Last Stitch Effort Episode 21- Another Shetland Solstice and some handspun!
Happy Halloween! 🎃 I've been inspired with my knitting lately, which feels good. I'm working my way through a few wips that I started earlier this year but lost steam on over the summer.
I saw Cure in 1990 and Nirvana maybe 1991? It was a long time ago.😁😁😁. 💗💗
I got grounded right before the 93 Nirvana tour and couldn't go- One of the biggest regrets of my life and also why I'm super careful about grounding my kid! I have a friend that goes to the Cure every single time they tour the states. I'm so jealous, but I'm not really a crowd person. The 90's really had the BEST music, huh?❤
Love all your finished makes! And can’t wait to see Ngaio’s blanket come to life. ❤
Thanks, Alisha! I'm sure you will see more of the process than you bargained for!
That sea glass sweater is STUNNING 😍
Thank you! Looking at other people's projects, I can't help but think it's fool proof. You can't really mess it up!
That was quite good pronunciation. Its Bar-een brack. It's a fruit bread with raisins and fruit peel. Its Irish and I remember having it in autumn. It used to have a all ring baked into it so we always wanted to get it in our slice. I presume they don't do that anymore in case someone chokes
Good to know! I'm sure I will mess it up next time, though! Irish is a bit tricky for me. I love those old traditions of randomly adding chokeable things to food- Good fortune or restricted airway or both!
I do tracings of my niece and nephew's feet too! And it's what my grandmother always did when she knit us those slippers you've been making! :)
It is cuter than just a bunch of numbers! I'm pretty sure I have a tracing of my daughter's toddler foot somewhere and she will be an adult in 2 weeks- so it's a nice little keepsake! I need to find it and put it in her baby book! I love a classic knit. My grandmother didn't knit much but I remember her making those slippers sometimes! Shared experiences are the best!!
I love the lower contrast in the Framed, but you need to make your decision based on what you will love and wear! ❤ the Monsters are so freakin cute!!! 🥰 way to knock out some stash and stay true to your values.
I think your little monsters need some monsters, too!
I like the low contrast colourwork. It's really pretty.
Thank you! I usually prefer the color contrast work, too.
Picasha you look stunning today! Let those ends fly! I don’t follow the rules concerning ends and blocking. I’ve actually got hats that were never blocked😮! 😘😘😘
I am totally coming over there and putting your Framed on a bigger cable 🤣🤣🤣…. Jk, Jk ❤ except for I’ll just bring a cable the next time we knit. Happiest of Birthdays to you!! It makes me happy seeing you so happy 😃
Thank you! Hope it's not too wacko of an episode! 😂
I'm knitting while watching this, and Happy Birthday!!🎉❤
Your penchant for using up small balls and single skeins of yarn has inspired me to find and knit patterns that have (or could accommodate) color blocking. I have some vintage acrylic/silk blend (is that even a thing now?) that I'm working on a two color tank top with. ❤
The small balls feel so good to use up! I'm so curious about the acrylic/silk! I imagine it being super drapey and perfect for a tank! Let me know how it's going!!!!
Great hanging out with you and hearing about your makes. I'm currently working on knitting a hat. Just at the ribbing so I have not settled on a pattern just yet.
Hello! Have you settled on a pattern for your hat? It's been a minute since your comment, so I imagine you have! I can't wait to hear more about it! That feeling when the ribbing is done and there is nothing but possibility and potential is exciting and the BEST part other than actually finishing it!
Live your passion! It's ok to hug your yarn!! ❤🤗💞🧶
Congrats on your first year!!!! Your handspun is so lovely! I always find it so hard to use mine, often getting stuck looking for the RIGHT project. I think it's time for me to Just Keep Swimming...
Thank you! Handspun is so precious and I really struggle to use it too! I've regretted a few decisions for like, a minute! But life is too short and fortunately there is always more handspun yarn to make!
A year of doing literally anything is a huge accomplishment, congrats!! 🎉 Last week you inspired me to start a smaller project, and I finished a headscarf / hair band design that I want to perfect to wear in summer.😊
OH! Did you use a particular pattern or yarn? I LOVE practical little things! Those little wins feel SO GOOD!
Thank you so much Sarah! You always have the best pearls of wisdom and say what I'm thinking in such an elegant way. I thought about the Woolly Thistle KAL but I'm not doing well with deadlines lately! 😂 Are you doing it? ❤
Every time I see a Faire Isle knit I think of you and your talent. Are you participating in the Woolly Thistle vest KAL? Finding something that gives you purpose or a reason to keep moving is THE MOST ADAPTIVE thing you can do! I believe that we have a primitive need to have purpose in life. Without it we can be lost, depressed, anxious, angry and lethargic. I admire you.😘
If you need more scraps I'm happy to toss my stash of leftovers and send a few!
Laura! That's too kind! I think I will manage and I'm kinda looking forward to the challenge to knit a bit more mindfully, if that makes sense! Thank you so much for offering and I hope your knitting/spinning parts are healthy and working well soon! (I'm behind on your podcasts so hopefully you are 100% now!)
Hi there. Referred by your friend. I’m from New Mexico too. I live in Utah.
Hello! Welcome and thank you for commenting! I've never been to Utah and would love to visit someday- so many beautiful places to see!
Hey beautiful lady!!! How are you? I wear a size 5.5 narrow shoe…I don’t know anyone with feet near my size. I’m 4’11”. How tall are you? I wish that I had a cool person to meet for coffee and knit.💗💗💗
Hello my lovely Sarah! I used to wear 5-5.5 until I got pregnant with my daughter! It makes it fun to find shoes! But I had a few fun pairs of kid's shoes back then! Some light up rainbow colored platform sandals, no less!! I'm 5'2". Yay for us shorties!! I do not take it for granted to have knitting friends now! I hope you can find your RL knitting bestie someday. I'm so glad you are my YT knitting friend though!!
I know things are still stressful and tough for you and your community, but it's great to see you back making videos. You appear excited about your projects and your future plans - yay! ❤ I'm uninspired by my current project bc I need to go back and fix a mistake, which is like a mental block for me. 😢 So, you've inspired me to start a new one just so I'm knitting again. 😊
Thank you, Kristin! It feels good to be properly distracted and enjoying life for a bit! I totally feel you on being stuck after mistakes. It's so hard to get over the hump and just fix it and it always feels great to do it... but that doesn't change the fact that it is annoying and draining and BLAH! Sometimes a new start helps rev up that energy and things get DONE!
I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize that you were in crisis. I heard you mention the fires and flooding, but somehow I didn’t get the impact on you. I’m sending you fleecy hugs. Again, I’m boo sorry.
It was so good to see your beautiful face this morning while I am knitting miles away… I love all your projects, as usual. ❤and tears for our community and for you, you’re such a great friend and have the biggest heart. I am so grateful for you! ❤
I'm so sorry to hear, but glad to see you're safe. Good luck in helping friends through and town recovery efforts. PS Your handspun cowl is gorgeous!
Such a tragic and stressful event to have to experience, especially since it was intentional. Sad to hear about your mother and your friend. Our prayers are with you and your townsfolk and a shit load of bad karma for the perpetrator.
💜💜
This is so tough, I'm very sorry for you, your family, and everyone in your area. I'm grateful you didn't lose your home, but what a long road to build back your community. 😢💔
❤
A terrible challenge. Glad you are safe, glad you're back in your house.
So sorry to hear about the fires, how scary and glad your alright! The Traveler's Cowl looks amazing! Slinky is sweet I don't mind any noises especially from a cute cat!
Dinner tonight was hamburgers on the grill. The bun was nicely toasted on the cut side but the tops were still soft. I had onions, pickles and ketchup on mine. Hubby had onions and ketchup. The shawl is just beautiful. The red socks were cute. I hope the fire stays far far away from you and yours.
Dinner tonight: hot dogs... because sometimes really, really simple stuff is amazing. 💁😁
Thank you so much for researching the stitch motif of your red socks! I've already jumped over to Ravelry and purchased the pattern. I don't know why I'd overlooked that design in the past - I own several of her patterns and they're all beautiful. Good luck with the wildfires. I hope it's contained quickly.
You've inspired me to make a knit bandana... I'm not sure why I've never made one, especially because I regularly wear bandanas on my head/hair in summer or hot weather. Thanks for the idea!
Enjoyed your episode today. I especially love the red socks! The color and pattern are perfect together. I'd really like to make a pair of socks with a similar pattern. Can you give me any more information about the stitch motif? Is it just knits, purls, YO's and decreases? I'd be happy to buy the pattern if you can think of the name or where you found it. Thanks so much!
Thank you! I'm actually looking that up right now so I can share on the next podcast. I hope I can find the info somewhere. Its just a chart in my notebook at this point but I know it is a real pattern- somewhere!
Your shawl is effing *gorgeous*!!! GORGEOUS!! I love it and good for you for pivoting and using all stash to knock that shawl out. It is going to be ahmazing when you finish. Love all the projects you shared, they’re so good ❤
Thank you, m'dear! I'm so close!!!
Hi
Hello!
Hi thankyou
I'm working on some really simple knit shawls and one crochet shawl. I want to try my hand at a PI shawl. Have you made one? I love the red socks! I looked up the tart color way and I think it's gorgeous! I like some of the smaller scarves for fall and spring as it can be quite chilly yet. Our days are in the low 70s (perfect) but the nights are in the 40s and the air is chilly and the small scarf is great. I hope you enjoyed the fair. The head covering is something I would keep in my glove box for unexpected weather changes.
I would love to make a HUGE crochet shawl to keep at my knitting spot on the couch! Alas, my crochet skills are not great. Do you have a pattern or recipe you are following? I've made 2 pi shawls, both Zimmermann construction. They are amazing both plain and as a blank canvas! And I think keeping my little cap in my car for emergencies might be the perfect idea!! ❤️
@@PacashaYoungerI have to confess that I don't use a pattern. I've been crocheting for so long, my hands know what to do 😂 I did look on youtube for a simple pattern and will attach it. I would suggest not moving the yarn like she does. Crochet flows nicely, like knitting. I hope you do make one. I hope this works: th-cam.com/video/Q4F3W_hfR9Y/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Hi that pretty
Thank you so much!
You welcome
Yes, I do need to knit a Ranunculus! Haha 😂it will happen one day ❤
Hi! your ranunculus shirt looked beautiful! You have knitted with 10 needles? wow! I will try it!
Thank you so much! I used 10s for everything except the bottom hem and the arm ribbing where I used 8s!
I adore knitting with plant fibers, mainly because that way the finished product is wearable in three seasons for me. So, I might try out that myrtle. Those yarns can be hellish to knit, but it's worth it IMO 😊
I would LOVE to know your favorite plant fiber yarns to use! They really would suit my climate, too! I've had great success with Drops Belle on my first Ranunculus. I'd like to give Knitpicks cotlin another try. Do you have favorite patterns as well?
It must be that time of the year. It seems a lot of us lost our knitting mojo. If you have enough of the red yarn, you could make the bat cowl by Beth Knox. I've made several but I am batty about bats. I hope you have a wonderful week.
Aw man, I don't have enough yardage for that- but I'm putting it in my queue anyway because I'm batty about bats, too!! Thank you for the awesome suggestion!
@@PacashaYounger I hope you find a beautiful yarn to make yourself one or two 🙂
I, also, use grapefruit seltzer to get through allergy season. 😂
we do what we gotta do!!
I like that you’ve shared your feelings about your projects, and you’re not necessarily over the moon with them… I think that’s such a normal part of the making process to have fun and exciting feelings to cast on and then get into a lull where it is not so exciting anymore. You sharing gives space for that experience and I so appreciate you being authentic! ❤ love your makes!
Commenting ❤
Just found you and I did enjoy it very much
Thank you so much! Welcome!
Those are great mittens! Anything out of stash is progress, and progress is progress!
Glue the DPNs? 😅
To my hands!!
