Tariffs Explained: Tariffs on China, Canada, Mexico, and Ecuador’s New Deal | Latin Wealth
Welcome to Wealth Wednesday 1/29/25. In this episode, we take an in-depth look at the latest developments in global trade and tariffs affecting the United States and its key trading partners. With recent moves by President Trump and new tariff announcements from Ecuador, this discussion sheds light on how these policies may reshape international trade dynamics and impact economies worldwide.
What Are Tariffs?
- A tariff is a tax imposed by one country on goods and services imported from another.
- Tariffs are used to influence trade, raise revenue, and protect domestic industries.
Key Topics Discussed:
Trump’s Use of Tariffs:
- President Trump argues that tariffs will boost U.S. manufacturing, protect jobs, raise tax revenue, and grow the economy.
- However, Trump warns that Americans might feel some economic pain as a result.
China’s Response:
- A 10% tariff on all goods imported from China to the United States went into effect on February 4.
- In retaliation, China has imposed a 15% tariff on U.S. coal and liquefied natural gas products starting February 10, along with 10% tariffs on crude oil, agricultural machinery, and large engine cars.
Canada and Mexico Tariff Developments:
- The Canadian Prime Minister has announced that Trump's proposed 25% tariffs on Canadian goods will be paused for at least 30 days while negotiations continue.
- Similarly, tariffs on Mexico have been put on hold for a month following discussions between President Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who also confirmed the deployment of national guard troops to the border to address drug and weapons trafficking concerns.
- Mexico has warned that a tariff war could have significant negative effects on both U.S. consumers and American companies operating in Mexico.
Ecuador’s Bold Tariff Move:
- Ecuador has announced a 27% tariff on Mexican goods to "ensure fair treatment" of its domestic producers, according to President Daniel Noboa.
- Although Ecuador accounts for less than 0.1% of Mexico's exports, this move highlights tensions in trade relations.
- Additionally, Ecuador has finalized a new trade deal with Canada, expected to boost local job growth in sectors like flowers, canned tuna, textiles, and auto parts, with mutual commitments on labor and environmental policies.
Join us as we explore the economic implications of these tariff policies and what they mean for global trade, investment strategies, and the everyday consumer. Tune in now to understand how these shifting trade dynamics could affect your bottom line and the broader market.

Tariffs hurt both the seller and buyer and actually does not raise as much revenue as expected. Canada has more leverage than people think compared to China. If they cut the oil we will be in deep……. Don’t think that Mexico can’t fight back. They are our best trading partners.

Great conversation as always!
The pink people had a headstart
💯
Dominican Republic is nice but weak economy because it’s basically dependent on its sources of income from abroad. Too many external factors that make Dominican Republic be an unstable place for the long term. Mexico or Colombia are safer long term investments
I want to grow to the point where I have the privilege of turning down locations (by that I mean just having that amount of demand) but my plan would be to stay small enough long enough so I can be big enough soon enough
Although very nerve-wrecking for a beginner, I see cold calling and door knocking as an experiment. I learn with each one and tweak my script and learn different rebuttals as I go. And you get better over time. Now that I think about it, I did something very similar for my dog walking business.
Great conversation as always.
Thank you!

@@latinwealth Sure! The culture is great, the food is fantastic, there are mountains and beaches, many family members, and school safety for our child. Business opportunities too, I believe after spending ~3 months there, and overall comparative affordability as well.

I hope this prevents illegals from polluting America. They now have a reason to stay home.
I wonder if the divorce was a factor. He was always business savvy one of the few that was owner of his masters which made him more money and control.
Great question!
Screw doctor and lawyer. If you like medicine or law, get you some, but doctor and lawyers have some of the highest debt to income ratio out there. Someone that make $60k a year and ownes their own house and their car debtfree, typically has a higher net worth than a doctor or lawyer. Not a dang thing wrong with working in a kitchen. Outside retirement investments, cooking and cleaning makes more millionaires than all other forms.
We appreciate your thoughtful comment! 💯

Great podcast gents! I think your point/question regarding the success of the 'up selling' elements of their website is an interesting question. Surely having to click through/reject so many upsell offers gives the customer too much time to reconsider their purchasing decision and eventually just leave the cart transaction abandoned. I thought the whole point of apps were to reduce the buying friction and to drive simplicity.
Thank you for listening! And I agree with you, I wonder if making Spirit's pricing model more simple and streamline....could that positively affect their revenue? Maybe, maybe not. Ultimately, I think what needs to be improve is the overall flying experience of their flights.
I flew on Spirit once. It was the worst flight, the worst seats, the dirtiest plane, the worst pos airline ever. Nuf said.
I didn't have the best experience flying with them either.
Three words “The Spirit Effect” Look it up and you see the other airlines have matched Spirit airfares and amongst other things too many grounded planes that have to be paid for that wasn’t making money. Gotta be more objective unless you know what it takes to run an airline. Spirit will be just fine

Jaime forgot to say his main business is making money from TH-cam, Not candy. He makes $7k a month on the net. More than his dumb candy business. He makes more money not paying his GF and saves the $190. His GF wants to be a run away slave !
Jaime has a free slave worker. He makes money because his GF does not charge him $20 per hour to work. Jaime is a fake. He has free slave and does not pay her. If she made $20. Jaime would be paying her $190 per day. He out of business. He has business plan and it says. Don’t pay your slave worker. Feed her water only and won’t let her runaway as slave.
