Very spotty this year. Just a few hundred yards from that stand and nothing. Some places I hunt don't have a single scorn this year

That is the most ridiculous generalization I’ve ever heard. Anyone I know that I drive deer with is perfectly capable of identifying what they’re shooting at. If you need to sit on a foodplot and watch a deer for 30 mins with binoculars to tell if it’s a fawn or an adult deer than go ahead, but that’s not necessary for most hunters

I hunt alone a lot myself, but those opening day parties are the best for sure.

We all hunt small tiny tracts of highly pressured private land with no food plots and hunt big woods public all the time. Not sure what you mean by doesn’t count but hopefully we’ll be as good as you are some day

@@scorch006 I’m not a better hunter than anyone I’m sure your a better hunter than me I guess I was to harsh I know it takes a lot of work to maintain a plot I guess I see what you’re saying it’s hard work both way private or public I agree

It takes years to be good at something a lot of years but what matters is that we enjoy the experience

I’m not sure what state you’re in but in the area I hunt in NY the population is way down compared to when I was younger. Some of my best spots from years ago only hold a couple turkeys anymore. Most of the birds we got this year are on farmland with good populations. I’m hoping it bounces back here in coming years.

@@scorch006 no I haven’t. Just down home here on private land. I basically just started turkey hunt a few yrs ago. Up at my camp up there, there’s isn’t that many as compared to others areas. But I hope to do it someday

Gotcha. My aunt has a place up there on marquette island. Ive never seen any turkeys but have heard it use to be great deer hunting and snowshoe rabbit hunting in that area.

@@scorch006 yes deer hunting used to be great until the wolfs showed up and are state won’t do a thing about it and if something doesn’t happen soon we can kiss and deer hunting goodbye. There really never was turkey by us until about 10-12 yrs ago. You see them once in awhile but not consistently so I was going to wait some yrs before I try it. Plus I live 6 hrs away so I can continue to keep scouting g go or them

Small game season goes thru the end of February. Mid March for hate in the northern zone

You’re right, I noticed that too when I got home. I made a good shot on a doe a few days before this and I had shot once at the beginning of the season to check it. I probably should have run a brush down through before I went back out.

@@scorch006 I smacked 2 does this year holiday season on Saturday the 30th and then missed a coyote on my 3rd shot on Sunday. I usually put about 3 shots through them before I take them apart and clean them but usually the accuracy holds up till then.

@@scorch006 buck that shed its rack wont stand there in open and let you shoot 3 times without it running away. That was definitely a fawn😋😂🤣

Actually that’s not the case. Often times bucks especially mature ones freeze and don’t run unless they are certain where the danger came from. Not saying this was a mature buck but 100% not a fawn. Watch the video on my channel from last gun season where my buddy shoots a big buck that stands like a statue after his first shot misses.

@@scorch006 maybe on the game preserves you hunt. The high pressure hunted deer will bolt and head for the nearest cover. If they are already in thick cover they still move on the shot but will stop again to look around here before they leave altogether.

Try hunting southern Ohio public land or upstate NY during gun season and I think you’ll find your experience a little different than a game preserve. That being said, I’ve never hunted a preserve so I guess I’ll have to take your word on what that’s like.
