Ma this takes me back when my abuelita use to make this but if you dont wash the rice she would pull your hair and slap your face. Rest in Paradise Lordes. I wash my rice always.

Please don’t use metal on metal, 😮use a wooden or plastic spoon.
Half gallon of water only is only 8 cups of water. That isn’t enough for 16 cups of rice.

This is a beautiful recipe. I am not Puerto Rican but I went there on vacation once. I will never forget the big pot of rice and beans on the stove and the generosity of the people.
I would love to make this but a smaller portion. Would you have exact measurements for about 6 quarts in a Dutch oven?
I make rice and beans all the time. I always drain and rinse my beans that come from out the can I put onions green peppers red peppers scallions fresh garlic and I wash my rice before I add it to the other stuff. Rice has a lot of starch

Gandules have to be in proportioned to the rice. Not (2) cans for (16)cups of rice ???😢😅
This is not authentic Puerto Rican " arroz con gandules " gandules are fresh or frozen, no powered synthetic stuff,. All real or natural ingredients only . 😢😮😮😮

When I make a large rice dish I usually finish it in the oven...it always burns in the stovetop for me, even if the heat is medium/low. Looks good, would like to try it.

Te diré así se hace el arroz con gandules. No como lo venden en restaurantes que no son Boricuas , jinchos y con pocos gandules.En esas hoyas es que queda bien Bueno. A mi me gusta me quede verdecito,le pongo cilantro en hoja opcional.Ah y con aceite con achiote. Así lo hacían nuestras abuelas. No había nada de sobresitos. Ha puro ajo,cebolla,cilantro,cilantro y manteca con achiote.👍🇵🇷
