The More You Sew
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 9 ต.ค. 2011
Hi, I'm Jen! Welcome to "The More You Sew"!
I taught myself how to sew in 2023. When I started, I didn't even know how to thread a needle! When I got my first sewing machine, I was hooked. The process of creating something with my own hands was so gratifying...but also really, REALLY frustrating!
I made so many mistakes. I STILL make lots of mistakes. Sewing is a skill, not a genetic gift. I truly believe anyone can sew and to prove it - I'm showing you how to, as a fellow beginner!
When I'm not behind a sewing machine, I'm a wife and stay-at-home mom to my 3 children. I'm also a Christian, and that remains the most important part about me.
Thank you so much for supporting my channel. It means so much to me!

With your video I just learned how to use the machine without the foot pedal which is more comfortable for my back. Thank you!🙏 ❤
That's wonderful!! I find that people didn't mention this feature when I first started!
What's the best tension number to have it on?
I keep mine at 4 for most basic projects!
@TheMoreYouSew thank you for the quick response. ☺️
I just got my first machine, and was having trouble understanding some of the directions. This was so simple to follow, thank you! ❤
That was my goal! I'm so glad!
I am in week # 2 of a quilting class. After lots of fussing and a few tears with my 22 year old low-end machine, I decided to take the leap and buy this. Thank you so much for the videos and excellent instructions.
@raquelbraithwaite3263 This makes me so happy, thank you!
Ive got a new janome sewing machine the 740dc
I bought a walking foot
I’m a visual learner so it’s been hard for me to understand the instructions to thread my machine that I just got for Christmas. Thank you so much, and those angles are life savers. I watched a couple other videos before this one and they didn’t get as good as angles as you did here. Thank you! 🙌🏼
I'm so glad! I felt the same way when I first got my machine as well.
I literally opened my sewing machine that had been taunting me for 4 years yesterday. I have 15 pairs of jeans I’m gonna try to basket weave and practice today.
That's awesome! Sounds good.
Can you name the 70 stitches?
I can do a video on that, yes
@@TheMoreYouSew Thankyou

Just purchased this machine but it’s on back order so I’m (not so patiently) waiting for it!
@bkram123 oh no!! I bet they'll restock soon. It's definitely the best 😅
Please make more videos !! I just got the sewing machine for Christmas and I want to learn to sew!
You've got it!! What would you most like to see?
@ how to choose different sewing styles like what each button means , and a simple beginner, friendly project with the sewing machine :) if possible !
Oh and how to change the needle
@RebeccaBancarz perfect!! I'll try and get that filmed ASAP
@@RebeccaBancarz this one is later in this video!
GIRL WHAT NOTCH
Yes for real I cannot find the notch I’m supposed to hook the thread around before using the automatic needle threader but after step 5 SOS
walking foot tutorial pls!!! could you also make one explaining stitch length/width what is best for normal projects?
Yes! Absolutely. I literally had no idea what stitch length meant when I started 🤣
@ lol fair!!! i just started figuring mine out today!
Thank you!! I'm a newbie too
Great! You're definitely in the right place! Let me know what topics you'd like me to cover 😊.
Yes I would like to see a video on walking foot install, Good job
Got it! I'll add that to the list!
What tutorial do you want to see?
Could you please make one for shirring on this machine? I can’t seem to figure it out…
@simpliikeq honestly.... I haven't tried that! I could do a "let's do this together" type of thing 🤣🤣
@@TheMoreYouSewdefinitely going to just keep playing around with it, hopefully i can figure it out soon 😂😂
How to use the automatic needle threader!
@JamesOates-mm6uq I have that! Should be under "how to thread the machine" something like that!
THANK YOU!!!
You're welcome! What else do you want to go over??
What’s a bobbin thread for?
Bobbin thread is the type of thread that is used on the bottom spool of a sewing machine, located inside the bobbin case, and is responsible for creating the underside of a stitch when combined with the top thread, essentially holding the fabric together by forming a loop with the top thread as it passes through the fabric.
Yes, thanks so much for describing it so well!
Can you share a video threading the bobbin?
@@stacyyarger9566 it's in this video!
@@stacyyarger9566 yes, I can add that to my to do list!
What would the different needles be used for?
Would you be able to do a video on removing and attaching a needle?
Yes, I'll do that next!
I can definitely put that on my list!
I just posted the video if you're interested!
Super helpful thank you!
I'm so glad it helped!
Great explanation thank you!!!!
You're welcome!
Very helpful thank you!
I'm so glad you found it helpful!
Hi, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to show us this, I am a person who likes to learn from what I see rather than what I read, it must be because I was raised in Puerto Rico and had to learn English, and didn't have allot of training in the reading department but, I like reading so Thank you, also I tried placing my finger on top of the thread while it was threading the bobbin and it occurred to me, to look through the Ziplock of extra gadgets that it came with and noticed a white tool and used it instead of my finger and it was a relief ☺ then I found out it opens and it's an actual thingy to use in sewing I have to google its name 😁 and find out what is for 😂 but I also read a little the instructions and the metal that you put the thread on pulls up 🤣 oh lots to learn lots to learn🤭
You're welcome! So glad it was helpful!
Best tutorial on this. The up close camera angle was very helpful. Thank you!
I never responded but thank you so much!!
This was a great tutorial. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
🎉🎉🎉
Glad it helped!
This was so helpful!! I have been struggling with why my top stitches looked so bad, the bottom thread was visible. I've been doing this wrong.
That happened to me too!
My name is Brenda, I am on my husbands feed… but my question is that in my manual it looks like the thread comes off the spool in the front not behind like I have always seen on any other machine. I called Brother with no help from them. I might as well been talking in Chinese. I am frustrated with this machine already. Thank you
It should be behind!
😊why do you have your thread behind the spool when it shows in the manual that the thread goes in front of the spool ?
I'm pretty sure it's behind? Although watch me be doing this wrong this whole time 🤣🤣
Best video I’ve ever seen for threading a needle on this machine! Thank you so much! This helped me and you made it so easy! Very appreciative ❤
You are so very welcome!
This is wondeful. Great tutorial! Do you just leave the string out once its threaded or do you need to tie it in a knot? Complete beginner here just got a sewing machine and learning the ropes.
You just leave the thread out , but you can trim it! I'm going to start posting more videos so I hope you tune in!
super super helpful! thank you for these easy tutorials.
You are so welcome! What other topics do you want me to cover?
thanks! great tutorial
Thank you!
Thank you! This is super helpful!
I'm so glad!
there are 4 things that are most important on sweing machine review and nobody covers. 1- how high the foot goes 2-how thick a material/ how many layers can it sew 3- can it sew lether and how many sheets 4-does it have manual speed control to slow it down. the rest is unimportant.
I appreciate this, but i typically share more step by step bite sized how to videos, so I'll cover this soon!
Please keep making videos
I know you commented a long time but I'm back posting!
Thank you!!!!
You're so welcome!
Please can you make videos using each tools 😊
Hi! Could you please make a video of how to attach the walking foot and include a snippet of it in action? Thanks for the video!
Yes, absolutely! Thanks for the suggestion!
Hey! Thank you for the video!! My mom and I are wondering, does the second loop go in front or behind the needle?! We did it one time but we're having issues figuring it out again!
Hi I'm sorry, I just saw this!! Do you mean before you pull the lever back up? It's in front, towards the right!
Thanks so much for this video! Have been looking for an accessory video for my machine since I got it lol.
You're welcome! I had too!
I don’t see the whole thread.I now noticed that I used the wrong word.I was referring to the feed dogs.
Hi there! I'm not sure what question do you mean?
Wow thank you so much!! I’m an absolute beginner and more of a visual learner and this video helped me a ton in getting started, thanks so much for taking the time to make this! Xx
I'm so glad to hear this!!
Just curious, did you lower the feet under the table?
I'm so sorry, I didn't see this comment until now! I'm not entirely sure what you mean. The machine is just on a table but I didn't lower the feet?
