This was a fundraiser. During Covid there were many fundraisers in the Broadway community for the backstage folks and the chorus people who lost their income. The pianist wrote the songs for both Wicked and The Prince of Egypt and many more. Shoshana Bean was the second Broadway Elphabeh and was nominated for a Tony in Alicia Key's new musical. They are friends and did concerts together. This Seder, which had several Broadway stars raised about half a million dollars at the time. And yes, everone was shut in.

I really love Michelle Yeoh as an actress but I think Jon Chu could have picked someone with a much better voice to play Madame Morrible. Literally my only gripe with the entire thing, especially because The Wizard and I is my favorite song from the entire show.

Glinda can't be blamed for the state of the world. Her popularity is her power. Elphaba recognizes it after she gets past the vapid nature of that fact. She realizes that together, they have everything to make them the greatest team there's ever been.

Glinda was 100% sad and grieving Elphaba, judging by her facial expressions during this whole part and how she jumped at the opportunity to tell the story to the munchkins to TRY and get them to see Elphabas perspective but they weren't really listening so Glinda realizes she alone is the only one grieving over her bestfriend and also her own actions that led her to losing her bestfriend.

Glinda was genuinely trying to let Boq down, but by offering another girl its more of a soft blow. lol

I love Elphaba, and like so many others, deeply feel the injustice you talk about as well. As some consolation - without giving you any spoilers - when you do see the movie which is part one, look closely at ALL of the expressions on Glinda’s face as she sings/speaks the official public line about who’s wicked and what they deserve as a punishment for wickedness. Ask yourself whether you think she actually believes what she’s saying in this number.

oh believe me, glinda was as sad as you, and when she sings about how the wicked die alone she’s most likely talking about herself because she feels wicked for choosing her status over her friend.

Ariana was incredible!!! She was born to play this role and she knew it!! The beauty she and Cynthia displayed during this time has been palpable and beautiful. Cynthia does the same in defying gravity. These are my favorite songs of the entire soundtrack.

Who is Glinda singing about “wicked are lonely “? Think.

My understanding is the book is about "someone born different and treated poorly can be driven to wickedness." The musical pays lip service to the idea with "are people born wicked or is wickedness thrust upon them," but is *far* more a story about propaganda and how public sentiment can be driven to hate without any real cause. Also, if you're looking into Dear Evan Hansen songs to compare, the song Requiem has a line like "when the villain falls, the kingdoms never weep" which is literally just "no one mourns the wicked" lol.

The guy who wrote Wicked wrote the sons for Disney's Prince of Egypt. Shoshana and Cynthia Erivo are good friends and did Christmas concerts at the Apollo. Shoshana replaced Idina Menzel as Elphabeh on Broadway. She also just left Alicia Key's Broadway musical. There is a video of her singing "Pawn it All" with Keys at the piano that will blow your head off. Thank you for the reaction. Ms Bareilles wrote an incredible song and though both have beautiful voices, I honestly think Sara has the better voice, but isn't the better singer. "Make it rain" live by Shoshana is somehow a better permormance.
