Cleaning the mouse wheel should not be so complex. Shame on you Microsoft for making it hard on purpose. You know 20% of people dont have time or skills for these steps and will dump the mouse and re-purchase.

I knew this mouse was old. But does anyone have issues with battery of this mouse, it's drained fast, i mean fast, few days with normal AA batteries and about 10-20 days with expensive high-end Duracell or Energizer. I heard a lot of people have the same problems, but it's seem there is no solution to fix it.

Way too many screws to lose. I'll just buy new.

Cleaned my mouse with alcohol. don't do that.. use acetone.

When the rubber wheel stops working: Take apart mouse. Do NOT remove wheel assembly from mouse, it is not necessary to do this. Tear off all old rubber on wheel, clean wheel. Wheel without rubber will be too small to easily roll with finger tip. Slice off top 1mm of left and right hubs on left and right side of wheel. I recommend using a long razor utility knife, but any knife should work. Now the wheel edges are not blocked by hubs and your finger can easily roll the wheel. Reassemble mouse. My mouse wheel works like new again after doing this. approx time 10 minutes total.

Like the 4000 and have 3 all with bad scroll wheel. Now with your help on that 1 screw under the plastic Gide I fixed all 3. Hard to pop out the wheel assembly out. Pry on the top face of the wheel assembly finally popped the wheel assembly apart. wheel assembly would not stay together so had to add 2 spots of super glue. So wheel assembly is a one time fix. MS used a heavy sticky grease even IPA would not remove it. WD40 not a drop but a WD40 wipe on the wheel assembly pin. Beautiful video I would not change anything. Thx

Thanks to this video I was able to fix my left mouse button's malfunctioning. Sound would have been nice but I guess it wasn't necessary since I was still able to fix my mouse. These things sure last a while.

Co Ty sprawdzałaś tym mierniczkiem, prąd rozruchowy? Nic dziwnego że spaliłeś bezpiecznik. Do mierzenia takiego prądu służy całkiem inny miernik.

The housing that encloses the wheel is not designed to be taken apart. It actually breaks (2:55), you will have to glue it back together. However the rubber around the wheel is garbage. You can't clean it. Once the wheel gets sticky its time to replace it. I ripped the rubber off the wheel & reassembled it.

If only this vid had some subtitles or audio. It would be much more usefu then.

Wydaje mi się że źle podłączyłeś kable na multimetrze i pod koniec samochód nie reagował na centralny bo strzelił bezpiecznik w multi. Powinieneś podłączyć do gniazda 20A

If you pull the majority of the disintegrating rubber off the wheel, you can get the small leftover bits out of the mouse with rubbing alcohol, qtips, some pointy tweetzers, toothpicks and a can of air duster... without disassembly. A strong pair of reading glasses helps too.

How can I reconnect it to the fob

hey man, thx for the video! however, my issue is on the receiver usb stick we put into the pc in order to connect the mouse. The issue itself i don't know. I took the pc for travel and when I got back it wasn't working anymore. Maybe it bent a little or broke something on the inside. All I know is that it's not the mouse that's the problem. it's only the little usb receiver. Is it gone for sure or is there a way for me to fix it? Appreciate it!

Oh my GOD....I was just keep buying these MS Mice...and wheels were keep working bad....decided to get replacements from MS but had to pay shipping and so much hassle. So I decided to disassemble and clean the wheels and it works like charm. I will do for other mice I was keep buying new. Thanks for the video.
