A collection of my grandpas cine reels taken around Scotland through the 60's & 70's.
Cine film is the term commonly used in the UK and historically in the US to refer to the 8 mm, Super 8, 9.5 mm, and 16 mm motion picture film formats used for home movies.
These reels are all 8mm, converted using the Kodak Reels Film Digitizer.

Falls of Gartness
This reel is labelled 'Falls of Gartness'
The film also shows a stop in Drymen.
Also known as the Pots of Gartness.
The Pots of Gartness are a series of rocky pools on the Endrick Water to the west of Killearn in Stirlingshire.
Featured in a number of poems and songs and even rumoured to have inspired the famous mathematician John Napier, the Pots of Gartness offers a lovely walk in the countryside that can easily be done in a day.

This reels notes are 'Clyde Tunnel South & North' The Clyde Tunnel is a crossing beneath the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland for road traffic, cyclists and pedestrians. Two parallel tunnel tubes connect the districts of Whiteinch to the north and Govan to the south in the west of the city. Opened 3 July 1963

This reels notes are simply 'Glasgow Zoo' and looks to have been filmed in the early 1960's. The zoo was established in 1947 by the Zoological Society of Glasgow and West of Scotland, which was itself established in 1936. The zoo was located on the lands of the former Calderpark Estate, and during its peak attracted about 140,000 visitors a year. At the zoo's peak it contained over 600 animals ...

Thankfully that place was shut down, distressed animals
They all look bored, and stressed out as fuck. Almost every single video i've seen of the polar bear habitat one is doing some strange head shaking motion whilst stepping backwards. The chimp habitat too, was that it? Or was there another part to it aside from the indoor section, looks awful. And the amount of litter, holy shit.
Cheers. Grandpa spent a lot of time and money on his hobby. I'm so glad he did, These Cine Reels are priceless. What became of him?
