Although he lets some notes disappear from his bow I have to say he really enjoys this flirting with the violin and he feels very comfortable holding it and above all this whole thing from memory in a live performance ! That is a genuine virtuoso. As for the Chaconne I do not see the relationship between the rest of the partita , where Bach made an exception not to end it with the Gigue. I assume he wrote this masterpiece and did not know what to to with it so he stuck it to the partita since the tonalities fit. History says he wrote it for his dead wife but I do not see any passage there that inspires death.

He is great but he is not the only one. Years ago we listened to Heifetz, Milstein, Grumiaux, Elman, and all the giants. Today those energetic young people top the giants. I ve never seen a name twice and they would play the whole partita with the Chaconne from memory just like they drink a glass of water, nothing scares them and rarely need the masterclasses from the giants that are also stunned by the ability of the young. I wonter what a giant would find to say to improve a super perfonmance like this. I wish Bach was here.

Wonderful ! Emmanuel's Chaconne is superior to that of Heifetz, imo, who sounds like he phones it in. Now there's a compliment (and a sincere one.)

Over the years I've listened to this work in many, many guises, interpretations, transpositions, and arrangements for the widest variety of instruments and ensembles. You have convinced me that the only genuinely viable performance is on solo violin as it was intended and by a performer of your stature. Thanks.

Lack of coloring in the variation and the tempo is not consistent in the final movement. This is Bach you just do not play as you wish.
