I have been doing Colorguard for 10 years now and in this video I am 16 years old. I do have quite a bit of dance background- roughly 18 years- which helps a lot with choreo. I’d say watch guard videos slowly and pick out a move or two that you like and learn it from watching it over and over. That is what I do. Or freestyle to a whole bunch of different kinds of music and feel the beat. Let you body and flag do whatever it wants to do, don’t think about it. No routine comes together without the moves matching the music. If there is a hard hit of base- do a huge toss. If there is flows music-do flowing moves that are light and delicate. And I thank you for your praise about warriors. That was actually my first ever competed piece, I was a sophomore in high school. I had practiced for 5 hours a day for a month in advance, and it really did pay off. And I know coaches say this a lot but practice practice practice. And cover the basics a lot because you can’t learn big and cool moves that look clean if the basics aren’t clean. Hopefully this helps!🤍

Practice practice practice!! And if you do t have flawless basics you will never have a flawless routine. Also find the rhythm of the music and hit the flag points with the beat and your team will always be in sync! Hope this helps :)

I free style a lot to a whole bunch of different songs and find which one I feel the music the most with and go with it. I also watch a bunch of other videos of guard and teach myself new tricks and add those!

I’m a dancer not in guard but it has a similar concept. You should listen to the music and kinda move around to the rhythm for a while so you get in the groove. Then there’s no real rules to the actual choreography, just experiment with different stuff

@@priv16 my advice would be to try lots of things for a section of music until you find something that seems to fit well. Try to fit the type/feel of song in both presentation and choreo. If you can, spin in multiple planes and have dramatic speed changes. Good luck!

Julia Binder my mom actually made my chain flag! All it is is a normal swing flag with a chain strung through it and sewed at the top and bottom. And then at the end where you hold it, there is a keychain ring! Super easy to make!

So I actually hold on to the pole going into it obviously, then once it’s on the ground I open my hands really fast so I still cartwheel on the pole but my fingers aren’t under it getting smashed then as I come up I re grab the pole

Hannah Stoner omg!!! I have never seen a flag soloist with so much lower body movement; especially from a high schooler! And the second turn with a toss. Uuuuuh! I def have to try it (w/o breaking anything lol).

Elizabeth Nixon its more difficult if you have no weights in your flag 😅 nothing to support that momentum. It takes a lot of self control to not toss too much that it will effect the spin and height. Crazyyy
