    I have just seen an ad over here in France for a new Midway at 740 euros. I am very tempted as I have a river just next to the house and fancy getting a bit of exercise. A year on from your video, do you still find the Midway tippy or was that just unfamiliarity. at the beginning. Would you still recommend it as a good canoe?

      Its designed to go in a straight line fast so it doesn't turn well. You need a wide river unless you are happy to do a 3 point turn. Lol..... But I've not had it on the sea where it might be better at turning

    Well I finally got to maiden my midway yesterday. Launched with my legs out but it didn't take long for me to fall out even with my legs out. I was surprised at how tippy it was/is. It was a smidge better with the delux seat removed. I spent the morning doing self rescue practice but it was all good fun. Video to follow including the loss of our GoPro. Oh and I lost a scupper plug too. But to be fair water intake at stand still isn't a great deal and it drains the minute you get moving again

    From all the puffing and panting I think you have the wrong kind of paddle. You should be using a touring paddle not a power paddle. You make more strokes with a touring paddle but you get less tried. Power paddles are for white water for surf where you need that extra speed. On a river or flat seas and you're looking for distance touring paddle is better. Look for something like a Werner Baja.

    You need straps for that trolley. There not much good and design for touring kayaks not sit on's. A lazy boy with scupper supports works best with sit on's, but a cheap one off ebay does a job.

    Just remembered you have the high comfort seat. Try paddling without it and see if your stability improves. I went for the deluxe as the COG is around 1 inch lower. A guy on a kayak forum has an RTM Tempo and he like you has the comfort seat and he fell out straight away. He removed the seat and it was solid. Just to to be sure he fitted it again and the same thing happened.

    • @mikelink5101
      @mikelink5101 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, the first time I used it I didn't have any seat fitted and yet still went straight over. I maintain what I am saying. It performs well in a straight line but it is very tippy. If I was to get into a normal sit in side kayak, it's not as tippy as this is. In fact all the time I am paddling I feel like I could tip over which is something I don't feel in a normal kayak. I do wonder.... Why did North Sea kayaks stop using them and switch to sit in kayaks.

      @@mikelink5101 He/They did use them for 6 years though. Changed for skills development etc. I did ask him about tippyness but he said not at all? I'll find out myself one day. I don't think you could cross the English channel in a Midway. I'll be paddling ours across to the isle of wight though eventually as we can go from Lepe to Gurnard. I know it's possibly as someone went across in a scupper pro. Have you seen Codbothers Midway videos? A guy on there says it's a but tippy aswell. I think it's stability will come into its own on choppy sea. As your taking it along the coast of death I'd say you'll be glad with its ability 👍

    Excellent stuff 👍. Done alright, you say it's tippy but you looked solid. Turning is one of the compromises with this kayak for straight line performance. I've gone with Lomo two piece adjustable paddles and using our 4 piece Intex paddles as spares and will use the Lomo as spare when we upgrade.
