Hindemith - Scherzo for Viola & Cello (Hindemith & Feuermann)
มุมมอง 4.5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A fun and fairly short work, the origin story of this piece is a rather unique one, in which Hindemith was forced to write this work the night before recording, as they needed something to fill the 'b' side of their record. Feuermann, the cellist, supposedly saw the score a mere few hours before recording. As to whether or not all of the facts in the story are true, it is a fascinating genesis ...

    Listen to this more than twice and like your first time hearing A Bramssymphony or a Mozart quintet you will start to discover a totally unique sound world . I had to see the sheet music .I wonder if the piece can be performed on one piano with 2 players . The taped piano behind the live player was a fabulous idea at the time 1970's .Was happy to see a filmed performance of this great music ! The experience rewards itself !!!

      it can't be performed by two performer - Nono really wanted that sort of "ghost" presence of a recorded track. and gave specific indications for the amplification...

    yeah right... now write a tonal fugue

    • @emilianoturazzi
      @emilianoturazzi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      techincally speaking you actually don't know how easy it is... now (I know: as a student I wrote more than 40 tonal fugues...) - tonality is a storicized language, an highly formalized one, same can be said for counter point and, moreover, we can study tons of wonderful examples... one just needs to study - basically whatever composition student can do that, but this doesn't make them good composers... or even bad ones: mostly are simply craftmen or even quit after getting the degree...

    • @igordrm
      @igordrm 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@emilianoturazzi I believe it is easy for those who endured hard work on mastering it. Atonality is also a storicized language, and sometimes more formalized and intellectual than anything previously composed. This composition by Berio is one that seems just an intellectual game, and an encouragement for the untalented to do whatever they want or feel to, which is great! I deem with great respect all the 20th century noise makers: they removed from our path the need of we having to do it. It's more a dialetical approach of how to do music: do the contrary of everything we learned from Palestrina, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner etc. The first who did it (Schoenberg) was a genius. The others, on the other hand...

      this piece isn't Berio's - it's Nono's. to write music always deserves hard work and enduring efforts - but it's not worthy to discuss such things at a such silly level. have fun

      @@emilianoturazzi My mistake about the composer. I see you are a musician, and so am I. You don't need to take my critics as personal. I find this music silly by itself, something suitable only for the hermetic environment of the academy. For the sense of hearing it is unpleasant, ugly and uninteresting. Could I find it at least courious one day? Of course! Trust me that I'm eager to understand things, and if there's something positive that I can say about this kind of music is that intrigues me, simply because it's beyond my human condition and experience to find any reason why to spend my time hearing it - and, as you can see, I keep trying. I know that I wasn't diplomatic and/or formal on my commentary, but I was sincere. I'm sorry if you felt offended. Trust me that I would love to read your considerations, they could widen my perspective. I wish you the best!

      @@igordrm I'm sorry I was harsh - I'm a bit annoyed by that kind of comments (try to write a fugue and so on) since I've been hearing such things ever since I was more or less 16 years old - I think they are really misleading - at least for the simple reason they misuderstand ability for art. you are obviously entitled to your opinions and tastes - but remember that such comments can offend (not me, that's not relevant - you could find an amusing dialogue I had with a guy that called a score of mine "pathetic") a whole group of people devoting its life to music in a different way you do. Most of them are sincere in their efforts in makeing music. all the best to you too (I see you are a peaceful guy, I highly appreciated you didn't get involved in my rudenss that could have easily drove us to a flame). ps some people really like to hear this kind of music: I like it, I wouldn't dedicate all my life to something I don't like at all just for some academichal purpose or for satysfing ego claiming I'm part of an enlighted elite.

    Wow Monk is doing something similar to 2 hand tapping on the guitar. When he crosses over his hands he creates a different kind of voicing that allows him to extend his performance like Stanley Jordan.

      If you're the composer, as Hindemith here, you can play it however you like. It's not like it sounds remotely headlong.
