Wow that engine needs MrClean!
This product is not designed to clean your engine, it's designed to clean your bottom piston ring, called the oil control ring, and the ring land, the groove it sits in. You mentioned checking your oil level while running this oil, THAT'S what this oil is designed to do, clean up the bottom ring and stop/slow the oil bypassing the ring and burning up in the combustion chamber. Anything else that gets clean from the use of this oil is just secondary. Looking forward to updates on your progress :)
Hey Donh! Thanks for stopping by! I’m really hoping those secondary benefits will somehow make a difference on the timing chain too hahaha. It’s a stretch but what is life without some curiosity? Glad to have you join in the journey! 😃
This is great info, I'll go pick up a jug to have on hand for the next oil change! I'm already about halfway through my first go with the Valvoline R&P, over 2000 miles on it (I'd have to look at exactly how many miles) but I plan on taking it up to 5000 like normal.
It says on the bottom, limit six rebates per customer
Hey BlueJean! Been a minute since I’ve heard from you. Hope you’re doing well! I missed that detail about the rebate. I’m going to call that out in my pinned comment! Thanks!
its a one time thing?
As far as I was able to do anyway. Idk
@@trilingualkid another viewer found that the rebate limit is 6 units!
@@MidwestF150 so 30 bucks if you buy $180 worth?
@@trilingualkid I haven’t tried it, but that’s what it sounds like!
@@MidwestF150 I might do it!
The only reason I don’t use it is because Saudi Aramco now owns Valvoline. While most companies are multinational and who knows who owns the stock, I’ll take my money elsewhere.
Hey modelb, thanks for stopping by!
Fixen to have this 5w30 RPin my 20 2.7 4wd F150 next change.
Let me know how it goes! And good luck!
@MidwestF150 I will try sir
Thanks Brotha! I bought a jug a couple of days ago.
Back in May VRP was 24.99 5 qt. jug. I bought every 5w20 jug Wally world had lol. I was at Autozone recently, they wanted Stupid prices for VRP.
It’s getting pretty pricey nowadays, right?
Anything is stupid prices at Autozone
Now i gotta try and find my reciept lol
Hahaha yeah!
Bro thanks for sharing !
Hey bro! I didn’t believe it but sure enough I got the $5 lol
UPDATE: learned after updating the video that the rebate is limit to 6 jugs! Thanks for stopping by! If you enjoyed this content, please consider subscribing!
I'm confused. Is the borescope images results from being partially through the 2nd go of Restore and Protect ??
Hi Richard, thanks for stopping by! Yes. Sorry I didn’t make that clear in the video. We are on the 2nd go of Restore & Protect. Video is 250 miles in on second round. I didn’t have borescope footage before today because I was struggling to find a good one. Moving forward, I will be able to do that. And we can use this video to establish our baseline. Does that help? Sorry again.
Not trying to give you homework, but wonder...is the cord too short to run thru & attach to the grill? Or is there a cord extension available that would allow you to plug in w/o popping the hood?
@@petehagen9294 hi Pete! Thanks for the tip! The end connected to the battery is too short to run thru the grill. Also, there are shutters that open/close right behind the grill (for aerodynamic purposes, I think!). I worry the shutter might get caught onto the cable.
@MidwestF150 you got me curious...here's what Gemini says about the shutters, "The shutters on the front grill of a Ford F-150 are called active grille shutters. They are designed to improve fuel efficiency and aerodynamics. Here's how they work: * When the vehicle is moving at highway speeds: The shutters close, reducing the amount of air that flows through the front of the truck. This reduces aerodynamic drag, which improves fuel economy. * When the vehicle needs to cool down: The shutters open, allowing more air to flow through the radiator and cool the engine. This is important during stop-and-go traffic, towing, or when the engine is under heavy load. By automatically adjusting the airflow through the front of the truck, the active grille shutters help to improve both fuel economy and engine performance."
IMO the fill port is not a good spot to judge of what the oil is doing. The only action in the fill port is from you pouring oil in there. Invest in a scope and get it down in the engine if you want to see what the oil is doing.
@@Yipykia hi Yipykia, thanks for stopping by! You should check out my two last videos. I got that scope now! 🥳
Dang that’s dirty but I’m sure you can definitely clean it up if you do flushes with other products but it’s nice to see what R&P can do shoot maybe valvoline will see this and send you some free oil lol
Hahahah hey bro! Yeah that would be pretty amazing. I’ve been trying to document this journey as frequent as possible, so hopefully folks get value out of it hahaha
Damn that filthy lol
I know right? Haha
Good baseline video. Don't use anything to flush if you want to see how effective the R&P is. Seafoam will just boil off as it's flash point is at a low 55 degree F and according to Lake Speed Jr., will cause water contamination in the oil. Looks like clean spots are starting to open up in the crud. If the clear spots get bigger, R&P is cleaning. It will be interesting to see the changes in the clean spots after a couple of oil changes. Here is a Lake Speed Jr. video on oil and fuel additives. He talks about Seafoam at 28:12. "Don't put Seafoam in anything you care about" - Lake Speed Jr. th-cam.com/video/CvkK-dShtM0/w-d-xo.html
@@usocrazy6133 hey brother, thanks! I wanted to run the borescope deeper but I’m worried I might get it stuck in there.. and then that’ll be the end of this channel lol But you’re right, it’s a good baseline video. Now we can monitor if it’s working!
@@MidwestF150 On your truck's engine, you also have a good baseline. You will be able to tell if R&P maintains the cleanliness. That engine looks factory new. How many miles are on the truck?
@ hey thanks bro! It’s currently 65K miles!
Make sure you maintain the fuel system, just as important as the oil. The video talks about fuel system cleaners. I don't think you will have any problems with the engine going 500K. No guarantees on the frame holding up against Rust Belt road salt. It looks like you have that addressed too. Nice work!
Man I don’t know what fuel treatment to use or if it’s worth it for me. My truck calls for regular unleaded but I’ve been running premium on it since getting it
Has the PCV valve been replaced on this vehicle??? 🤔
Hi Voiairwolf, thanks for stopping by! No not yet! Are you thinking it could be the culprit to the timing chain issue?
@MidwestF150 Well not exactly..... if the PCV valve is stuck in the open position, the vehicle will drink oil rapidly. I was more concerned about the oil consumption than the timing issue. I think the timing issue may fix it self with continued use of R&P but that may take a few oil changes to accomplish.
@@voiairwolfhmmm I think you’re on to something! I’ll take a look at it once the weather gets warm. Or maybe I’ll do it in my livestream on Saturday.
Yeah give it some thought 👍👍 It may be something easy and quick you could possibly change. I'm sure there are guides on TH-cam on how to do it. I'm currently using R&P in two vehicles, and I really like it so far.
@@voiairwolf one thing I didn’t mention is the code the Sentra is throwing is P0011, which means timing is too advanced. Do you think a faulty PCV valve can somehow trigger this code?
good video! maybe before the next oil change, add like a half a bottle of sea foam high mileage to the oil maybe to get rid of the sludge and varnish. like 300 miles before the oil change
Hey Mike - thanks for stopping by! I’m kinda worried Seafoam might be too aggressive on it. What are your thoughts?
@@MidwestF150 you have a great point!! the way i see it, you are already running a great product, maybe the seafoam will help it a little more, but its your channel, whatever you post i will watch!
@@Mike-Capz83hey Mike! Thank you for always tuning in! I appreciate you!! Let me think more about it tho! I’m just worried how fragile this engine is given its age haha. But I’ll definitely think about it!
@@MidwestF150 i would give it a shot because if you have to do the timing and such, what do you have to lose
@@Mike-Capz83do you think it is safe on seals and gaskets? Would I pour the whole bottle in?

@@teslamr7333 oh wow. I’ve been buying quite a few bottles lol
Hey, can you do the following please. 1. check inside the oil fill port on empty engine AFTER oil drain but BEFORE new oil come in. 2. check on EMPTY engine via oil drain plug if dipstick pipe is too narrow for a borescope/camera end 3. do not clean sludge on top of the port and leave it alone till you finish 4th oil cycle at least. keep it up man 4. cut oil filter with all others to check difference - this obvious probably. 5. take oil sample and send it to Motor Oil geek if he accepts for analysis.

Hey Mandy, thanks for stopping by! I don’t think you’re wrong at all. Do you have a recommendation on what part of the engine I can look to track the VRP’s progress?
Did you take a before and after picture of your dipstick?
@@roberttravis9527 hi Robert, thanks for stopping by! I unfortunately do not. I didn’t think it was a good data point since it was clean.
Just started running this in my vehicle which has the Chrysler 3.6 Pentastar engine and around 33,000 miles. While there has been robust discussion in every corner of the internet about what this oil claims to do and how effective it seems to be at cleaning, what remains unanswered is the long-term effects it will have. Is it really safe to run indefinitely or is this something you should run for 4-5 OCI's and then go back to a "regular" premium synthetic? What effect will the magic molecules in this lubricant have long term on seals, gaskets, internal plastics & rubbers, turbos, etc? Nobody really knows. I feel like Valvoline neglected to do any real long-term testing of this oil...they discovered its effectiveness at cleaning and sent it to market. I'd also like to hear more about the "79% better wear protection" claim on the bottle. That's what long-term users will care about - once my engine is clean does R&P offer any protection advantage over competing oils? If not, guys like me with young, low-mile engines might be better served using something else.
Hey Buley, thanks for stopping by! I had sent an email to Valvoline to see if the Restore & Protect can be used longterm. They said it can be used indefinitely. I think the 4-5 OCI we are seeing and hearing refers to the number of intervals when folks could expect to see the cleaning effect-but I can be wrong, not an expert. I think you pose ALOT of great points. I think Valvoline does a great job of responding to folks who reach out to them via email, phone. Ultimately, I’m not an expert and would defer to Valvoline to provide you solid answers.
@@MidwestF150 While I don't have an Ecoboost, I will be following your progress with it. Great video!

Hey Chris! I’ll see what I can do! Haha
Plus when you get a camera check your intake valves and your brother’s Nissan intake valves.
I think I can do intake on Sentra. Not sure how to do it for F-150. Might have to wait until summer. Or at least when weather is warmer. I don’t want to turn what could be a 30 minute job into 4 days lol
why would the oil clean the top of the pistons. I can see the side of the pistons being touched by oil but the top on the piston where you would see by pulling out the spark plug does not get touched by oil unless the truck is burning oil?
It would just be fun. I mean, if I had one of these cameras I’d stick it in my ear and see if I could see my brain. Which people don’t think I have. If I could only prove them wrong……
