There was never a Russian flag held by the French in the movie. So that thumbnail is a total lie. Besides some historical inaccuracies it's a great film. Yes they could have done better with some things but it's still a top-tier film.

History or not. The film is just boring. Worst film I have seen in years. Not worth trying to analyse why. Entertainment? Hardly!

I don't see how the 13 Vendémiaire scene is an issue. It takes place fairly early in the film, well before he is crowned. Ultimately, the film isn't great, but it's at least entertaining, to an extent. I personally wish they would have focused more on his battles and tactics, rather than producing was feels like yet another British smear campaign, as a good portion of the film is devoted to exposing the man's insecurities and making him a parody of himself. Of course, Ridley Scott is British, which may explain why they put so much effort into the Waterloo Battle scenes. However, it seems like a waste of an opportunity, to film a Napoleon biopic, only to include a few mediocre battle scenes.

You might be the brightest historian in the planet and a proponent of realism. But don’t tell a master how to make movies! There were so many symbolism in the movies. For example by shooting canon ball to pyramid the director showed Napoleon was not so respectful to Egyptian culture.

In the film he’s not emperor yet when they squash the rebellion, and exactly like you said an advisor convinced them to let Napoleon lead the siege of Toulon. At least watch the film before making this crap

Napoleon is one joker of a movie. It's laughable at best.

Napoleon was not at Paris when the former queen was killed. The Italian campaing made him famous, not Toulon nor fighting the revolts in Paris. There was no bombardment on the Pyramids. Napoleon as a poor peasent reviewing the camp at Austerlitz? Napoleon did not lead cavaly charges, less at Borodino. He never met Wellington. And these are only some of the grotesc errors of this pathetic movie. Cinema requires cuts and "permissions", but this is too much. Napoleon appears a boaring person, lack of magnetism, no charisma. It is not a love movie, not a historical movie, not an epic movie. It is a shame.

While the new Napoleon movie may not have been the greatest, the storm of new British & American content on him here on TH-cam makes up for it 😂 How Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix managed to get Napoleon so wrong despite literally having so much knowledge about him is crazy. There is an intelligent Movie to be made in English about Napoleon Bonaparte I, and the French culture, and this isn't it. Never let the British cover French history. Same with Greece. If I want historical accuracy I read history books or watch documentaries. If I want entertainment BASED on historical events I watch movies.

So many people have trashed this movie because of some misplaced or misguided historical facts. Is a Hollywood movie produced for pure entaintainment, or for documentary purposes? I for one go to a movie theater for pure entertainment, not to learn about the historical events of the past. For that, one can turn on channels like History, National Geo, Discovery, and the like.

I enjoyed this film yes it could have been better and made completely accurate but let's be honest it is a film, not a documentary Braveheart wasn't accurate Titanic wasn't accurate, etc but both were great films this film was more focused on the strange relationship with his wife and made Napoleon feel more human than just another historical figure movie based on war.

With Ridley Scott's ,money spent on this movie, it could have been great. Sadly it is crap. Once again Hollywood makes a mockery of history. Best skip this flick.

This movie is is insulting to everyone who even has a basic understanding of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Era. The writing of and portrayal of Napoleon was cartoonishly shallow. Josephine, who survived the Reign of Terror, did so much for French culture, was treated like a whore. This movie will go down in cinematic history as an example of how not to do a historical biopic. 0.5/10 👎

At least people can learn something from the movie, from Marvels you learn nothing.
