks for the quick reply. I really appreciate it
Great comparative review! I love the organization of the Pilot, although I don't use mine very often these days. I wondered if I'd still need it after soon receiving a Maker's Bag I bought online. It seems to me they both have their place. If I want something I can use with a camera insert and still have some other "stuff" inside, I'm guessing the Maker's Bag will work nicely. :-)
I would recommend this to anyone
This video brilliantly explains the carrying capacity of the Daylight Briefcase. Love the comparison packing. Thank you!
I wish they got 45L or hiking backpack.
Tom bihn for me . I love their bags.
Hi! I Just was wondering if you have brought the Aeronaut 45 on the small regional jets in the US and also in Europe?
Yes. I have used it on E-145s and CRJ 700/900s in the USA, Mexico, Canada, Germany and Belarus. When not overpacked it fits in the overhead just fine. When packed to the max, I have had to give it a few good shoves.
I was about to criticize him for claiming it was for laptops from five years ago, then I remembered that my 16.5" laptop was more than five years old when he made this video.
*Use it for everyday commuting◓◓>**imgs.love/Tk2Bag?С** At first, I thought it might be too shallow. But, it holds all my stuff quite well. AND, it's Timbuk2.*
Hi! I am struggling a little between the WF in 525 vs. Halcyon. I am kinda leaning towards Halcyon, just because its a little more flexible. However I worry about abrasions . I am new to TB and just bought the Synik 22. What is your opinion on the two fabrics when traveling on a plane? Do you feel the WF could possibly fit a weeks worth of summer clothing (mens) using the TB packing cubes designated for the Wf? Or should I go with Tristar? Cheers!
Hi Kevin O. I haven't used the 525 myself, so I can only say that the Halcyon is going to be a lighter and less abrasion resistant fabric. I like it in bags like the WF because it grows with the bag, and is good for when it is underpacked. As to the question on a weeks worth of clothes, I think this is certainly doable in the WF, and maybe easier than the tri-star. It all depends on what else you are looking to bring. At 26L, the WF holds a fair bit.
What exactly are the small packing cubes in front? Are they a TB product? If so what size and name please!!
Chris Delp They are the halcyon TB packing cubes for the Western Flyer. It is a discontinued packing cube that has been replaced by the current line of Aether cubes. I much prefer the halcyon fabric.
What color is the interior material here?
Andy, the interior of this one is Wasabi green
The TB Synapse 25 Freudian Slip also works great in this bag. The FS gives the bag good structure and provides for a lot of organizational options inside the bag.
Was that a 9.7 or 10 or 12 inch Ipad?
Shawn Powell it was a 9.7”
Do you wish at all that you had gotten the Aeronaut 30 or the Tristar instead of the bags you chose?
@@HazyGator no, i wear a size 13, so the Aeronaut 30 wouldn't fit a pair of shoes in the end pocket. And the Tri-Star sections only work if you pack flat. I like the versatility of the Western Flyer
Nice review
How have you found the durability fo the Halcyon?
So far the durability of my Halcyon bags has been fine. The material shows some cosmetic wear. No holes or thin spots yet.
unfortunately, whenever I travel for work I am stuck with a 17" laptop. All my work takes heavy processing power. Wish I could travel with a 15", super thin laptop instead!
you can, alot of thin laptops can handle higher work loads
Overall, really good review But,you sound really far away.
A mini on the go first aid kit
In the q kit I use it for my spare quarters/coin change
Do you prefer the lighter halcyon or the stiffer ballistic?
blondre3000 my personal preference is for the Halcyon. I prefer the look, and like how compressible the material is.
Good video. Right now the Pilot is available in Ballistic Nylon and Nordic Halcyon, while the Daylight Briefcase is only available in the Nylon. Guessing they will compress about the same given the material difference when packing inside another bag. Although the Nylon prob gives either choice more stability and less “floppiness”.
Awesome video. could you tell me what size that receipts pouch is? it seems perfect for my needs. the tom bihn site does not state that very clearly.
in0711 it is the medium double organizer pouch
How does the claw shoulder strap compare to the absolute strap? Which is better?
sportsbriefcase I find the claw to be very uncomfortable. It doesn't have any padding. The Tom Bihn strap is the best I have ever used. It doesn't slip and also has excellent padding. Both are very high quality, but the Bihn is the only one I would recommend due to the comfort.
For the small pouch, I will put my essential oil, the one for my nuts allergies. Or for any small usefull objects or change.
Gabrielle Bélanger Yes change or weed
Hey, what is this 'cache' you're using? Not familiar with that piece of equipment
Matt Voda, it is the TB laptop sleeve. www.tombihn.com/products/cache?variant=23012415687
Is that a Tom Bihn shoe bag? Which one is it?
sportsbriefcase yes, it is the Aeronaut 45 end pocket packing cube, all fabric. www.tombihn.com/products/packing-cube-aeronaut-45?variant=17698769543
Thanks, good job.
Thanks for the review. I am interested in this bag, although I am a little concerned it would be hard to carry if it was full. Coud you tell us how much padding there is on the back, please?
I think the waist strap would be good for folks who commute daily on a bike and just need the basics in their backpack. Like water bottle, rain jacket, small bike kit or whatever. I know the large Cafe bag they sell has one too for bikers. Thank you for this review. I'm thinking about buying one. All my current bags are the exact print and color of yours.
I put a train pass in the luggage tag holder and strap it to my bag.
Great info video. Thank you! Very useful and lot's of info
does it have a rain cover like the old one?
Have you had any problems with water getting inside the makers Bag, referring to the gaps on the flap sides?
No, this has not been an issue. When filled, the gaps are minimal. Granted, I don't use this for long walks in the rain either. This bag has only been used for going to the cafe from the car.
I keep a pack of tissues, a handful of single use eye drops, and a packet of mints in my small Q Kit
I am just wondering if I can bring this bag on board together with another 20-inch carry-on luggage for domestic flights in US.
Thanks, that was even more helpful than I expected--I'd been wondering whether that size Brain Cell would fit in the Pilot.
Great review. That was helpful.
great review, i'm tempted by one as i have a Makers bag right now, but it is only slightly too small for all my stuff should i go on holiday. maybe i should organise it better :p
Great video... I've been looking for someone to pack a pair of 14s in the end pocket. Good news for us big footed guys
While the review is great, your camera angle sucks. I hope in future videos this something that you can fix.
Will a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012 fit in the cache sleeve?
Ramsey Adam Clark, you purchase the cache you need based on the model there is a huge list on the website. The short answer is yes a 15 inch MacBook will fit in a cache inside the Synapse. It will even fit in the 19L version but it is tight and you lose some packing space in the main area. I hope that helps!
can't see anything.... camera out of focus
Keep up the great reviews. As a fan of Tom Bihn I already had a few bags. But because of your videos I now own a Western Flyer and DLBP. Where are you reviewing from? Cheers from Canada.
Hi Skipper, I am reviewing from Seattle, WA. The home city of Tom Bihn.
Awesome,I lived there for 6 months back in 2008-2009.
Having the "half height" pocket to the REAR of the "full height but half covered" front pocket is confusing as heck. I have some packs with a full-height water bladder pocket plus a zip mesh pocket on the other side of the bladder panel - at the top. With the Bihn design, the rear-most slot is the "shorty, 1/2 depth slot" huh? Ergo, you can't put a full height laptop in the front slot for back padding, because if you use the slot to the rear of that, suddenly you've got a lump at your upper back?
Sounds like excess weight since you need a cache. What's the point of a lightweight bag if I need to carry an item (cache) I don't need?
It all depends on what you pack anyway. I have a cache with me when I travel so this allows me to pack a lightweight backpack into my main bag and then use it as a daypack. Depending on what you take with you, a cache might not even be beneficial or this may not even be a good bag to meet your needs.
+AsTheCrowFlies I like the idea of a day pack to put in my A45, but I don't think I'd like things poking me in the back. I'd always have to be thinking about what I can put in there and how to arrange it.
Where did you purchase the cache ?
Out of curiosity, what did you end up with?
I have about a half dozen bags at any given time. My go to carry-on is either a Tom Bihn Aeronaut 30 or 45.
I find this interesting considering the TB 30 and 45 are probably the worst bags to hold a laptop.
M O that’s what I think too.
@@asthecrowflies1411 that costs 4x as much
Nice review, but I couldn't finish because I was getting motion sick. The bobbing of your helmet cam is to blame.
